Namaz mein Ahista aur Buland Awaz mein Qirat ki Hikmat - Javed Ahmed Ghamidi

  • 0:01 - 0:04
The Wisdom behind reciting the Quran
out loud in Salah, and silently
  • 0:04 - 0:06
    [Hassan Ilyas] Ghamidi Saab,
    please tell us,
  • 0:06 - 0:08
    people frequently have this
    question in mind
  • 0:08 - 0:10
    that the Salah we offer
  • 0:10 - 0:13
    everyone understands
    the truth of Salah
  • 0:13 - 0:14
but among the practices of Salah
  • 0:15 - 0:19
    some prayers are recited loudly
  • 0:19 - 0:21
    whereas some are offered silently
  • 0:21 - 0:23
    so the recitation in Salah
  • 0:23 - 0:25
    during jama'ah (congregational prayer)
  • 0:25 - 0:28
    this difference between jahri (loud)
    and sirri (silent) prayers
  • 0:28 - 0:31
is there any reason or wisdom behind it?
  • 0:32 - 0:34
and do address the question of principle
  • 0:34 - 0:37
that by getting into these things
  • 0:37 - 0:39
do we even have access to such a
    point of view
  • 0:39 - 0:41
    from where we can decide
  • 0:41 - 0:43
    the purpose of these things?
  • 0:43 - 0:45
[Javed Ahmed Ghamidi] No, there is no
    issue in talking about this
  • 0:45 - 0:48
It is obvious that anything that
Allah ta'la or Allah's messenger has said
  • 0:48 - 0:49
    it is based on wisdom
  • 0:49 - 0:52
    but some aspects of this
    wisdom are rational
  • 0:52 - 0:53
    some aspects are logical
  • 0:53 - 0:55
    some aspects are sensory,
  • 0:56 - 0:58
    and some aspects are
    related to taste.
  • 0:58 - 1:00
So this is an aesthetic aspect
  • 1:00 - 1:03
that is, usually for a poetic symposium
  • 1:03 - 1:05
    or for a musical gathering
  • 1:06 - 1:08
or if a thing of beauty
    is under discussion
  • 1:08 - 1:11
then for that night-time is preferred
  • 1:12 - 1:16
because the Zuhr and 'Asr prayers
take place during the height of the day
  • 1:16 - 1:18
you are at business or at your job
  • 1:18 - 1:20
and you have to run to your work
  • 1:20 - 1:23
so in this case, the recitation is
    supposed to be done silently
  • 1:23 - 1:25
because night-time is the time of rest
  • 1:25 - 1:28
and in a way, it is a time of quietness
  • 1:28 - 1:32
and only during that time if
something is read in a good voice
  • 1:32 - 1:35
then you listen as well as take pleasure
    from it,
  • 1:35 - 1:37
therefore, in favor of this aesthetic
    aspect
  • 1:37 - 1:41
the recitation of all the prayers during
night-time is supposed to be loud
  • 1:41 - 1:45
    however, when prayers of congregational
nature take place at a grand scale
  • 1:46 - 1:49
    because people come there specially,
    after taking out time
  • 1:49 - 1:52
and they come with the motive to take
    part in a congregational prayer
  • 1:52 - 1:54
and they have to listen to
    the sermons and speeches,
  • 1:54 - 1:56
then during juma'ah and the Eids,
  • 1:56 - 1:57
prayers have to be recited aloud
  • 1:58 - 2:00
so it is done by virtue
    of this aesthetic aspect.
