0:00:01.957,0:00:07.375 Response to 23 Questions Part-66[br]Singing and Music Episode-9 0:00:12.465,0:00:14.396 [Hassan Ilyas] Bismillahir Rahmanir[br]Rahim, As Salam Alaikum. 0:00:14.396,0:00:16.391 Welcome to another Session of[br]'From the Desk of Ghamidi'. 0:00:16.391,0:00:18.574 The series of discussions[br]continues on the 23 Objections. 0:00:18.574,0:00:21.840 We are about to start the[br]66th Episode of that chain. 0:00:21.840,0:00:24.408 The topic of Singing and Music[br]is under discussion. 0:00:24.408,0:00:27.001 And we hereby start [br]the 9th Session on this topic. 0:00:27.001,0:00:28.810 Thank you very much Ghamidi [br]Sahab for your time. 0:00:28.810,0:00:30.652 We begin now. [br]We have been studying the Narrations. 0:00:30.652,0:00:32.897 Although this chain has [br]continued for long. 0:00:32.897,0:00:34.479 There are quite a [br]number of Narrations, 0:00:34.479,0:00:37.240 You have been reading each and every[br]Narration and explaining its occasion, 0:00:37.240,0:00:39.154 backdrop, and their context. 0:00:39.154,0:00:41.338 The applications that [br]have been done by the Prophet (pbuh) 0:00:41.338,0:00:43.656 during his life-time, [br]those have been elaborated too. 0:00:43.656,0:00:46.814 I wish you to carry on with that[br]chain, with an introductory note, 0:00:46.814,0:00:50.339 and which may educate people [br]as well, that such a huge corpus, 0:00:50.339,0:00:53.693 about 26 Narrations, and choosing [br]from hundreds of Narrations, 0:00:53.693,0:00:57.847 you have been presenting those which[br]are on the level of Sahih or Hasan. 0:00:57.847,0:01:00.620 In accumulating these Narrations, [br]the events and circumstances 0:01:00.620,0:01:03.196 in the life of the Prophet (pbuh),[br]his comments and the tradition 0:01:03.196,0:01:04.990 of the knowledge and actions[br]of the Prophet (pbuh) 0:01:04.990,0:01:07.128 to even compile them [br]and convey those to us, 0:01:07.128,0:01:09.015 ( although today we easily read them) 0:01:09.015,0:01:12.189 however, it comprises centuries of [br]efforts and a constant struggle. 0:01:12.189,0:01:13.696 It is also a favour of our elders 0:01:13.696,0:01:16.769 that all these applications made by the [br]Prophet (pbuh) were made to reach us. 0:01:16.769,0:01:19.426 Which made it possible for us[br]to apply the principled guidance of Deen 0:01:19.426,0:01:22.204 and tell us as to how the [br]Prophet himself had understood it? 0:01:22.204,0:01:24.703 Hence at the start, [br]you may also explain to us 0:01:24.703,0:01:27.908 what a great blessing this in itself is [br]with regard to the Deen 0:01:27.908,0:01:31.054 that we maintain equilibrium and[br]stand on its right understanding. 0:01:31.054,0:01:33.494 How beautifully do [br]the Narrations teach this to us! 0:01:33.494,0:01:35.912 [Javed Ahmed Ghamidi] What [br]doubt is there in it?! 0:01:35.912,0:01:41.690 You imagine an era where there[br]are no contemporary historian. 0:01:41.690,0:01:46.647 In today's age, there are[br]incidences, personalities are born. 0:01:46.647,0:01:52.629 A lot of information regarding them [br]gets automatically recorded. 0:01:52.629,0:01:55.137 The newspapers get published,[br]now we have the radio, 0:01:55.137,0:02:01.794 television and presently, social media,[br]and similar means record a lot of things. 