For us assessment isn’t something that is in a folder
-
on a filing cabinet, its part of everyday life for the teacher
-
because it informs their planning,
-
it informs the next step of teaching
-
and it also informs the next step of learning.
-
And also key to it is the child’s role because the child has to be part of the assessment process,
-
has to be included from the very very beginning and what we do here is we
-
involve children in self-assessment, peer assessment, they are involved in the learning goals
-
and they are involved at the end of a lesson reflecting on what happened
-
again a very important part of this is the role of feedback,
-
how does the teacher feedback to the children
-
as to what they’re doing and how they're progressing
-
and I suppose once all those steps are in place
-
you get learning, you get purposeful learning,
-
and you get engagement which is what we want.
-
And what we are very excited about with this draft framework
-
it gives teachers and children the time to actually
-
get involved in the assessment process like this
-
and it really reaffirms best practice.
