Minecraft Hour of Code: Introduction
-
0:00 - 0:04Hour of Code Minecraft | Introduction
-
0:04 - 0:08Hi, my name is Jens and
I'm the lead creative designer -
0:08 - 0:09of Minecraft.
-
0:09 - 0:13In the next hour, you'll make your own Minecraft
game. -
0:13 - 0:16This looks like Minecraft but the world has
stopped. -
0:16 - 0:21The sheep aren't moving, the chickens aren't
laying eggs, and zombies are just standing -
0:21 - 0:22still.
-
0:22 - 0:26It's up to you to add the code to make the
Minecraft world work. -
0:26 - 0:29My name is Melissa and I am a user researcher
at Minecraft. -
0:29 - 0:32(So do you want them to do all that stuff
forever? -
0:32 - 0:33Yes.)
-
0:33 - 0:37What I'm really interested in is how people
think and interact with technology and so -
0:37 - 0:42this job is the perfect job for me to put
together the computer engineering with the -
0:42 - 0:45psychology: how people think and behave.
-
0:45 - 0:48You'll see your screen is split into three
main parts. -
0:48 - 0:521) On the left is the Minecraft game.
-
0:52 - 0:56Right now the world is frozen but we're going
to fix that with code. -
0:56 - 0:582) This middle area is the toolbox.
-
0:58 - 1:05Each of these blocks is a command that chickens,
sheep, and other Minecraft creatures can understand. -
1:05 - 1:123) The space on the right is called the workspace
and this is where we'll build our program. -
1:12 - 1:17If you forget what to do, the instructions
for each level are at the top. -
1:17 - 1:20To start off, we're going to program a chicken.
-
1:20 - 1:24Let's drag the "move forward" command to the
workspace. -
1:24 - 1:28When I hit "Run" the chicken moves forward
one step. -
1:28 - 1:34To go further, I'll drag another "move forward"
block underneath the first "move forward" -
1:34 - 1:36block until the highlight appears.
-
1:36 - 1:40Then I'll drop it and the two blocks snap
together. -
1:40 - 1:44If I hit "Run" again, the chicken walks two
steps. -
1:44 - 1:49If you ever want to delete a block, just remove
it from the stack and drag it back to the -
1:49 - 1:50toolbox.
-
1:50 - 1:56After you've hit "Run" you can always hit
the "Reset" button to reset the game and start -
1:56 - 1:57over.
-
1:57 - 2:02Now, it's your turn to make your very own
version of Minecraft. -
2:02 - 2:03Have fun!