0:02:01.794,0:02:05.893 However, in that era, when[br]nothing of this kind existed, 0:02:05.893,0:02:08.246 and there wasn't even [br]a contemporary historian. 0:02:08.246,0:02:12.260 For about one and a half-century[br]we do not find any trace 0:02:12.260,0:02:14.396 of a contemporary [br]Historian among us. 0:02:14.396,0:02:18.082 These Narrations, which implies[br]the statements of people, 0:02:18.082,0:02:22.078 where this aspect is there that[br]obviously, these are not History, 0:02:22.078,0:02:25.257 these are raw-material for history.[br]Another aspect of it is, 0:02:25.257,0:02:29.273 had these not been there, then we would[br]have been deprived of a huge blessing. 0:02:29.273,0:02:33.648 Hence it is a great favour of people, [br]that they met the Prophet (pbuh,) 0:02:33.648,0:02:36.937 heard things from him, [br]transmitted those further, 0:02:36.937,0:02:40.376 and then whoever heard from them[br]they again transmitted those. 0:02:40.376,0:02:44.994 Hence all this material came forth in [br]the first century and a half. 0:02:44.994,0:02:49.850 And then those people who[br]felt that there is some distortion 0:02:49.850,0:02:52.593 also being done by people,[br]there are at times 0:02:52.593,0:02:56.249 by disregarding the context and backdrop, [br]the point made is completely lost. 0:02:56.249,0:02:58.573 The people are even making [br]use of lies in them, 0:02:58.573,0:03:02.080 and contaminating them as well. [br]Giving their own orientation to things. 0:03:02.080,0:03:08.253 Then such great people were born who [br]made an everlasting favor to this Ummah, 0:03:08.253,0:03:12.387 that they carried out the work [br]of their investigation and inquiry. 0:03:12.387,0:03:16.852 Its principles were ascertained. They went[br]deep into this historical record, 0:03:16.852,0:03:20.379 even to the point that today[br]we are in a position 0:03:20.379,0:03:23.234 in the 21st Century that keeping [br]their work in front of us, 0:03:23.234,0:03:25.653 {as regards their attribution to the[br]Prophet pbuh) 0:03:25.653,0:03:29.453 we are able to tell a few things to[br]the people that these qualify 0:03:29.453,0:03:32.039 to the level of Hasan and Sahih. 0:03:32.039,0:03:35.999 Otherwise, whatever we get [br]written in books, 0:03:35.999,0:03:42.283 if we put all of it in front of people, [br]then we will be amazed at their themes, 0:03:42.283,0:03:48.915 the stories and tales that abound in them,[br]political affairs, and other prejudices. 0:03:48.915,0:03:50.918 A person is totally perplexed. 0:03:50.918,0:03:54.060 This has been a huge work done[br]by Muhaddeseen (Scholars of Hadees) 0:03:54.060,0:03:56.796 and this work should always[br]be appreciated to the fullest. 0:03:56.796,0:03:58.638 [Hassan] Right, Ghamidi Sahab, [br]this point is clear too, 0:03:58.638,0:04:00.697 and the significance of this knowledge [br]that has been highlighted by you as well. 0:04:00.697,0:04:04.129 I wish that you connect your discussion [br]to the point where we had left it. 0:04:04.129,0:04:07.098 We are learning about the Narrations[br]with reference to Singing and Music. 0:04:07.098,0:04:09.849 Those sayings that have reached us[br]with attribution to the Prophet (pbuh). 0:04:09.849,0:04:13.595 What does the Corpus of Hadees further[br]hold with regard to Singing and Music? 0:04:13.595,0:04:16.162 [Ghamidi] We have read[br]22 Narrations till now. 0:04:16.162,0:04:19.449 Now I am presenting [br]to you the 23rd Narration. 