What Is Missing In The American Gospel... Movie? By Torben Søndergaard
-
0:00 - 0:02Hello everyone out there.
My name is Torben Sondergaard. -
0:02 - 0:05I am the founder of The Last Reformation.
-
0:05 - 0:10I want to do a video here where I'll talk
about an article I wrote on our web site -
0:10 - 0:13TheLastReformation.com
some days ago. -
0:13 - 0:18The name of the article is: "What is
Missing in the American Gospel Movie?" -
0:21 - 0:24You can find that on our web site
TheLastReformation.com. -
0:24 - 0:28You can also see it on my Facebook wall,
but I know there's many people of you -
0:28 - 0:33out there on YouTube who are following
and I want you to also hear about this. -
0:33 - 0:37So I've decided to do a video here
where I'll actually read the article -
0:37 - 0:42for you or with you, and then I will
comment some of the things I'm writing -
0:42 - 0:45and why I say what I'm saying.
-
0:45 - 0:48First, why did I do an article like this?
-
0:48 - 0:53Last year, when the movie came out
"American Gospel: Christ Alone", -
0:53 - 0:57when that came out we saw it on our
Bible school in Denmark. -
0:57 - 0:59We had a training school at that time
in Denmark. -
0:59 - 1:05And we saw it with the staff and students
and there were many, many different reactions. -
1:05 - 1:10Some people loved it, or, I would say,
everyone loved some of it -
1:10 - 1:14and thought that there was really
good the way they said it, -
1:14 - 1:19but there were also lot of things
in the movie that really concerned us. -
1:19 - 1:24And especially for younger believers,
those who are very new in the faith -
1:24 - 1:28and start to walk with God and experience
the life with the Holy Spirit, -
1:28 - 1:33those who start to step out in healing
the sick and preaching the gospel, -
1:33 - 1:37they got a little confused from the video
because there was something in the video -
1:37 - 1:41that was good, but there was also something
that was really missing. -
1:41 - 1:47And also the way they look at things.
It almost looks like there are two camps -
1:47 - 1:53and it looks like everything that has to do
with what they're doing out there is wrong -
1:53 - 1:56and everything that there is on this camp
is right. -
1:56 - 2:02But, I don't see it like two camps.
I don't affiliate myself and the movement -
2:02 - 2:08with either of those camps. We see ourselves,
somehow, in the middle of all of this. -
2:08 - 2:13But I want to read the article for you and
then I want to comment it -
2:13 - 2:19while I'm reading it. So, what is missing
in the American gospel movie? -
2:19 - 2:25And we start here. Last year, the movie
American Gospel: Christ Alone came out, -
2:25 - 2:30and has since gone viral, bringing forth
many discussions, on Facebook, etc. -
2:30 - 2:34I would like to share something very
important about the movie and -
2:34 - 2:40about the discussions out there.
I share this with fear and trembling, -
2:40 - 2:46knowing this most likely will give me
enemies on both sides of the camp. -
2:46 - 2:53But I truly love God and I believe this
will help many people out there. -
2:53 - 3:00And I want to say that it is really not to
bring forth a fight. -
3:00 - 3:05I don't like fights, I don't like conflicts.
I think none of us like it, but we love God. -
3:05 - 3:10We love the Word of God.
And we are obligated to share -
3:10 - 3:15what God have given us. I have been
going with this for a year. -
3:15 - 3:19I've been praying, I've been fasting
and thinking: When is it time for me -
3:19 - 3:24to give out a video like this?
When is time to write a text like this? -
3:24 - 3:28So, it's not just something I did very
fast. It's something I've really been -
3:28 - 3:34considering and praying about
and now I feel it's time to do it. -
3:34 - 3:39But I'm not here to just make fight.
I'm here to: Let's go back to the Word of God, -
3:39 - 3:44let's try to get off some of those
religious glasses we have on. -
3:44 - 3:50I often talk about the religious glasses
on our online "Pioneer School" -
3:50 - 3:55there's for free on YouTube,
because we often read people -
3:55 - 4:00through glasses so we don't see
the full picture of the gospel, -
4:00 - 4:05we don't see the full picture from the
beginning, with the fall of mankind -
4:05 - 4:08in the Garden, to the Revelation.
-
4:12 - 4:16My heart is not to just make discussion.
-
4:16 - 4:20My heart is: Let's take off those glasses
and let's go and see what the Word -
4:20 - 4:25is truly saying.
So, first a little about the movie. -
4:25 - 4:31In the movie we see interviews and clips
with many well-known preachers, -
4:31 - 4:38such as John Piper, Costi Hinn, Paul Washer,
John MacArthur, Phil Johnson and more, -
4:38 - 4:44talking about the gospel and criticizing
some well-known prosperity preachers -
4:44 - 4:49like Benny Hinn, Joel Osteen, T.D. Jakes,
Creflo Dollar, Kenneth Copeland and more. -
4:49 - 4:55The main cast in the movie though,
are a few less-known people, sharing -
4:55 - 5:00how they left the prosperity movement
and its preachers, realizing -
5:00 - 5:03they were not preaching the true Gospel.
-
5:03 - 5:09The whole movie is a big attack on what
is known as the “prosperity gospel”, -
5:09 - 5:15or the “name it and claim it gospel”,
and its preachers, who are known -
5:15 - 5:20for their focus on money, love message,
and weird theology and practices. -
5:20 - 5:28The movie is at the same time a big promotion
for the more hyper-conservative, Calvinistic, -
5:28 - 5:34intellectually-oriented church, and its
preachers, as those who hold -
5:34 - 5:37the correct understanding of the gospel.
-
5:37 - 5:44The movie American Gospel: Christ Alone
makes it look like there are only -
5:44 - 5:51these two camps, and that you have
to choose between only these two -
5:51 - 5:58(on one side, those who preach total heresies,
having no idea what the gospel of Christ -
5:58 - 6:04is truly about, and on the other side,
those who supposedly know the gospel, -
6:04 - 6:09have the truth and are building on Christ
and Christ alone). -
6:10 - 6:14This is the beginning of the article.
The reason I wrote this is because -
6:14 - 6:18that is the idea you get in the movie,
when you see it. -
6:18 - 6:22You almost get that idea that there are
on one side those people who really -
6:22 - 6:27understand the gospel and Christ,
and it's all about Christ and Christ alone. -
6:27 - 6:30And then we have those weird things
on the other side. -
6:31 - 6:35And it's not like that.
It's not those two camps. -
6:35 - 6:38And I have been there many, many
years ago. -
6:38 - 6:41I am going to tell it in more details
later, but many, many years ago, -
6:41 - 6:4815 years ago, I actually left one camp
and started in the other camp. -
6:48 - 6:53And I was frustrated years ago, thinking
like: It's almost like I need to choose -
6:53 - 6:59between the Spirit, where there are
spiritual things -
6:59 - 7:03and the Word, where they really build
on the Word. But you don't need to choose. -
7:03 - 7:08And this is what I want to bring out with
this article that you don't need to choose. -
7:08 - 7:10Yeah, we need to build on the Word,
the Word of God. -
7:10 - 7:18We need the Spirit and the truth. And I see
deception both places, in both camps. -
7:18 - 7:23But I will continue now.
I can relate to the movie. But… -
7:23 - 7:29When I saw the movie I could really relate
with many of the things they were pointing out -
7:29 - 7:35as big problems, and also with the direct
heresies in the “prosperity gospel”, -
7:35 - 7:41a movement I myself left over 15 years
ago, for some of the same reasons -
7:41 - 7:47you see in this movie. But even while I agree
with many of the things they are saying, -
7:47 - 7:53I still think the movie is not fair
with the way they portray it. -
7:53 - 8:02They often take things out of context,
and even use video clips that are 10-15 years old. -
8:02 - 8:10I’m sure we have all done or said things
10-15 years ago that we now regret, -
8:10 - 8:18things we would not do or say today.
I know I have, and I am thankful that with God, -
8:18 - 8:24there is forgiveness for those things.
If only the church could learn to do the same. -
8:24 - 8:31So I think they are unfair when they use
such old clips that are not even needed. -
8:31 - 8:35In general, I would have really liked
a more honest and fair approach -
8:35 - 8:39from the people behind the movie.
They also give the idea that some -
8:39 - 8:46of the prosperity preachers never preach
about sin, repentance and the cross, -
8:46 - 8:51but that is simply not true.
But I do fully agree that it is a big concern -
8:51 - 8:58that there are preachers out there living
a luxurious lifestyle that is far from biblical, -
8:58 - 9:02even the way they talk about money,
and manipulate people to give. -
9:02 - 9:08So, I would just say, when I saw the movie...
I really think it's not fair to use clip -
9:08 - 9:16that is 10, 15 years old. I often say I was
happy there was no YouTube out there -
9:16 - 9:2124, 25 years ago, when I came to faith.
Because when I came to faith -
9:21 - 9:26I came to faith in what I call
"the prosperity movement" -
9:26 - 9:28or came to faith in what is called
"the faith movement". -
9:28 - 9:30We called it "the faith movement"
at that time. -
9:30 - 9:33I came to faith there.
And I heard the gospel. -
9:33 - 9:40I heard the gospel of Jesus. I repented.
I got born again there. I met God there. -
9:40 - 9:45But after some years I left it because
I saw something was wrong -
9:45 - 9:49and I'm going to say in more details
later. But I did things. -
9:49 - 9:52And I said things at that time
I have regret. -
9:52 - 9:56And I've said things and done things
just years ago that I have regret. -
9:56 - 9:59Why? Because we are learning.
We are all learning. -
9:59 - 10:03And I think it's the same for everyone
of us, that everyone of us have said -
10:03 - 10:08and done things years ago
we regret today. -
10:08 - 10:12And therefore I don't think it's fair
to use clips that are so old. -
10:14 - 10:20It's just my take on it and it makes
the movie a little sad, -
10:20 - 10:27it makes a little not honest, but, again,
I saw something that is not good -
10:27 - 10:32with the prosperity movement.
I see some of the things I've seen on TV -
10:32 - 10:35where people are gathering money
and how they are manipulating -
10:35 - 10:40and talk about giving and if you give
this amount you will get healed -
10:40 - 10:44or if you give this God will bless you
and pay off your mortgage and all of that. -
10:44 - 10:48I believe in giving, but I've seen
a lot of manipulation -
10:48 - 10:54and I've seen a lot of things that
are really, really not healthy in it. -
10:54 - 10:59And I have a quote in my book
"The Last Reformation". -
10:59 - 11:06In my book I quote that Christianity
started in Israel as a body, a living body -
11:06 - 11:10of believers. It came to Greece
and became a philosophy. -
11:10 - 11:15It came to Rome and became
an institution. -
11:15 - 11:18It came to Europe and became a culture.
-
11:18 - 11:22And it came to America and
became an enterprise. -
11:22 - 11:29So, it started as a body, but it became
a philosophy for some people. -
11:29 - 11:32It became a culture for other.
I grew up in Europe and I grew up -
11:32 - 11:39in culture - Christianity. But it came to
America and became an enterprise, a business. -
11:39 - 11:44But if you make a business out of a body,
is that not the prostitution? -
11:44 - 11:49And this is what have happened
with the gospel in many places in America, -
11:49 - 11:52that we have prostituted, not only America,
but actually all over the world today, -
11:52 - 11:56that we have prostituted the body of Christ.
-
11:56 - 12:00And I see that take on it,
but at the same time, -
12:00 - 12:04you have to understand that people
behind the movie they take money -
12:04 - 12:09for the movie, to see the full movie.
Maybe there is a better way to do it. -
12:09 - 12:14I'm just saying - our movies are for free.
You can go on tlrmovie.com -
12:14 - 12:18and you can see our movies for free.
And I believe it should be for free. -
12:18 - 12:24Our events are for free. Our books
have been out there as e-books for free. -
12:24 - 12:27But that is a personal thing how you
decide to do it. -
12:29 - 12:33It's always to find that balance in it,
because I know it costs money -
12:33 - 12:37to do a movie. I know it costs things
and I don't say that it's not okay -
12:37 - 12:41for those people behind the movie
to take money for the full movie, -
12:41 - 12:46but I'm just saying we have to be
careful not just shoot everyone else -
12:46 - 12:51and then some of the things we do
ourselves is also wrong. -
12:51 - 12:56Okay, I'll leave that for now.
