CNA 03 Assists to Ambulate Using a Transfer Belt

Assist to ambulate using a transfer belt.

Good morning Mrs. Jones my name is

Michelle. I'm gonna be your nursing

assistant this morning. I'm here to take

you for a little walk, but before I do

that I need to wash my hands, and check

your ID band, as well make sure I've got

the right gal yep

Marilyn Jones. All right one thing I want

to make sure is that the bed is locked.

Yes it is locked very good and next I

want to put your shoes on. I'm going to

use a barrier this will keep your bed

clean once I put those shoes on.

Okay I'm gonna raise the head of your

bed up a little bit. I might help you sit

up and get out of bed a little easier.

How's that okay? Make sure you scoot to

the edge, you want your feet planted

directly on the floor there very good.

Next, I'm going to apply the transfer

belt. This belt is of for your safety

and my safety so that we don't get

injured. Now you notice that I am

squatting down and I'm keeping my back

straight for good body mechanics. I want

to get this belt a little snug not too

snug though. I want to make sure that I

can put my fingers underneath here so

that when I ambulate I've got a good

grasp on that belt.

Okay next Marylin we're going to stand, I

would like you to put your hands on my

shoulders and on the count of

three we're gonna stand together alright.

One, two, and three. Do you feel dizzy? Very

good, alright now we're ready for our

little walk alright let's go as you

notice I'm walking slightly to the side

and behind Marilyn as well as grasping

the transfer belt with my hand

underneath.

Alright Marilyn let's turn back around

and we're gonna go back to your room.

Alright Marilyn we're here at your bed

have you turn around now before you sit

down. I'm gonna make sure the bed is in

low position hold on alright good. Now do

you feel the bed behind your

knees? There good go ahead and sit down

for me, before you go lay down I need to

remove this belt.

Just put it in my pocket all right

here is your call light. Just let me know

if you need anything and your bed is

down, alright put this in the dirty linens.

I will wash my hands and now I'm

finished.