That was for free. So I continue: -
12:56 - 13:00What is missing in the American Gospel:
Christ Alone movie? -
13:00 - 13:05And I will come to - why I really want to
write this article. -
13:06 - 13:11But the reason I write this article is
because of a big concern I see in this movie, -
13:11 - 13:15in BOTH camps, and all over America
and the world. -
13:15 - 13:21I will now continue and answer the big
question stated in the title, -
13:21 - 13:24“What is missing in the American Gospel:
Christ Alone movie”? -
13:24 - 13:32Yes, the thing that is missing is for me
a far bigger concern than everything else. -
13:32 - 13:37The thing that is missing in this movie,
is the whole Gospel, -
13:37 - 13:43and the life of Christ the early church
was preaching and living. -
13:43 - 13:49And this is the thing. What is missing
in the movie is the whole gospel, -
13:49 - 13:58the whole gospel and the life of Christ
the early church was preaching and living. -
14:00 - 14:03And if you want to get a little idea
what I mean with this, -
14:03 - 14:07I really recommend you to see the movie
"The Last Reformation - The Beginning" -
14:07 - 14:12and "The Last Reformation - The Life".
Because there we wanted to talk about -
14:12 - 14:15how be led by the Holy Spirit, hear the
voice of God, healing the sick, -
14:15 - 14:19casting out demons, leading people
to Christ, with baptism right away, -
14:19 - 14:23with baptism with the Holy Spirit
and speaking in tongues. -
14:23 - 14:30All of this, what I read in the early
church - I don't see there. -
14:30 - 14:35I don't see healing. The way they talk
about the healing in the movie is only like -
14:35 - 14:42a critical thing. At one time in the movie
they had praying for the legs. -
14:42 - 14:47What they say that he pulled out the shoe.
And that is only the example they have -
14:47 - 14:53like all of that is totally fake. I have seen
so many people, I know many of you -
14:53 - 14:56who see this video who prayed for people
and see people got healed. -
14:56 - 15:03And it's not about the leg thing. It's really
about what is happening in the body. -
15:03 - 15:09One of the first times I prayed for somebody
it was actually leg that grew out. -
15:10 - 15:15I saw somebody get healed. And then I met
a guy who had a problem in the hip. -
15:15 - 15:19And his hip was not straight and his
leg was not straight. -
15:19 - 15:24And he said he have been at the hospital
and he have even checked at the hospital. -
15:24 - 15:27So, it was verified by doctors that
he had an issue. -
15:27 - 15:34I put him on a bench and I took his legs up.
He told me that his legs were 2-3 cm wrong. -
15:34 - 15:39And I took them up. It was only like 1-2 mm,
so I thought there was something wrong. -
15:39 - 15:42Maybe I do it in a wrong way. Maybe
I hold the shoes wrong, -
15:42 - 15:47so I pushed both feet in.
But there was still 1-2 mm. -
15:47 - 15:53So I thought: okay, I'll just pray.
So I prayed and his legs started to go out. -
15:53 - 15:56And I was so happy because now
it was even. -
15:56 - 16:01But then his leg continued growing,
continued growing, continued growing, -
16:01 - 16:05continued growing, and suddenly
they were 2-3 cm wrong. -
16:05 - 16:09And I was like: Uh-oh!
What happened there? -
16:09 - 16:13And I was so nervous I thought
I messed his life, I've done something -
16:13 - 16:17completely wrong, so I said...
I put his shoes down and I was ready -
16:17 - 16:21to run away because I was so nervous
at that time because I thought: -
16:21 - 16:25What was happening there?
But that guy stood up, he walked around, -
16:25 - 16:29he felt his back and he said:
Thank you. Thank you. -
16:29 - 16:34All the pain in the back was gone
and he was straightened out -
16:34 - 16:37in the way he walked.
But not completely straight -
16:37 - 16:41because he was walking around
saying: Wow! And he took off one shoe -
16:41 - 16:45and he took two centimeters out
of one shoe. -
16:45 - 16:52And he put it on again and walked straight
and he threw this out in the garbage. -
16:52 - 16:57So, this man have been to the doctor
and he have been told that his hip -
16:57 - 17:03was not straight. And you can measure
that in the legs, when they sit on a bench, -
17:03 - 17:07that hips were not even and the legs
were not even. -
17:07 - 17:10And he, to help with that issue,
have been at the hospital -
17:10 - 17:17and he have got something to put in the
shoe, for those 2-3 cm he's missing. -
17:17 - 17:20And when he walked with that
he now walked straight. -
17:20 - 17:25I did not know about that issue.
So when I prayed I did not know. -
17:25 - 17:28But God healed him and his leg
grew out, grew out, grew out -
17:28 - 17:34and I thought I messed his life
because suddenly they were 2 cm wrong. -
17:35 - 17:39But he took off that thing from the shoe
and he was completely healed. -
17:39 - 17:43I've seen this.
I've seen people get healed. -
17:43 - 17:49But in the movie you only see one thing
and it's put like everything is fake, -
17:49 - 17:54when it comes to that. Maybe something
is fake, I cannot say what other people do, -
17:54 - 17:59but I know what I've seen and I know
this is real and I have seen it real. -
17:59 - 18:02And it's not about the legs growing out.
It's about what happened in the hips. -
18:02 - 18:05Or what happened in the legs
when they got healed. -
18:05 - 18:09It's abut how the pain disappeared.
So, I have seen the real stuff. -
18:09 - 18:13And it's so sad in the movie that
they don't do that. -
18:13 - 18:18The real stuff is missing.
It mostly criticizes those people -
18:18 - 18:23who have misbused some of the
real stuff. But I will continue now. -
18:23 - 18:28I know what I am writing here will provoke
and challenge many of you out there, -
18:28 - 18:33but before you also attack me,
as if this is heresy, -
18:33 - 18:39take your Bible and see for yourself if
what I am sharing here is not the truth. -
18:39 - 18:42Yes, all too often we blindly follow our
leaders, preachers, or the church -
18:42 - 18:49denomination we are a part of.
We think those preachers know better, -
18:49 - 18:54and we don’t see what is missing. We don’t
take the time to see if they are preaching -
18:54 - 19:00the same as those in the Bible did,
and if they are living the life -
19:00 - 19:07the early disciples were. Yes, it is one thing
to stand behind a pulpit and preach. -
19:07 - 19:11It is something else to live it out.
-
19:11 - 19:18Today, I want to add that Paul said:
I did not come with convincing words -
19:19 - 19:23but I came with power,
power of the Holy Spirit. -
19:23 - 19:27So, their faith should not be built
on words but on power, -
19:27 - 19:30power of the Holy Spirit.
We needs words. Words are important. -
19:30 - 19:34But we also need power.
We need to come to a place -
19:34 - 19:41where... People in their own strength
can preach. Some people are just gifted. -
19:41 - 19:46They are gifted when it comes to preaching.
And they are good at preaching. -
19:46 - 19:50They are good at speaking.
But when it comes to healing the sick, -
19:50 - 19:54when it comes to casting out demons,
when it comes to really hear the voice of God -
19:54 - 19:59and be led by the Holy Spirit, prophesy
and all of those... we are so lost. -
19:59 - 20:03We cannot do anything.
We are so dependent on God. -
20:03 - 20:09And therefore, I think it's so important
that we come and understand -
20:09 - 20:14that we need the power of God.
We need to walk in the supernatural. -
20:14 - 20:19Why? Because this is the place where we
really, really, really, really, really learn -
20:19 - 20:25dependentness on God, learn
to listen, learn to fast, learn to pray. -
20:25 - 20:32Because when we stand there we cannot
do anything in our strength. -
20:32 - 20:36And it is one thing to stand
behind the pulpet. -
20:36 - 20:42It's one thing to stand and preach about
the life. It's something else to live it. -
20:42 - 20:44You could stand and preach how
we should live in holiness, -
20:44 - 20:50but if people are struggling with sin
themselves and are not free, -
20:50 - 20:53what does it matter to stand to preach
about holiness? -
20:53 - 20:56It's one thing to preach about the family
and the importance of the family -
20:56 - 21:01and that our kids should grow up
in faith, but if all our kids are rebellious -
21:01 - 21:04and don't want God, what does it matter?
-
21:04 - 21:09It's one thing to preach that Jesus Christ
is the same yesterday, today and forever -
21:09 - 21:11and the Holy Spirit is the same, and Jesus
walked around doing miracles, -
21:11 - 21:15healing the sick, casting out demons,
but if we don't see any people get healed, -
21:15 - 21:18demons been cast out,
what does it matter? -
21:18 - 21:22We are not called just to preach about.
We are called to live it out. -
21:22 - 21:26We are called to live the life.
But I'll continue. -
21:27 - 21:33If you look at the movie American Gospel:
Christ Alone, you see, as in so many -
21:33 - 21:39other places today, that the gospel they
are preaching is NOT the whole gospel -
21:39 - 21:44as they were preaching in the early church.
And the life they are living, in this movie, -
21:44 - 21:51is also NOT the same as we read in
the Bible. The life of the early disciples -
21:51 - 21:56was a life led by the Holy Spirit –
a life where they saw healings, -
21:56 - 22:02casting out demons and speaking in tongues.
No matter how you turn and twist the Bible, -
22:02 - 22:06these things should still also be for today.
-
22:06 - 22:11And I want to add here. When I say this
it's not just as a critique, -
22:11 - 22:18to be critical, to point finger and so on.
You who know me - you know my testimony. -
22:18 - 22:26I gave my life to Christ in 1995.
When I came to year 2000 I've been a Christian -
22:26 - 22:31for around six years, at that time,
a little more than five years. -
22:31 - 22:35People looked at me in the church like
I was radical. I've already helped -
22:35 - 22:37with the church planting and we have done
many things, -
22:37 - 22:41but then I had a time where I really
studied the early church, -
22:41 - 22:46how they were living, and I saw something
was missing in my life. -
22:46 - 22:53Here I was, and I was radical in the eyes
of the church, but I've never healed the sick, -
22:53 - 22:57I've never cast out a demon, I've never
led people to Christ, baptize in water -
22:57 - 23:00and the Holy Spirit, like we read,
spoke in tongues. -
23:00 - 23:04I've never experienced what I read here,
here in the Bible. -
23:04 - 23:08Here, in the Bible, among the early
believers. -
23:08 - 23:15My life did not look like what I read there.
-
23:15 - 23:19So, I came to a point in my life -
there was something wrong some place. -
23:20 - 23:25It could be in the Bible
or it could be my life. -
23:25 - 23:28Some people go in and say: It would be
in the Bible, so we say that -
23:28 - 23:32gifts are not for today and we twist
and misbuse the Bible to say that: -
23:32 - 23:37Oh, the gifts are not for today.
There are no apostles like in that time, -
23:37 - 23:40and therefore, and we conclude out
of this... I believe there are no apostles -
23:40 - 23:47like in that time, like the Twelve.
But, to conclude out of that -
23:47 - 23:52that there is no gifting and God don't do
miracles today - that is really -
23:52 - 23:56twisting of the Word of God.
And many people do that. -
23:56 - 23:59Because they don't see it in their own
life, they twist the Bible -
23:59 - 24:06to suit their life. What I did at that
time - I tried to change my life. -
24:06 - 24:10I started a 40 days fast, where I was
praying and fasting for 40 days - -
24:10 - 24:14God, I want to see it. And God
started slowly to do it in my life -
24:14 - 24:19and now my life, many years later,
looks so much more like the Bible -
24:19 - 24:22and the Book of Acts,
than it did at that time. -
24:22 - 24:25And you can see our movie
"The Last Reformation - The Life" -
24:25 - 24:30where we talk about the Book of Acts.
So, I just want to say - it's not just to -
24:30 - 24:36point finger. It's just to say that I've
been there and that should be our approach -
24:36 - 24:41to the Bible. If it doesn't look like
our life - we change our life. -
24:41 - 24:45We don't change the Bible.
But I'll continue. -
24:45 - 24:51If we look at the gospel, then the movie
does give a very good and clear understanding -
24:51 - 24:57of our state as sinners – that we all have
sinned and come short of the glory of God, -
24:57 - 25:03and that we can be justified freely
by His grace through the redemption -
25:03 - 25:08that is in Christ Jesus (Romans 3:23-24).
That it is by faith in Jesus, and not by works -
25:08 - 25:15that we are saved (Ephesians 2:8-9).
It also gives a beautiful picture of how Jesus -
25:15 - 25:21truly is our Passover Lamb, that He died
for our sins according to the Scriptures, -
25:21 - 25:27was buried, rose again on the third day
(1 Corinthians 15:3-4), -
25:27 - 25:34and that He is the only One who can
take our sins away. -
25:34 - 25:38When it comes to this - beautiful movie,
beautifully made, -
25:38 - 25:44the way to see that we have all sinned.
It's only in Jesus Christ. -
25:44 - 25:49And the focus on 1 Corinthians 15,
that the Scripture says that He was buried -
25:49 - 25:53and rose up again, died on the cross and
was buried, according to the Scripture, -
25:53 - 25:56and rose up again.
I love that part. -
25:56 - 26:02But you have to understand that
Corinthians, and Paul is writing that... -
26:02 - 26:06They often say - This is the gospel:
Jesus died, He got buried and rose up again. -
26:06 - 26:13This is the gospel, but I will say:
Remember, in the gospels, -
26:13 - 26:19Jesus was preaching, in the beginning
of Mark: Repent for the Kingdom of God -
26:19 - 26:26is near. And He sent His disciples out to
preach the gospel. The gospel. -
26:26 - 26:31None of them, of the disciples at that time
was preaching how Jesus died, -
26:31 - 26:35got buried and rose up again,
because they did not know it. -
26:35 - 26:39Even after Jesus rose up again.
They still did not understand it. -
26:42 - 26:45What were they preaching
at that time? -
26:45 - 26:49They were not preaching Jesus died on
the cross, was buried and rose up again. -
26:49 - 26:53That was not what they were preaching
in the gospel because it haven't happened -
26:53 - 26:58and no one knew... Jesus knew, but
no one else knew that it would happen. -
26:58 - 27:05So, it was not what they were preaching.
They were preaching the gospel of the Kingdom, -
27:05 - 27:09that we have a King, and that is Jesus Christ.
And the Kingdom is near. -
27:09 - 27:12Later you see - the Kingdom is here.
-
27:14 - 27:20So, we need to preach, the Cross is the
center of that. I agree. -
27:20 - 27:24But we need to preach the Kingdom.
We need to preach everything. -
27:24 - 27:30We need to preach Jesus died for our sins.
We need to preach He was buried. -
27:30 - 27:34We need to preach He rose up again.
But we also need to preach -
27:34 - 27:38how He ascended to Heaven.
We also need to preach how He sent -
27:38 - 27:45His Holy Spirit down here. We also need
to preach Acts 2:38, that we need to repent, -
27:45 - 27:48get baptized for the forgiveness of
our sins and receive the Holy Spirit. -
27:48 - 27:53We need to preach the whole Kingdom.
And that is the gospel. -
27:53 - 28:00To say: No, no, we only preach this part
and nothing else. I don't agree with that. -
28:00 - 28:06I don't agree that Bible very clear states:
This is the gospel and this is not. -
28:07 - 28:15And if, again, IF, if the gospel only was
that Jesus died, He got buried and -
28:15 - 28:21rose up again... and not the part with
the Holy Spirit and all of that -
28:21 - 28:28and what happened on Pentecost. Then,
why don't we see that in the Book of Acts? -
28:29 - 28:33Why don't we see that in the gospels?
-
28:34 - 28:37Because the gospel is
a gospel of the Kingdom, -
28:37 - 28:42is a gospel of our King Jesus Christ,
how He came to save the world -
28:42 - 28:44and the next time He is going to come
back to judge the world -
28:44 - 28:49and we need to preach it all. And if you
want to know a little what the gospel is -
28:49 - 28:53I recommend you to see a video I have,
I'll put a link in here, -
28:53 - 28:57how you meet God. Because there
I share the gospel. -
28:57 - 29:01And I start with Adam and Eve,
I start with the tree of life -
29:01 - 29:04and how sin came in and we are
thrown out of the Garden -
29:04 - 29:08so we will not be able to eat of the tree
of life and live forever because of our sin. -
29:08 - 29:14I talk about sin and the ark of Noah and
talk about sin in people -
29:14 - 29:18and then talk about Jesus,
how He came as new Adam -
29:18 - 29:22and how He died on the cross, got buried
and rose up again, ascended to Heaven -
29:22 - 29:27and sent His Holy Spirit down here
so now we may be born again through Him. -
29:27 - 29:31And then I talk about what we need to do
to be born again. -
29:31 - 29:35And that is not works.
That is not works. -
29:35 - 29:38And there are people who say:
baptism is works. It's not works. -
29:38 - 29:42Baptism can never be works, because Paul
wrote to people who were already baptized. -
29:42 - 29:49To say that baptism is works is as saying
that repentance is works. -
29:49 - 29:52No, when we talk about works,
it's works by the law. -
29:52 - 29:57And we are not justified by works of the law.
We are justified through Jesus Christ. -
29:59 - 30:04Faith in Him. And we need to be born
again out of water and Spirit, -
30:04 - 30:07as Jesus is saying in John 3.
Much more about that later, -
30:07 - 30:10but I just want to say, and I preach
the gospel there and then -
30:10 - 30:15one day Jesus is going to come down
and judge the world. -
30:15 - 30:19And we are going to get a new heaven
and a new earth, and there, -
30:19 - 30:24in the middle of the garden, those
who have washed their garments clean -
30:24 - 30:28by the blood of the Lamb will be
able to take out and eat of the tree of life -
30:28 - 30:32and live forever. I believe all of that
with Adam and Eve, -
30:32 - 30:35and the tree of life, and Jesus,
the new Adam, -
30:35 - 30:40and the Holy Spirit came down here,
came into this body, into this temple. -
30:41 - 30:44I believe that is the gospel.
The gospel is all of it. -
30:44 - 30:49The gospel is not "only"...
I know this the center of the gospel, -
30:49 - 30:53but the gospel is not only that.
The gospel is everything. -
30:53 - 30:58And I can prove that again. They were
preaching the gospel before the cross, -
30:58 - 31:01before anyone knew about the cross,
and look at the Book of Acts, -
31:01 - 31:04what they were preaching there.
Okay, I need to continue now. -
31:08 - 31:12I want to say this. Sorry.
It's very, very beautiful what they did -
31:12 - 31:16when they talked about sin,
up to the Cross. And then I continue. -
31:16 - 31:23But then it sadly goes wrong, as it does
in so many other places today. -
31:23 - 31:29Because when it comes to how we receive
this free gift, the movie goes wrong. -
31:29 - 31:34Yes, they talk about the cross of Jesus
and the gospel. -
31:35 - 31:41But they totally forget how Jesus,
after the cross, rose again, ascended -
31:41 - 31:46into Heaven, and has now sent
His Holy Spirit down to His people. -
31:46 - 31:51They forget the life of the Holy Spirit
we read about in the book of Acts. -
31:51 - 31:58They seem to be stuck in the mindset
that people only need to “repent and believe”, -
31:58 - 32:02as stated in the four gospels,
and they forget what happened -
32:02 - 32:09when the Holy Spirit came down here.
Yes, that life of the Holy Spirit is also -
32:09 - 32:14missing. They don’t understand that
the four gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John -
32:14 - 32:22don’t give the whole picture.
These four gospels all took place -
32:22 - 32:31before the cross, and no one there
got born-again the way we see happening -
32:31 - 32:34after the cross, and like we should
also see today. -
32:35 - 32:40I want to say that it's so clear, we need to
understand where the New Covenant -
32:40 - 32:45really started. We need to rightly divide
the Word of God. -
32:45 - 32:48And see how they were preaching
after the cross. -
32:48 - 32:51And I want to say: the gospels... I'm not...
The gospels are beautiful. -
32:51 - 32:55I read the gospels every day.
This is Jesus' words. -
32:55 - 32:57He talked about being a disciple.
He talked about taking up the cross. -
32:57 - 33:00He talked about denying ourselves.
He talked about following Him, -
33:00 - 33:04that attitude. Everything Jesus is saying
is so beautiful and we believe in Jesus. -
33:04 - 33:07We believe in His words and therefore
we obey His words. -
33:07 - 33:10I don't say we should throw away
the gospels. People think -
33:10 - 33:14I'm only for the Book of Acts and I don't
believe in the gospels. That is a lie. -
33:14 - 33:18Everyone who goes in and see our
online "Pioneer School" see that -
33:18 - 33:24I actually only have two or three lessons
out of 28 about the Book of Acts. -
33:24 - 33:30I have a whole lesson about the Hebrews
where I went to Hebrews -
33:30 - 33:33from one end to another.
I talk a lot about the letters. -
33:33 - 33:38I talk a lot about the gospels.
So, don't quote me that I'm only -
33:38 - 33:43for the Book of Acts. I am not.
But we need to understand -
33:45 - 33:50the New Covenant, where it started,
and we need to see -
33:50 - 33:55when the Holy Spirit came down
and see how they were preaching there. -
33:55 - 33:59But I'll continue.
The truth is that the movie American Gospel: -
33:59 - 34:04Christ Alone is busy criticizing others
for a lack of the gospel, but not realizing -
34:04 - 34:10they themselves aren’t preaching or living
the whole gospel either. -
34:10 - 34:15They themselves are not preaching the true
gospel preached by the early church. -
34:15 - 34:21They themselves are not experiencing the life
with the Holy Spirit lived by the early church. -
34:21 - 34:28Yes, I know this will be hard to swallow
for many, but don’t take “my” word for it. -
34:28 - 34:33Take out your Bible and see if what I am
saying here is the truth. -
34:33 - 34:37If you take your Bible and read Matthew,
Mark, Luke and John, -
34:37 - 34:45there are many things you don’t find there.
First, you don’t find anyone baptized in water -
34:45 - 34:49in the name of Jesus, and you don’t find
anyone receiving the Holy Spirit -
34:49 - 34:55like we see in the book of Acts. Why?
Because the four gospels were all happening -
34:55 - 35:02when Jesus was walking here on earth.
The four gospels all happened before the cross -
35:02 - 35:06and therefore before the new covenant
really began. -
35:06 - 35:10In the four gospels you don’t find anyone
getting baptized in water -
35:10 - 35:16in the name of Jesus, as we see later.
Those who got baptized at that time, -
35:16 - 35:21all got baptized with John’s baptism,
and then later got rebaptized -
35:21 - 35:25in Jesus’ name. See Acts 19.
-
35:27 - 35:31It's so clear when you see it.
When you take off the religious glasses -
35:31 - 35:36and first see it, it is so, so clear.
But I know when you are used -
35:36 - 35:41to read the Bible through one glasses
and see it one way, this can seem -
35:41 - 35:44a little like: What?
But try to see the difference. -
35:44 - 35:49Try to see the difference between
how they were preaching at that time -
35:49 - 35:51and then how they were preaching
after the cross. -
35:51 - 35:57What they were preaching before the cross,
how the people reacted before the cross, -
35:57 - 36:03how they were preaching after the cross
and how the people reacted after the cross. -
36:03 - 36:08Because the reaction after the cross was
very different from the reaction before. -
36:08 - 36:11The preaching after was different
then preaching before. -
36:11 - 36:16And now we are after. So we don't have
to preach to anyone like before the cross -
36:16 - 36:21and say: Hey, you have to wait in
Jerusalem for the promise from our Father. -
36:21 - 36:26And people need to wait for Pentecost.
No, now we are after Pentecost. -
36:26 - 36:29Today is the day of salvation.
Everyone who call on the name of Jesus -
36:29 - 36:33shall be saved and the promise of the
Holy Spirit is for you and your children, -
36:33 - 36:38your grandchildren and everyone God
is going to call on, who's afar off... -
36:38 - 36:42Or, far away. Sorry, I'm translating from
my Danish to my English. -
36:42 - 36:49But I just want to say, there is a very big
difference between before and after. -
36:49 - 36:51I'll continue.
-
36:51 - 36:55You also don’t find anyone in the four gospels
getting baptized with the Holy Spirit, -
36:55 - 37:00like we see after the Cross.
The reason again, is that Jesus at that time -
37:00 - 37:06was still walking here on earth.
It was before the cross, and they did not pray -
37:06 - 37:12in Jesus’ name, or baptize in Jesus’ name,
as we see later. -
37:12 - 37:21Jesus had also not yet ascended to Heaven,
so He hadn’t sent the Holy Spirit -
37:21 - 37:26down here on earth, like we read later
in the book of Acts as well. -
37:27 - 37:34Therefore, if we only preach and live
the life we see in the four gospels, -
37:34 - 37:39as many do today, we are not preaching
a New Testament Gospel -
37:39 - 37:45and we are not living by the Holy Spirit
as the early church was doing. -
37:47 - 37:50And this is the thing. If you look at the
four gospels, -
37:50 - 37:55in Luke 9 and Luke 10, when Jesus sent
the Twelve and the Seventy out, -
37:55 - 37:59He gave them the authority. He did not
baptize them with the Holy Spirit. -
37:59 - 38:03He gave them authority to do this
for that moment. -
38:03 - 38:12But later, now, the Holy Spirit is poured out
on all flesh: moms, fathers, sons, daughters, -
38:12 - 38:17grandkids, and so on - all flesh.
And this is the beautiful thing in it. -
38:17 - 38:20And what I really love with the Bible,
the Word of God, -
38:20 - 38:24it's not only something that happened
2000 years ago. It is, it happened, -
38:24 - 38:29but is happening today. And we can
continue this life today. -
38:29 - 38:34We can write our own testimony,
our own diary should look like -
38:34 - 38:39the diary we read about in the Book of Acts.
But I'll continue. -
38:39 - 38:43So don’t make the mistake many are making,
being stuck on Good Friday, -
38:43 - 38:48only focusing on the cross, but forgetting
the resurrection, ascension and outpouring -
38:48 - 38:52of the Holy Spirit. If we only focus
on the four gospels, -
38:52 - 38:55we don’t have the whole Word of God.
-
38:55 - 39:01We are then missing the life and power
we are meant to have with the Holy Spirit. -
39:01 - 39:06After the cross, after Jesus went to Heaven,
and after He sent His Spirit down here, -
39:06 - 39:12we, for the first time, see the whole Gospel
preached, along with what we need to do -
39:12 - 39:16in order to receive this new amazing life!
-
39:16 - 39:24And I want to say here that...
You see what they've preached, -
39:24 - 39:27but you also see the response
people gave. -
39:27 - 39:32If we are preaching the same gospel as them,
we should receive the same response as them. -
39:32 - 39:36I think that is very simple. Philip,
in the Book of Acts 8, -
39:36 - 39:40you don't read what he preached to
the eunuch, directly, you don't read words, -
39:40 - 39:44he starts with Isaiah and talk about Christ
but you don't read what he was preaching. -
39:44 - 39:48But somehow you do, because you
read the eunuch's response: -
39:48 - 39:50There is water. What hinders me
from getting baptized? -
39:50 - 39:55So, his response to the preaching was:
There is water! What hinders me from -
39:55 - 39:58getting baptized? The same response
you see on Pentecost. -
39:58 - 40:03The same response you see in Acts 10, later
you see, after receiving of the Holy Spirit, -
40:03 - 40:10but in Acts 16, in Acts 19, you see that
response. Like in Acts 16, -
40:10 - 40:15Paul and the jailer, they said: Believe
in the Lord Jesus and you and your -
40:15 - 40:21household shall be saved. Correct?
But then he sat down with the household -
40:21 - 40:29and preached what Jesus was preaching,
to say more clear what the gospel was -
40:29 - 40:34and what they need to do to believe
and what it means to believe in Christ Jesus. -
40:34 - 40:39And that night, in the middle of the night,
the whole household was baptized. -
40:39 - 40:41In the middle of the night.
-
40:41 - 40:44Everyone in the Bible got baptized right
away. Where do you see that? -
40:44 - 40:46Do you see one baptism in the movie?
-
40:47 - 40:50How many churches in America and
all over the world do actually baptize -
40:50 - 40:56people right away?
But this is what we read in the Bible. -
40:56 - 41:01Baptism in water and the filling
of the Holy Spirit was -
41:01 - 41:07supposed to be part of the gospel
and response people gave. -
41:07 - 41:10But now we have divided up so we have
repentance and faith, -
41:10 - 41:13and baptism comes much later,
for some, and not for some, -
41:13 - 41:17and then the Holy Spirit is only
for a few. That is not biblical. -
41:17 - 41:22When Peter there stood up, he did not say
ONLY “repent and believe”, -
41:22 - 41:25as we see again and again
through the whole movie. -
41:25 - 41:31No, we read: “Then Peter said unto them,
‘Repent, and be baptized every one of you -
41:31 - 41:35in the name of Jesus Christ
for the remission of sins, -
41:35 - 41:38and ye shall receive
the gift of the Holy Ghost. -
41:38 - 41:42For the promise is unto you,
and to your children, -
41:42 - 41:53and to all that are afar off, even as many
as the LORD our God shall call.’” (Acts 2:38-39) -
41:53 - 41:55Why complicate it?
-
41:55 - 42:00Why not just preach that?
Why not just preach that? -
42:00 - 42:05Then people say: Yeah, but they don't
preach that every place in the Book of Acts. -
42:06 - 42:09The Book of Acts is a historical book.
It's not a theology book. -
42:09 - 42:13It's a historical book.
Sometimes we just read: They came to faith. -
42:13 - 42:17Sometimes we read: The numbers grew
to 2000, or 5000. Sorry. -
42:17 - 42:20Sometimes we read they repented and
get baptized. -
42:20 - 42:22Sometimes we read that they received
the Holy Spirit. -
42:22 - 42:27Sometimes we read less details.
Sometimes we read more details. -
42:27 - 42:32Just because it's not written every place
that they got baptized in water -
42:32 - 42:36doesn't mean that it didn't happen.
Of course it happened. -
42:36 - 42:40But the author, Luke, did not write it
every time what they did. -
42:40 - 42:44Sometimes he focused on 3000 get
baptized. -
42:44 - 42:47He didn't focused on the receiving of
the Holy Spirit, but of course -
42:47 - 42:513000 received the Holy Spirit. Because
Peter was talking about the Holy Spirit. -
42:51 - 42:55He said: If you repent and be baptized
you shall receive the Holy Spirit. -
42:55 - 42:58But you don't read they received
the Holy Spirit. -
42:58 - 43:02That doesn't mean that it didn't happen.
It happened. But it's because the author, -
43:02 - 43:06Luke, who wrote Luke and Acts,
he did not write it in details -
43:06 - 43:09every time what have happened.
-
43:09 - 43:13Some people say: Oh, because it's not
written it did not happen. -
43:13 - 43:17But some places there is not written
that they have repented. -
43:18 - 43:21Some places repentance is not mentioned.
-
43:22 - 43:25But how can you come to faith
without repentance? -
43:25 - 43:28Sometimes faith was actually
not mentioned. -
43:28 - 43:32How can you repent without faith?
-
43:32 - 43:34Just because it's not written doesn't mean
that it didn't happen. -
43:34 - 43:38But if you then take the Book of Acts
and read it all -
43:38 - 43:44and then draw as many details out
of the different things that happen, -
43:44 - 43:50you see a clear picture. And you see
that there is faith, repentance... -
43:50 - 43:54Or, first repentance, faith, baptism
in water and the Holy Spirit. -
43:54 - 43:58Those four. Repentance, faith,
baptism in water, baptism with the Holy Spirit, -
43:58 - 44:03those four go through the Book of Acts.
Again, again and again. -
44:03 - 44:08And this is the four, but the movie
only have two: repentance and faith. -
44:08 - 44:10They don't have baptism and the Holy Spirit.
-
44:10 - 44:15But if you read our Lord Jesus' word
ourselves: -
44:15 - 44:20The one who believes and is baptized
shall be saved. Jesus says it. -
44:20 - 44:24Yeah, but He also says: Those who do not
believe shall be condemned. -
44:24 - 44:26And there is not written about baptism...
-
44:26 - 44:30Yeah, because no one will get baptized
without faith. Come on! -
44:30 - 44:34Don't twist the Word. Just read the Word.
And that is the problem sometimes -
44:34 - 44:40with the seminary, sorry, that you can have
so big glasses that you cannot understand -
44:40 - 44:49the Word. If I take the Book of Acts and
give it to 20 kids, ten years old, -
44:49 - 44:54who haven't been at the seminary. Kids.
And say: Got through the Book of Acts. -
44:54 - 44:57Tell me: when the people get baptized?
Right away they came to faith -
44:57 - 45:00or first Sunday in the church meeting
after many years when they are ready? -
45:01 - 45:04They will say: Right away. Right away
when people came to faith -
45:04 - 45:07they got baptized.
Kids can see it. -
45:07 - 45:12But when I take people who have been
to university or studied in a seminary -
45:12 - 45:18and studied theology - they cannot see it.
Why? Because now they read with those big glasses. -
45:18 - 45:21If you have been to a Baptist university
- you read with a Baptist glasses. -
45:21 - 45:28If you have been to a Pentecostal seminary
- you read with a Pentecostal glasses. -
45:28 - 45:34And we often do what our tradition tells us
instead of doing what the Word is saying. -
45:34 - 45:38And that is the problem with the Pharisees.
They put the Word of God out of power -
45:38 - 45:42because of their traditions.
And I really encourage you - -
45:42 - 45:50just be like a child, read the Word and then
see what they did. Okay. I'll continue. -
45:50 - 45:55In the movie they never talked about baptism
in water or about the Holy Spirit. -
45:55 - 46:04It was all missing. But if you take out
your Bible and see how they did things -
46:04 - 46:10after the Cross, when the new covenant
began, you will see that baptism in water -
46:10 - 46:16was the first step of obedience.
It was something they did as a response -
46:16 - 46:21to the gospel, immediately,
for the remission of their sins. -
46:21 - 46:28You will also see that the gift of
the Holy Spirit was given to everyone. -
46:28 - 46:34Sometimes, people received the Holy Spirit
before baptism, like in Acts 10:46, -
46:34 - 46:40with Cornelius and his house, where Peter
heard them speaking in tongues and praising God, -
46:40 - 46:48and then they got baptized in water afterward.
Other times, they got baptized in water first, -
46:48 - 46:53then received the Holy Spirit afterward
when they were prayed for, -
46:53 - 46:58speaking in tongues and prophesying,
like we see with Paul in Acts 19. -
46:59 - 47:08We also see this today with many people,
all over the world, but that is all -
47:08 - 47:10missing here in this movie.
-
47:12 - 47:16We see that today. Again, some years ago
I did not see it in my life. -
47:16 - 47:19And I could build theology and say:
the Bible is wrong, the Bible is wrong - -
47:19 - 47:22why I don't see it my life?
But then I started to trust the Bible -
47:22 - 47:27saying: No, the Bible is not wrong.
I am wrong. And then I started to change. -
47:27 - 47:30And now we see it. We have seen thousands.
I've been part of... I don't know, -
47:30 - 47:383000 baptisms in the last five years.
People every week repent, -
47:38 - 47:40get baptized in water and receive
the Holy Spirit. -
47:40 - 47:44We hear so many testimonies.
And to see how people repent, -
47:44 - 47:48see how they get baptized and God
gives the Holy Spirit - it's so beautiful. -
47:48 - 47:51And if you want to see more,
I encourage you to see our movie -
47:51 - 47:54"The Last Reformation - The Beginning" and
"The Last Reformation - The Life" -
47:54 - 47:58where we talk about faith, we talk about
repentance, we talk about baptism in water, -
47:58 - 48:03we talk about the baptism with
the Holy Spirit and we talk about this life. -
48:04 - 48:09And I want to say... No, I can take that
later when we'll talk about baptism. -
48:09 - 48:13Let's continue.
What did the early church preach? -
48:13 - 48:18The four steps we see, again and again,
through the New Testament, are: -
48:18 - 48:22repentance, faith, baptism in water
and baptism in the Holy Spirit. -
48:22 - 48:27Yes, this is what the early church preached,
as what people needed to do, -
48:27 - 48:31to respond to the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
-
48:31 - 48:36Today, when we talk about
the importance of water baptism, -
48:36 - 48:43we often hear people say
water baptism is not important, -
48:43 - 48:53and use the example of the thief on the cross.
But, once again, the thief on the cross -
48:53 - 48:59was also before Jesus’ death,
resurrection and ascension. -
48:59 - 49:05When people use this example, it shows
they don’t know how to rightly divide -
49:05 - 49:09the Word of God. They don’t understand
when the old covenant ends, -
49:09 - 49:15and where the new covenant starts.
And this is where many go wrong, -
49:15 - 49:20including those you see in the movie
American Gospel: Christ Alone. -
49:20 - 49:27I want to say again... I did a video called:
"What about the robber on the cross?" -
49:27 - 49:33Because everyone use him as an example.
But again, see it very clear. -
49:33 - 49:36Did the robber on the cross get baptized
to Christ? No. -
49:36 - 49:40Did the woman at the well get baptized
to Christ? No. -
49:40 - 49:45Did the woman caught in adultery get baptized
to Christ? No. -
49:45 - 49:55And I could move on, move on.
I can go back to the Benjamin, Joseph, Ruth, -
49:55 - 50:04David, Abraham, Noah.
Did they get baptized to Christ? No. -
50:04 - 50:10And you say: Of course they didn't
because they were before Christ. -
50:10 - 50:14Yeah, but everything I said there
was before the cross. -
50:14 - 50:22NO-ONE, NO-ONE got baptized
to Jesus Christ before the cross. -
50:22 - 50:25They've got baptized with John's baptism,
who got baptized later. -
50:25 - 50:31You see that in Acts 19.
No one got baptized as the response. -
50:31 - 50:35But then Jesus said, before He ascended
to Heaven: Go out, make disciples -
50:35 - 50:39of all nations, baptizing them.
Baptizing them. -
50:39 - 50:43Make disciples baptizing them
and then teach them. -
50:43 - 50:47What do we do? We teach them a lot
and then we baptize them later. -
50:47 - 50:51Jesus said: One who believes and is
baptized shall be saved. -
50:51 - 50:54We say people should just believe
and then we say they are saved. -
50:54 - 50:58Jesus did not say that. He said:
Go out in the world, preach to all nations. -
50:58 - 51:02The one who believes and is baptized
shall be saved. -
51:02 - 51:07What do we see after the cross?
Peter preached, they responded, -
51:07 - 51:11they got baptized 3000.
-
51:11 - 51:13The Book of Acts 8.
Philip came to Samaria. -
51:13 - 51:15He preached.
They responded and get baptized. -
51:15 - 51:18He met the eunuch. He preached.
He responded: There's water. -
51:18 - 51:23Can I get baptized? Cornelius.
Peter was surprised that Cornelius -
51:23 - 51:26and his household received the Holy Spirit
because they were gentiles. -
51:26 - 51:30He was a Jew at a gentile home.
And he was so surprised that could happen. -
51:30 - 51:35So when they suddenly received the Holy Spirit
Peter commanded them right away -
51:35 - 51:40to get baptized in water. Why?
Because this is what the Bible says. -
51:40 - 51:44Right away.
Jailer - in the middle of the night. -
51:44 - 51:50When do we see people get baptized
in the middle of the night in the Bible? -
51:50 - 51:53They believed that baptism is important.
They did not only preached it. -
51:53 - 51:56They acted on it.
They lived it out. -
51:56 - 51:59And that was what the early church
was preaching. -
51:59 - 52:03So, just see it very, very simple.
Let's continue. -
52:03 - 52:08If you take the time to study every verse
in the Bible about water baptism, -
52:08 - 52:13you will see that people in the Bible
were baptized right away, -
52:13 - 52:19immediately after confessing Christ.
You will also see that baptism in water -
52:19 - 52:27is NOT just a symbol, but an actual part
of our salvation (Mark 16:17 – 1 Peter 3:21). -
52:27 - 52:34Baptism is where we bury the old man
and put on Christ, as Paul expresses -
52:34 - 52:41here in Romans 6:3-4:
“Know ye not, that so many of us -
52:41 - 52:46as were baptized into Jesus Christ
were baptized into His death? -
52:46 - 52:51Therefore we are buried with Him
by baptism into death: -
52:51 - 52:57that like as Christ was raised up
from the dead by the glory of the Father, -
52:57 - 53:04even so we also should walk
in newness of life.” and here: -
53:04 - 53:11“For ye are all the children of God
by faith in Christ Jesus.” (Galatians 3:26) -
53:11 - 53:17Yeah, look here. We are children of God
by faith in Jesus Christ. Yes. -
53:17 - 53:22We are all children of God by faith.
But when do we truly enter into that faith? -
53:22 - 53:28Read the next verse.
“For as many of you as have been baptized -
53:28 - 53:34into Christ have put on Christ.”
(Galatians 3:27) -
53:34 - 53:41Yes, we are the children of God by faith
in Jesus Christ because when we get baptized -
53:41 - 53:44into Christ we put on Christ.
-
53:44 - 53:49Baptism have been very hard for me to
understand. The first six, seven years -
53:49 - 53:52as a believer I was a church planter.
We have started a church. -
53:52 - 53:56Baptism was just a symbol.
It was just a symbol. -
53:56 - 54:00I did not understand it.
Because I had the religious glasses on. -
54:00 - 54:03But then I started to see how they
did it in the early church. -
54:03 - 54:08And if you really take the time
to just take every verse which -
54:08 - 54:15talks about baptism, you cannot
conclude, it's impossible to conclude -
54:15 - 54:19that baptism is just a symbol.
It's impossible to conclude -
54:19 - 54:25that baptism is just an outward sign
that you believe. -
54:25 - 54:29The Bible use so strong words of
dying with Christ, rising with Christ. -
54:30 - 54:37It's not a washing away the dirt but
clean conscience. It's washing away our sins. -
54:37 - 54:41When Ananias baptized Paul:
Stand up and wash away your sins. -
54:41 - 54:44Peter on Pentecost said:
For the forgiveness of your sins. -
54:44 - 54:48Do I believe that baptism can
wash away sins? Yes, I do. -
54:48 - 54:53And there is the problem with the mindset
today. We have the Greek mindset. -
54:53 - 54:56We don't know that physical things
have a spiritual impact. -
54:56 - 55:01Like Naaman in the Old Testament.
He had leprosy. God spoke to him -
55:01 - 55:04through the prophet: Go and dip yourself
seven times in Jordan and you will be free. -
55:04 - 55:08And when he dipped himself seven times
in Jordan he came up and was cleansed -
55:08 - 55:13from leprosy. It was not water that was
magical but he acted on the word of God -
55:13 - 55:18and God used that water to cleanse him
from his leprosy. -
55:18 - 55:23God can use physical things.
The tree of life was the physical tree of life. -
55:23 - 55:27The physical tree of knowledge of good and
evil was a physical tree, -
55:27 - 55:33but have a spiritual impact. Water is a
physical thing, but have a spiritual impact. -
55:33 - 55:37Water can wash away your sins, can give
you a clean conscience. -
55:37 - 55:41I've seen so many people who had a faith
in God, who believed in Christ, -
55:41 - 55:44but were struggling with sin.
They were not free. -
55:44 - 55:50The Romans 7, like: I want to do
a good thing but I cannot. -
55:50 - 55:55But we should live in Romans 6 - freedom
from sin. Sin has no dominion over you. -
55:55 - 55:58We are not under the law
but under the grace. -
55:59 - 56:03The way we often read the Bible.
We start with one line and then we move -
56:03 - 56:08to the other, but the Hebrew way is like
you go in circles. -
56:08 - 56:11And what people misunderstand with
Romans. Romans 6 is talking about -
56:11 - 56:16the new law, the Romans 7, 3 and 4 is
talking about the old and the new life, -
56:16 - 56:24and the Romans 7 is talking about the
old life again, and then Roman 7:14, and so on, -
56:24 - 56:28and then Romans 8 - the new life.
So, if you take a pen and do like that -
56:28 - 56:34through Romans, you can understand Romans.
And Paul in Romans 7:14 is talking -
56:34 - 56:37not about the normal Christian life.
He is talking about how it is to be -
56:37 - 56:43under sin, not to be free.
Romans 6, Roman 8 is the new life, -
56:43 - 56:47walked by the Spirit, not by the flesh,
and there is no condemnation -
56:47 - 56:50for those who are in Christ,
who walk by the Spirit. -
56:50 - 56:54And I met so many people who grew up
in churches, who feel condemned, -
56:54 - 56:57condemned, condemned, condemned.
And when they hear the true gospel -
56:57 - 57:02and then repent, they wash away their
own life, they bury their old life, -
57:02 - 57:07they rise up to Christ and it is so
beautiful. You can see that in our -
57:07 - 57:11"The Last Reformation" movies.
And it's so beautiful. -
57:11 - 57:13And this is what we see in the Bible.
-
57:16 - 57:21You cannot say that baptism is
just a symbol. You cannot say it. -
57:21 - 57:26And there we have a problem. Many people
think I believe in baptismal regeneration. -
57:26 - 57:29I don't. I grew up in Denmark,
which is a Lutheran country. -
57:29 - 57:35I know of demonic lies that baptism
saves by itself. I don't believe that. -
57:35 - 57:40My whole family have been deceived.
I was deceived. I was baptized as a baby, -
57:40 - 57:43and like the Catholics and the Lutherans
believe in the baptismal regeneration, -
57:43 - 57:47that you get born again by baptism.
I don't believe in that. -
57:47 - 57:54But it's wrong to go to the other side and
say that baptism is not a part of salvation. -
57:54 - 57:57And we have a video, I'll put a link of this
video, together with this, -
57:57 - 58:01it is called: "The road of salvation."
There is a road of salvation. -
58:02 - 58:05Like the Israelites were captures as
slaves in Egypt and they got saved -
58:05 - 58:09by the blood of the lamb, out of Egypt,
but it was not enough. -
58:09 - 58:12They would have died there. They
needed more to enter into the promised land -
58:12 - 58:17and continue. First, they've got saved out
of Egypt and now they needed to be saved -
58:17 - 58:22from Egypt by baptism through Moses,
like we got saved out of this world -
58:22 - 58:27but then we need to be saved from this world.
And you can see that more on videos -
58:27 - 58:30I have done, where I talk about the road
of salvation. -
58:30 - 58:33And we need to have the big picture
and the whole gospel. -
58:33 - 58:37The problem is that many people today
don't know where to put the baptism. -
58:37 - 58:40They believe that... If they read the baptism
is this: washing away of sins -
58:40 - 58:43and dying with Christ and rising up with
Christ... -
58:43 - 58:47Hey, I'm back again. I suddenly disappeared
because I had some problem with my camera -
58:47 - 58:54and the battery. I was saying
that baptism is a part of salvation -
58:54 - 58:59and I encourage you to go in and see the
video we have: "The road of salvation". -
58:59 - 59:05Okay. I want to continue now.
Faith and works -
59:05 - 59:12The problem we see today with the Bible
is that many people don’t know the context -
59:12 - 59:16it is written in, or how to rightly divide
the Word of God. -
59:16 - 59:21They often forget, as I said,
where the new covenant began. -
59:21 - 59:28They also forget that the letters were written
to those who were already believers - -
59:28 - 59:35believers who had gotten born-again
as we read in the book of Acts – -
59:35 - 59:41people who got baptized in water and
who had received the Holy Spirit. -
59:41 - 59:47So, when Paul warns us not to go back
to works (works by the law), -
59:47 - 59:52he is NOT talking about baptism in water
like some think. -
59:52 - 59:59Those he was writing to had all already
gotten baptized in water, right away, -
59:59 - 60:07when they came to faith. To quote Paul or
others and say baptism in water is “works”, -
60:07 - 60:11like many do, is really twisting
the Word of God. -
60:12 - 60:19Oh, I needed to had that in, because
I've heard so many people from that movement -
60:19 - 60:23we see there, behind the movie, saying:
No, it's works, it's works. -
60:23 - 60:26Baptism is works. It's works, it's works,
it's works. -
60:26 - 60:31It's not works. It have never been works.
When the Bible talks about works, -
60:31 - 60:37it warns about works, it's works by the law,
or works you need to do something. -
60:37 - 60:42If baptism is works, repentance is works.
Faith is works. -
60:45 - 60:51When Paul warns at the beginning
of the Galatians: Foolish Galatians! -
60:51 - 60:55Who have bewitched you? You started good
and you ended up wrong, and all of this, -
60:55 - 61:01he warned against going to works -
he is not talking about baptism. -
61:01 - 61:07Of course he is not talking about baptism.
Why? Because in the same letter, -
61:07 - 61:12in the same letter to those people
he warned about works, -
61:12 - 61:16in the same letter, chapter 3:26,
we read before... -
61:20 - 61:24You became the children of God through faith
when you got baptized to Christ, -
61:24 - 61:31you have put on Christ. He will not warn
against baptism and then later, -
61:31 - 61:37to people who are baptized, says:
When you got baptized you have put on Christ. -
61:37 - 61:41It doesn't make sense. And this is what
we have done with the Word. -
61:41 - 61:44People have really twisted the Word
because of chapters and verses -
61:44 - 61:48and we take thing out the context.
Remember the letters. -
61:48 - 61:56All the letters were written to
already believers, born again believers. -
61:56 - 61:58Born again believers who have repented.
-
61:58 - 62:00Born again believers who have got baptized.
-
62:00 - 62:04Born again believers who have
received the Holy Spirit. -
62:04 - 62:12It's written to those believers.
It will be more clear when I continue now. -
62:12 - 62:16Also, when Paul reminds the people in
Ephesus how they received the Holy Spirit -
62:16 - 62:24when they believed (Ephesians 1:13),
remember who the PEOPLE are he’s writing to. -
62:24 - 62:29He was not writing to people who had just
“prayed the sinner’s prayer”, -
62:29 - 62:34because that did not exist at the time.
He was also not writing to a baptist church, -
62:34 - 62:38a reformed church, a pentecostal church,
or any other church we see today, -
62:38 - 62:42because they (with all their tradition)
also did not exist at the time. -
62:42 - 62:51He wrote to those who when they
(not you or me) believed, -
62:51 - 62:58received the Holy Spirit right away.
Today though, we have catholic, baptist, -
62:58 - 63:02reformed people, and so on,
who all read the same letters, -
63:02 - 63:09and out of them teach that you automatically
receive the Holy Spirit when YOU believe, -
63:09 - 63:14but that is simply not true.
If you read Acts chapter 8, -
63:14 - 63:19you see how people there heard Philip’s
preaching and believed, repented and -
63:19 - 63:24got baptized in water right away. But they
still had not yet received the Holy Spirit. -
63:24 - 63:29Yes, it is possible to believe without receiving.
-
63:29 - 63:35And here I would say... Oh...
It's so important to understand that. -
63:35 - 63:41Remember. If you take Ephesians 1:13,
it's written here: -
63:41 - 63:47"In him you also, when you heard
the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, -
63:47 - 63:54and believed in him, were sealed with the
promised Holy Spirit". -
63:54 - 63:59So we, out of that, teach that when people
come to faith - automatically -
63:59 - 64:04they receive the Holy Spirit. But remember,
we have today Catholics who read that. -
64:04 - 64:09We have Baptists who read that.
We have many kinds of people who read that. -
64:09 - 64:13We have even Jehovah's Witnesses
and Mormons. -
64:13 - 64:16We have Jehovah's Witnesses who read
this verse: -
64:16 - 64:21"In him you"... Hmm... Me. "When you heard"
Aha... When I heard. -
64:21 - 64:25"the word of truth" ... Yeah.
I was sealed with the Holy Spirit. Yeah. -
64:25 - 64:30And they teach that. But this is not written
to a Mormon. It's not written to -
64:30 - 64:33Jehovah's Witness. It's not written to you,
actually. It's not written to me. -
64:33 - 64:39It's written to them. Who were they?
How did they believe? -
64:39 - 64:42What did they do when they believed?
They repented, they got baptized -
64:42 - 64:45and they received the Holy Spirit.
-
64:46 - 64:53Another place, the Book of Acts 19:2,
Paul asked some believers -
64:53 - 64:57when he met them: Did you receive
the Holy Spirit when you believed? -
64:57 - 65:02How will Paul ask somebody did you
receive the Holy Spirit when you believed -
65:02 - 65:07if people automatically receive
the Holy Spirit when they believe? -
65:07 - 65:11You have to understand the Word.
Take off the religious glasses and see it. -
65:11 - 65:16Understand the context it's written in.
And we have our church denominations -
65:16 - 65:21that just put the Word of God
out of power because of our traditions. -
65:21 - 65:25We don't see it. We don't see the context -
to whom is written to and how. -
65:25 - 65:29And there I want to add.
I added a text here. -
65:29 - 65:34When a person comes to Christ, it is
because the Holy Spirit draws that person -
65:34 - 65:40(John 6:46), and when a person sees their sin,
it is also because of the Holy Spirit -
65:40 - 65:46(John 16:8). All of this is a work
by the Holy Spirit, but this is not the same -
65:46 - 65:54as being filled with the Holy Spirit
(Matthew 3:11, Acts 8:16, John 14:17, Acts 19:2). -
65:54 - 65:58The reason I wanted to add this is because
there are people who believe like a... -
65:58 - 66:02a special anointing, a special gifting,
and there is a lot of filling of the Holy Spirit. -
66:02 - 66:06I believe you get baptized
with the Holy Spirit one time. One time. -
66:06 - 66:11The Holy Spirit comes in. I was baptized
with the Holy Spirit that day I came to faith. -
66:11 - 66:14The Holy Spirit came...
He changed my life. -
66:14 - 66:19The Holy Spirit came into me and so on.
And I believe there is a sign there -
66:19 - 66:23and the sign, in the Book of Acts 8
something was missing. -
66:23 - 66:26You don't see what was missing,
but the apostles knew that they have not yet -
66:26 - 66:28received the Holy Spirit.
How did they know that? -
66:28 - 66:31They saw something was missing.
They laid hands on them -
66:31 - 66:32and something happened at that
moment. -
66:32 - 66:35Not only for those who got prayed for
but for other people who watched -
66:35 - 66:40because Simon the sorcerer saw that
the Spirit was given by hands of the apostles. -
66:40 - 66:43How did he saw that?
Because something happened right there. -
66:43 - 66:45There is a sign when the Holy Spirit comes.
-
66:45 - 66:51You don't see that clear there,
you don't see there, but if you go to Acts 2 -
66:51 - 66:56and Acts 10 and Acts 19, you see what
that is - they spoke in tongues. -
66:56 - 66:59And people are quoting, quoting, quoting,
quoting, quoting, quoting, quoting, quoting: -
66:59 - 67:02Yeah, yeah, yeah, but tongues are
not for everyone. -
67:02 - 67:05And I would say that one of the tongues
is not for everyone. -
67:05 - 67:09I fully believe in that. But there are
different kinds of tongues. -
67:09 - 67:11And that is where people go wrong.
There are four tongues. -
67:11 - 67:14I have a teaching about that.
I can put a link to that teaching. -
67:14 - 67:16I speak in tongues now.
Tongues means language. -
67:16 - 67:20I believe when you get the Spirit and
get born again, you get a spiritual tongue, -
67:20 - 67:23you speak spiritual language.
I believe it is fore everyone. -
67:23 - 67:26And there is a tongue who needs to be
interpreted in the church, -
67:26 - 67:29only two or three at a time.
And there are tongues of Pentecost -
67:29 - 67:32where you see people spoke another
language. I experienced that. -
67:32 - 67:35I experienced that, when the Holy Spirit
comes and I speak. -
67:35 - 67:38And people of other language understand
what I am saying. -
67:38 - 67:42But that is not something I can do
when I want to and that is not for everyone. -
67:42 - 67:46It happens by the Spirit.
But we take one verse: -
67:46 - 67:51It's not everyone who speak in tongues and
then we cancel all different kinds of tongues. -
67:52 - 67:56And that's why I've gone a teaching
about tongues, how it works -
67:56 - 67:57and different kinds of tongues.
-
67:57 - 68:01But you see in the Bible that there is
a clear sign when people receive -
68:01 - 68:05the Holy Spirit. I don't say, by that,
that those who don't speak in tongues -
68:05 - 68:10they don't have the Spirit, but if you
have the Spirit, I believe you have the gift. -
68:10 - 68:13You just need to use it. And we have
been teaching about it -
68:13 - 68:18and we have seen thousands of people
receive tongues. It's really beautiful. -
68:18 - 68:21And that new life. I also believe that
some people can fake it, -
68:21 - 68:24I believe there are false tongues,
I believe is not everyone who speaks -
68:24 - 68:27in tongues who actually
speaks by the Spirit. I've seen that. -
68:27 - 68:32I see false tongues in other religions
also. I've seen people been set free, -
68:32 - 68:34who came from place where they all
got false tongues and they actually -
68:34 - 68:39went to a deliverance, and then
it went out. -
68:39 - 68:43I had a family come to me, I prayed
for them, one fell down and manifested -
68:43 - 68:47and spoke in tongues. And I was like:
This is not tongues. This is false. -
68:47 - 68:51This is demonic. And mom was so surprised.
I said: Come out in the name of Jesus! -
68:51 - 68:57And suddenly that tongue left, a demon,
and then they got filled with the Holy Spirit -
68:57 - 69:01and spoke in tongues. The real tongues.
That actually happened with the whole family. -
69:01 - 69:06The whole family have got false tongues.
I've seen it. There are false tongues. -
69:06 - 69:08But there's also real tongues.
And it's beautiful. -
69:08 - 69:11Because the promise of the Holy Spirit
is for you and your children, -
69:11 - 69:15your grandchildren and everyone who's
afar off and He's the same today. -
69:15 - 69:17So, just because you are in the church
denomination or a place -
69:17 - 69:20where you don't see it, doesn't mean
that it doesn't happen today. -
69:23 - 69:27I have a whole teaching about that
and I can put the video link -
69:27 - 69:29together with this video, where you
can see I talk about the different -
69:29 - 69:33kinds of tongues there are.
-
69:33 - 69:37But again, understand the context
the Bible is written to. -
69:37 - 69:40Hey, now you can see I'm suddenly
outside. What happened was -
69:40 - 69:45I was sitting inside filming, but my
SD card was full, so I put it -
69:45 - 69:50on the computer, but then, when I needed
to start filming again, my family was home -
69:50 - 69:54and everyone was walking around
the house and making a lot of noise, -
69:54 - 70:00so I actually just decided to move outside.
So I will continue from outside here now. -
70:00 - 70:02And I will continue to read here.
-
70:02 - 70:05Remember that the Bible was meant
for the common man. -
70:05 - 70:11You don’t need to go to seminary or have
a theology degree to understand the Bible. -
70:11 - 70:16People who go to seminary often come out
with the same religious glasses on, -
70:16 - 70:20seeing things only the way they have been
taught there. -
70:20 - 70:24Then they end up blindly leading others.
-
70:24 - 70:31I want to add again there - the Bible is
really meant for the common man. -
70:31 - 70:35And, as I said before, if you take just
baptism, for example, -
70:35 - 70:39and give the Book of Acts to
ten years old kids and say: -
70:39 - 70:42When did people get baptized?
What did people preached? -
70:42 - 70:46How did people respond to the gospel?
I think it's so clear. -
70:46 - 70:49But now we have people from seminaries
and so on, who don't see it, -
70:49 - 70:55because they all believe the same thing.
When I meet people I can often say: -
70:55 - 71:00Tell me where you have studied and
I'll tell you what you believe. -
71:01 - 71:03And it's like that with everyone.
The same it was with me. -
71:03 - 71:08But I have left my background and I
have been in the other side -
71:08 - 71:13and I've been all over. And personally,
I'm in a way that if I look at a subject -
71:13 - 71:18in the Bible I love to see what everyone
is teaching before. -
71:18 - 71:22Like, when we talk about many of the guys
you see them in the movie -
71:22 - 71:25"American Gospel", I've been listening
a lot to some of them. -
71:25 - 71:28I've been listening a lot.
I have seen a lot of preaching. -
71:28 - 71:32There was a strange "Fire conference"
some years ago where they talked -
71:32 - 71:37against... how things were misbused
in the charismatic movement. -
71:37 - 71:41I've seen the whole conference.
I've listened to it two times. -
71:41 - 71:44And there's something I really, really,
really agree with, -
71:44 - 71:47and something I really disagree with.
Really disagree with. -
71:47 - 71:52But, this is where I stand.
I really like to see from both sides -
71:52 - 71:55and I encourage you to see it
from both sides and then take the Bible -
71:55 - 72:04and just read it and trust that you can
understand the Bible. I'll continue. -
72:05 - 72:09Many of those today are totally blind
when it comes to the book of Acts. -
72:09 - 72:13They say Jesus is the same yesterday and
today and forever (Hebrews 13:8), -
72:13 - 72:19but by their life and preaching,
deny what we read in the Bible, -
72:19 - 72:23like it is not for us today.
But if Jesus is the same yesterday and today -
72:23 - 72:27and forever, then the Holy Spirit is also
the same yesterday and today and forever. -
72:27 - 72:31People are still in their sin,
and they need to hear the whole gospel, -
72:31 - 72:36and to be born-again. There are still demons
and we need to cast them out. -
72:36 - 72:39There are still sick people
and they need healing. -
72:39 - 72:45I'm very simple when it comes to this.
Yeah, I don't have a big theology degree. -
72:45 - 72:52I love God, I love Jesus, I pray a lot,
I fast a lot, I read the Bible a lot, -
72:52 - 72:58I listen to sermons and I have not been
to a university, I don't have a degree, -
72:58 - 73:04I admit that, but I believe still that
you can just, by your relationship with Christ, -
73:04 - 73:10by the Holy Spirit teaching you and the Bible,
you can really come to understand the Word of God. -
73:10 - 73:18And I see Jesus is the same today.
The Holy Spirit is the same today. -
73:18 - 73:22I cannot deny that.
I cannot see it anyway else. -
73:22 - 73:27And then we have people who deny that
but they say when other speak in tongues: -
73:27 - 73:30This is demonic! This is demons!
This is demons! -
73:30 - 73:32I say: But if it's demons,
then cast demons out. -
73:32 - 73:34No, we don't cast demons out.
-
73:36 - 73:39How can you deny that...
What happened with all the demons? -
73:39 - 73:45Like, there were demons in the time of Jesus,
there were demons in times of the apostles, -
73:45 - 73:50and they cast out demons. Then we got
the canon, we got the Bible, -
73:50 - 73:54did demons suddenly just disappear?
No, they didn't. -
73:54 - 73:59We should still cast demons out.
But if you go and really study history, -
73:59 - 74:02you can see that we have 2000 years
with the Holy Spirit. -
74:02 - 74:07Yes, we celebrate Pentecost at the Azusa
Street 1901, what happened there, -
74:07 - 74:11but the Holy Spirit have been on earth
over 2000 years -
74:11 - 74:14and there have been always people
who have been healing the sick, -
74:14 - 74:16casting out demons and
speaking in tongues. -
74:16 - 74:20It did not disappeared with the apostles,
it did not disappeared with the canon, -
74:20 - 74:26with the Bible and it did not just come
to earth with Pentecost. -
74:26 - 74:32No, He have been there for 2000 years.
And I recommend you to go into church history -
74:32 - 74:34and look more of that, how it is.
-
74:36 - 74:42I also recommend, as I wrote here,
see our movie "The Last Reformation - The Life" -
74:42 - 74:46where we tried to draw a picture
of the Book of Acts, and so on. -
74:46 - 74:48I'll continue.
I'll soon finish here. -
74:48 - 74:53The book of Acts shows not only how
the early church was preaching and living, -
74:53 - 74:59but also what people did when they gave
their lives to Christ and were born-again. -
74:59 - 75:04It shows a life where they went through
persecution and hard times. -
75:04 - 75:09But we do still see how God took care
of His people’s needs, and filled them -
75:09 - 75:13with joy in the Holy Spirit
in the middle of the hard times. -
75:13 - 75:20We also see healing and deliverance
happening by the hands of the disciples -
75:20 - 75:22(not only the apostles. See Acts 9,
with a disciple named Ananias). -
75:22 - 75:25Because, often people say it disappeared
with the apostles, -
75:25 - 75:30but who gave Paul the Holy Spirit?
It was a disciple called Ananias. -
75:30 - 75:35In the Book of Acts 9 you read about that.
It was just a disciple who laid hand on Paul -
75:35 - 75:38so he could see again.
It was just a disciple like you and me -
75:38 - 75:41who prayed, baptized him in water
and laid hands on him -
75:41 - 75:43so Paul received the Spirit.
It was just a disciple. -
75:43 - 75:47So, it was not only for the apostles.
It was for everyone. -
75:49 - 75:54I love the Book of Acts, not more than
the gospels, not more than letters, -
75:54 - 75:58but the Book of Acts really gives
a picture of how the early disciples -
75:58 - 76:04were living. You don't see prosperity
gospel preached in the Book of Acts. -
76:04 - 76:10You see persecution. You see how they
were persecuted again, again and again. -
76:10 - 76:13And I know about persecution.
I've tasted a little of it. -
76:13 - 76:17We have fled from our own country
and we are now here in America -
76:17 - 76:22because of big, big persecution
in Denmark. We have seen persecution. -
76:22 - 76:24Of course, not on the same scale
as them, but... -
76:24 - 76:31I often preach about the persecution.
If you look a Jesus as a pastor, -
76:31 - 76:37He had a martyr percent over 90.
Over 90% in His church died as a martyr, -
76:37 - 76:41if you take the Twelve.
Judas took his own life and John was -
76:41 - 76:45the only one who lived a long life.
The rest of them died as martyrs. -
76:45 - 76:49But everyone of them experienced
being hated, being mocked, -
76:49 - 76:55being lied about. There are a lot of
false rumors about me on the internet, -
76:55 - 77:00about everyone. And also, therefore,
when I see a video like this -
77:00 - 77:04that is critical about other people,
I also say: Don't trust everything -
77:04 - 77:10you see on YouTube. Because I've
seen people twisted what I've said -
77:10 - 77:14and people share things out of context
and all of that. -
77:15 - 77:20Jesus have promised us that people
would lie and persecute us, and so on. -
77:22 - 77:26I love the life in the Book of Acts
because it's so real. -
77:26 - 77:30It's not in a big airplane,
flying to a big meetings - -
77:30 - 77:34it costs everything to follow God,
to follow Jesus -
77:34 - 77:37and how it was to be a disciple
led by the Holy Spirit. -
77:37 - 77:42And you see that no other places
exactly like in the Book of Acts. -
77:43 - 77:50But we need the truth and the Spirit
and this is the last chapter in this article -
77:50 - 77:52I've written here.
I'll continue. -
77:52 - 77:58My message to you out there is that you
don’t need to choose between the two sides -
77:58 - 78:02you see in the movie American Gospel:
Christ Alone. -
78:02 - 78:08Many years ago, when I left
the “faith movement”, as I often call it, -
78:08 - 78:13I was for a long time listening to some
of the preachers you see in the movie. -
78:13 - 78:18I even met some of them.
And what I heard, I really loved. -
78:18 - 78:26It was so good to finally get some good,
solid Bible teaching (some of it), -
78:26 - 78:31that I had been missing where I came from.
I loved the focus on the fear of God. -
78:31 - 78:37I loved the focus on the Cross. Yes, many
things I had been missing, I got from there. -
78:37 - 78:41But after a short time, I started to feel dry,
like something was missing. -
78:41 - 78:47I felt something was really wrong,
and then the Holy Spirit stopped me. -
78:47 - 78:51He showed me how I had just gone
from one side of the road to the other. -
78:51 - 78:55And I had now started to deny
the work of the Holy Spirit. -
78:55 - 79:00And I am so thankful that God
stopped me there. -
79:00 - 79:08Don’t make the same mistake I did, by leaving
one wrong side to go over to another. -
79:08 - 79:14Don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater.
Yes, we need the Word and that is important. -
79:14 - 79:20But we also need the Spirit.
We can not live without both. -
79:20 - 79:25We should worship Him in Spirit and Truth.
(John 4:24). -
79:25 - 79:32The story there, what happened was that
I started to see the Holy Spirit works, -
79:32 - 79:35I started to see power of God, people got
healed and people got delivered -
79:35 - 79:41and we saw beautiful things.
But I got disappointed by the faith movement. -
79:41 - 79:48I got disappointed by seeing so many liders
getting divorces and remarried -
79:48 - 79:57and just started in ministry. I got disappointed
of the lack of the Cross and the fear of God, -
79:57 - 80:03with some of the things, and I saw things
that were not good. -
80:03 - 80:08And it started a journey in me
where I left it, where I said: -
80:08 - 80:14I cannot be part of it. And there I started
to find some of the other preachers, -
80:14 - 80:18you see in the movie. And I listened
and I loved it. -
80:18 - 80:20I really, really loved it. There were
so many good things. -
80:20 - 80:27It was good to finally get some solid
Bible teaching, and so on. -
80:28 - 80:32But I felt something was missing,
after a short time. I really felt it. -
80:32 - 80:36And then we had a meeting in our house.
We had a house church at that time. -
80:37 - 80:42And we had a meeting of the first floor.
And there was a girl who fell down. -
80:42 - 80:47The Holy Spirit came and she fell down.
A demon was manifesting. -
80:48 - 80:52People were praying for her
to set her free from that demon. -
80:52 - 80:58When that happened I did not like it.
I went downstairs to come away from it, -
80:58 - 81:01to make some coffee. And when I was
down there, I said to God: -
81:01 - 81:04God, stop it. I don't like this anymore.
I don't want this. -
81:04 - 81:08I want to control it. I want it to look nice.
I want it to look beautiful. -
81:08 - 81:10I want it to be in order.
This is not in order. -
81:10 - 81:14Somebody is laying on the floor and
manifesting a demon. I don't like it. -
81:15 - 81:20And there, down in the kitchen,
when I walked up again, God stopped me. -
81:20 - 81:25The Holy Spirit stopped me. And God said:
Torben, can you not see what you've been -
81:25 - 81:28doing? You have gone from one side of
the road to another. -
81:28 - 81:30You have thrown the baby out
with the bathwater. -
81:30 - 81:34It was like how I felt it.
And I saw: What have happened? -
81:34 - 81:42Come on! To all of that teaching,
to all the things, I have come to a point -
81:42 - 81:45where I denied and I didn't want
the supernatural anymore. -
81:45 - 81:49I didn't want casting out demons
because it was not something -
81:49 - 81:53I could control. I just wanted to be
nice, in a box. -
81:54 - 81:59And there I just needed to repent.
That night, down in the kitchen, -
81:59 - 82:05making coffee, on the way upstairs,
I repented and said: Sorry God. -
82:05 - 82:09I have just gone from one side
of the road to the other. -
82:09 - 82:13I want to build on Your Word, Your truth,
but also the Spirit. -
82:13 - 82:16And in the Bible Jesus said:
These signs follow those who believe. -
82:16 - 82:19In my name they shall cast out demons
and I believed that. -
82:19 - 82:23No matter what any other preacher
says, I want to build on the Word. -
82:23 - 82:27No matter if some people have misbused it.
I know what Matthew is saying -
82:27 - 82:30that one day many will say: Lord, Lord,
have we not prophesied, -
82:30 - 82:32healed the sick, have we have not done that
in Your name? -
82:32 - 82:36Apart from me, I never knew you.
But the problem was there, -
82:36 - 82:41you who commit lawlessness,
you who live in sin. -
82:41 - 82:47I know people can misbuse the real thing.
It happened before and it's going to happen again. -
82:47 - 82:52But, I want to build on the Word of God
and I don't want to stand in front of Jesus -
82:52 - 82:57one day, and He says: Why do you call me
Lord, Lord, if you don't do what I say? -
82:57 - 83:01And He have commanded us to preach
the gospel with words, -
83:01 - 83:04but He have also commanded us
to heal the sick. -
83:04 - 83:06He have also commanded us
to cast out demons. -
83:06 - 83:12I'm not like healing the sick freak
who's just focused on healing, healing, healing -
83:12 - 83:15or deliverance, deliverance, deliverance,
deliverance. I love Jesus -
83:15 - 83:19and I just want to see the Kingdom of God
to come. -
83:19 - 83:22And it's all about salvation, getting people
born again, sound and safe. -
83:22 - 83:27It's all about that. That is the main focus,
not healing, not deliverance, not that, but... -
83:27 - 83:32I love Jesus. Do you love Jesus?
If you love Jesus then obey Him. -
83:32 - 83:35And this is where I am.
If we love Jesus we need to obey Him. -
83:35 - 83:39And I had a time in my life where I did not
do any of those things. -
83:39 - 83:44But I saw it in the Bible and I said:
God, I need not to build on my life -
83:44 - 83:47and my experience.
I need to build on the Word of God. -
83:47 - 83:52And it started with the Word of God,
in my life. So, it was my journey. -
83:52 - 83:57I went out of it. Went from one place
there. And what I'm so thankful to say -
83:57 - 84:02now is that God is rising up something new,
something beautiful, where we have -
84:02 - 84:09both the Word and the Spirit together.
And we worship Him in both Spirit and in Truth. -
84:09 - 84:11And I'll continue here.
-
84:11 - 84:18Take your Bible and read it for yourself.
You need to build on the Word of God alone, -
84:18 - 84:21no matter what your traditions says.
-
84:21 - 84:28You also need the Spirit of Truth
to teach you the whole truth, to set you free. -
84:28 - 84:36Again, it is the Spirit and Truth.
Don’t get lost in the Word like many do today, -
84:36 - 84:41and like the religious people
at the time of Jesus did. -
84:41 - 84:47They studied the Word daily
waiting for their Messiah, -
84:47 - 84:52but when He stood there in front of them,
they could not recognize Him. -
84:52 - 84:58The Word without the Spirit
had blinded them, as we see so often today. -
84:58 - 85:02And then I have a quote what Jesus is
saying to the Pharisees here. -
85:02 - 85:10“You study the Scriptures diligently because
you think that in them you have eternal life. -
85:11 - 85:17These are the very Scriptures that testify
about Me, yet you refuse -
85:17 - 85:23to come to Me to have life.” (John 5:39-40)
-
85:27 - 85:30This is the big, big problem.
-
85:30 - 85:36I believe in the Word,
but we see a movement today -
85:36 - 85:39who builds on the Father, on the Son
and the Holy Scripture. -
85:39 - 85:44And not the Father, and the Son
and the Holy Spirit. -
85:45 - 85:51We should never throw the Holy Spirit
out for the sake of the Scripture. -
85:51 - 85:55I believe in the Word. But remember,
in the early church they did not walk around -
85:55 - 86:01with the New Testament. We have
hundreds years of history -
86:01 - 86:08where they did not got presented
to the New Testament. -
86:09 - 86:14They did not have it. There were
letters, there was this, -
86:14 - 86:17but it was very expensive. It was
not just something you'd copy. -
86:17 - 86:19Paul and Peter did not walk around
with the New Testament in their hands. -
86:19 - 86:29And even not the Old Testament.
I love the Word, but... -
86:30 - 86:38We should never depend more on
the Word than the Holy Spirit. -
86:38 - 86:43The Word and the Holy Spirit should
go together hand in hand. -
86:43 - 86:45Spirit and Truth.
-
86:45 - 86:49If you only have the Word without
focus on the Spirit, -
86:49 - 86:55it is so, so easy to get lost.
It's so, so easy to get lost. -
86:55 - 87:01The same place, if you only have the Spirit
without the Word, you can also get lost. -
87:01 - 87:06And this is what we see. We see one place
where they focus too - Word, Word, Word -
87:06 - 87:11without the Spirit. Another place -
Spirit, Spirit, Spirit, without the Word. -
87:11 - 87:14And both of them would say: we have
equal Spirit and the Word, -
87:14 - 87:20but this is just my way of seeing it.
And this is the thing. -
87:20 - 87:24We need the Spirit and the Word.
We need both. -
87:24 - 87:28But people need first to be
introduced to the Spirit. -
87:28 - 87:33They need to hear the gospel
and then they need to repent. -
87:33 - 87:36And then they need to get baptized.
They need the Holy Spirit. -
87:36 - 87:42Because when the Holy Spirit comes
and the true life, He will open the Scripture. -
87:42 - 87:51And we need that. But I just want to say
for people to remember those two things - -
87:51 - 87:55Word and Spirit, Spirit and Word,
Word and Spirit, Spirit and Word. -
87:55 - 88:01The Word was not only for us to memorize
it in Greek and Hebrew and be quoted. -
88:01 - 88:04The Word was for us to be lived out.
-
88:04 - 88:08There are people today like, they get
the Word and say: Yes, now I have -
88:08 - 88:13memorized the Word. I memorized it.
I can even in Greek and Hebrew. -
88:13 - 88:15Do you want to hear it?
-
88:15 - 88:20But, that was never the idea.
Jesus did not speak the Word for us -
88:20 - 88:25to just sit and memorize it. He spoke
the Word for us to take it and believe it -
88:25 - 88:30and live it out. And it's really when we
live it out, like the Bible says, -
88:30 - 88:34if you only hear the Word and do not do it,
you are like a man looking at the mirror, -
88:34 - 88:39but as soon as you go away you have forgotten
what you saw. You are deceiving yourself. -
88:39 - 88:43There is not really a transformation.
But as soon as you actively go out -
88:43 - 88:48on the Word, the Word really becomes
alive. And this is what I love with -
88:48 - 88:51the Book of Acts and the whole
New Testament. -
88:51 - 88:55They were people with mistakes.
They were not perfect. There were issues. -
88:55 - 88:59There were conflicts. But you see the life
of Christ working in them. -
88:59 - 89:04And they were all willing to give their
life and die for this. -
89:04 - 89:10Paul didn't say: Oh, I love this world.
I love my airplane, I love my car, -
89:10 - 89:13I love my house, I love everything.
Jesus, please don't come back -
89:13 - 89:18because I love this life. No, Paul was
saying: Jesus, I long for You. -
89:19 - 89:26I long to come out of this tent
and I long to see You face to face. -
89:26 - 89:31But yes, I'll stay here, I want to do that
because other people also need to -
89:31 - 89:35experience You. Why? Because it's all
about Him. He is the life. -
89:35 - 89:44So, I added here: You need the Word,
but the Word needs to lead you to Jesus -
89:44 - 89:59so HE can give you life by the Spirit.
You now have both the Word and the Spirit -
89:59 - 90:02to teach you the whole truth.
And then I ended up with this. -
90:02 - 90:07I know it's been a very, very long video.
Sorry for that. -
90:07 - 90:11The normal Christian life
is what you find in the Word of God -
90:11 - 90:16- a life following Jesus - a life
free from sin, and I added: -
90:16 - 90:19free from porn, lying, stealing,
fornication, etc. -
90:19 - 90:22I want to say: Jesus did not come to
save us in our sins. -
90:22 - 90:26He came to save us from our sins.
And I have videos about this. -
90:26 - 90:29I will link together with this.
He came to set us free. -
90:29 - 90:34The first six years, when I repented
and came to faith, I got a new heart, -
90:34 - 90:38but I was struggling with sin,
I was not free. -
90:38 - 90:42I was really not free from sin, but
six years later, when I really... -
90:42 - 90:44It took me six years to get truly
born again. It could have happened -
90:44 - 90:48the same day if somebody was
preaching the gospel to me. -
90:48 - 90:52But when I really understood it,
when baptism came in and the Holy Spirit - -
90:52 - 90:55I really understood it.
It changed everything. -
90:55 - 91:00And I experienced a freedom where focus
was not: Oh, don't do that, don't do that... -
91:01 - 91:05The focus was Christ and
Christ have set me free. -
91:05 - 91:11So, Jesus came to set us free from our sins,
to create a new man, not save us in our sins -
91:11 - 91:15so we can go on sinning with bad conscience.
He came to cleanse us, to set us free. -
91:16 - 91:19I'll continue.
...filled with the Holy Spirit, -
91:19 - 91:24preaching the gospel, healing the sick,
casting out demons – an amazing life, -
91:24 - 91:30full of joy and full of persecution.
Because it comes with persecution. -
91:30 - 91:38Yes, Jesus never promised us an easy life,
but He has promised us that He is with us -
91:38 - 91:45through it all. If your life doesn’t look
like what we read in the book of Acts – -
91:45 - 91:50if the way you preach the gospel
and the way people respond to the gospel -
91:50 - 91:53doesn’t look like what you see there,
then there is something wrong, -
91:53 - 91:56no matter what others tell you.
-
91:56 - 92:00May you seek Him until you find Him.
-
92:00 - 92:04That was my text and that was
what I want to say here. -
92:04 - 92:08No matter what other people tell you,
we are all going to stand alone -
92:08 - 92:11in front of God one day, not with our
church denomination, -
92:11 - 92:14not with our pastors,
not with our leaders. -
92:14 - 92:21And I would say - everyone who get born
into an organization, -
92:21 - 92:27or born into a... what is called... a church
denomination -
92:27 - 92:31will always believe that church denomination
is preaching the whole truth -
92:31 - 92:35and nothing but the truth. Because
when you get born again -
92:35 - 92:40what you see around you is what you think
is the only truth. -
92:40 - 92:45But I want to say, I don't think that one
organization has the whole truth. -
92:45 - 92:51I believe the whole truth is found by
getting a little from everyone. -
92:51 - 92:57And my first lesson on the online
"Pioneer School" you find on -
92:57 - 93:02TheLastReformation.com, the online
"Pioneer School", there I talked about -
93:02 - 93:05the church history. I talked about
in the beginning of the church -
93:05 - 93:09we have the Book of Acts, the revival
Christianity we read there. -
93:09 - 93:14But then everything changed with
Constantine and we got the Catholic church -
93:14 - 93:22where everything was changed.
We got a pope, bishops, priests, nuns, monks. -
93:22 - 93:25Where do you see that in the Bible?
You don't. -
93:27 - 93:32It got changed. The baptism got changed.
The Holy Spirit, speaking in tongues, -
93:32 - 93:34gifts got changed. Everything got changed.
-
93:34 - 93:38But then we've got the Reformation
with Martin Luther in fifteen hundreds -
93:38 - 93:44at Wittenberg church in Germany and
out of that we've got the Lutheran church -
93:44 - 93:50I grew up in. And yes, the pope went out
and we are, somehow, happy for that, -
93:50 - 93:55but Martin Luther did not reform the church
back to what we see in the Bible. -
93:55 - 93:59He did not reform it back.
He changed a few things. -
93:59 - 94:03We've got justification by faith but there
were many things he did not do. -
94:03 - 94:07But the reformation did not stop there.
It continued. -
94:07 - 94:12But some people are still building
on the Reformation, with Luther, -
94:12 - 94:14and don't see that something
came after Luther. -
94:14 - 94:18We got the Anabaptists who brought
the biblical baptism of believers back. -
94:18 - 94:21Something Martin Luther did not do,
but the Anabaptists did. -
94:21 - 94:25And then we just saw a move by move,
by God, -
94:25 - 94:30where He was bringing the church back
to what we read here in the Bible. -
94:30 - 94:35And I think this is what we need to
build on. This is the time we are living in -
94:35 - 94:42now. And Jesus is not coming back
for a whore, a prostitute. -
94:42 - 94:48He is coming back for a bride,
a holy bride, set aside for Him. -
94:48 - 94:53And I believe that the last time,
what we will see will be strong and stronger -
94:53 - 94:59than what we see in the Book of Acts.
I believe that. Are we there yet? -
94:59 - 95:02Not there yet. Have we seen
beautiful things? Yes, we have. -
95:02 - 95:06Are on the way? Yes, we are.
Are we going to continue until we see it? -
95:06 - 95:11Yes, we are. We love Christ and we want
the world to see what it is -
95:11 - 95:13when people really live with Him.
-
95:13 - 95:17So, God bless you!
Thank you for seeing this very long video. -
95:17 - 95:21And I encourage you to see some of the
videos I'll put in, links, -
95:21 - 95:25together with this video, and see our
online "Pioneer School". -
95:25 - 95:30That is 29 lessons where I help you
to take off the religious glasses, -
95:30 - 95:35to see the full picture, the whole gospel,
and the full picture what it means -
95:35 - 95:40to be a disciple, an apprentice of Christ,
following Him, growing -
95:40 - 95:43and learning to walk like Christ.
God bless you! -
95:43 - 95:48I hope this video help you all
and... Yeah. See you another time. -
95:48 - 95:51See you out there.