0:04:19.449,0:04:26.608 Its text is originally taken from [br]Sahih Bukhari, and its number is 3034. 0:04:26.608,0:04:31.516 Baraa Bin Aazim R.A. reports that [br]on the day of Khandaq, 0:04:31.516,0:04:35.117 I saw the Prophet (pbuh) [br]digging the earth, 0:04:35.117,0:04:38.760 and lifting and carrying[br]it along, just like other people. 0:04:38.760,0:04:42.060 Baraa Bin Aazim is [br]a renowned Sahabi. 0:04:42.060,0:04:44.678 During the time of the Battle [br]of Khandaq 0:04:44.678,0:04:48.414 when the Prophet (pbuh) had been [br]toiling as had been the Sahaba, 0:04:48.414,0:04:50.648 he is narrating an incident from [br]that time. 0:04:50.648,0:04:54.171 I saw the Prophet (pbuh)[br]digging the earth, 0:04:54.171,0:04:57.942 lifting and carrying it along, just like[br]other people. 0:04:57.942,0:05:02.789 To the extent that the hair on the [br]Prophet's chest was covered by that soil. 0:05:02.789,0:05:04.601 [Hassan] Okay.[br][Ghamidi] And there was 0:05:04.601,0:05:08.186 a lot of hair on his body.[br]The Prophet at that moment 0:05:08.186,0:05:10.693 was reading the 'Rajas' [br]of Abdullah Bin Rawaha. 0:05:10.693,0:05:13.973 And he was saying the words,[br]"O Allah had your blessing 0:05:13.973,0:05:16.577 not been there, we wouldn't[br]have had the Guidance. 0:05:16.577,0:05:19.439 Neither would have done[br]charity nor offered Salah. 0:05:19.439,0:05:22.856 So now reveal Peace upon us, [br]and in the event 0:05:22.856,0:05:26.921 of an encounter with the enemy,[br]then bestow us with steadfastness. 0:05:26.921,0:05:30.096 What is the doubt in the fact[br]that the enemies have attacked us, 0:05:30.096,0:05:33.725 if they would wish for mischief [br]then we would resist them too. 0:05:33.725,0:05:36.896 Undoubtedly the enemies [br]have attacked us, 0:05:36.896,0:05:40.795 when they would wish mischief[br]then we will confront and challenge them. 0:05:40.795,0:05:45.798 Then the Prophet (pbuh) declared [br]the words, "Abaina" 0:05:45.798,0:05:47.858 Then the Prophet (pbuh) cried out[br]'Abaina', 0:05:47.858,0:05:50.243 'that we too will confront [br]and challenge them', 0:05:50.243,0:05:55.846 he kept on repeating it loudly.[br]The original words are, 0:05:55.846,0:05:59.886 "Allahumma Laula Anta [br]Mahtadaina Wala Tasaddaqna 0:05:59.886,0:06:05.402 Wala Sallaina Anzalan Sakinatan[br]Alaina Wa Sabbit al-Aqdaama 0:06:05.402,0:06:11.708 Illa Kaina Innal Azaaqad Baghau [br]Alaina Iza Aradu Fitnatan Abaina" 0:06:11.708,0:06:14.379 This is that 'Abaina' regarding [br]which he said, 0:06:14.379,0:06:17.659 and the Prophet (pbuh) [br]was repeating 'Abaina, Abaina' 0:06:17.659,0:06:21.108 Yarfau Biha Sautahu, [br]i.e. he was repeating 0:06:21.108,0:06:24.439 this word again and again [br]and his voice was getting louder. 0:06:24.439,0:06:28.710 i.e. this Rajas was read by [br]the Prophet (pbuh) himself. 0:06:28.710,0:06:31.398 i.e. such words which we [br]hear from the Sahaba. 0:06:31.398,0:06:34.240 or which he used to read[br]on different occasions, 0:06:34.240,0:06:36.824 or earlier we saw that[br]Hudi used to be sung. 0:06:36.824,0:06:41.242 So it wasn't just that the Prophet (pbuh) [br]had advised for these kinds of things. 0:06:41.242,0:06:44.730 It wasn't just that the Sahaba [br]sang it in front of the Prophet (pbuh), 0:06:44.730,0:06:46.669 and the Prophet (pbuh) [br]had approved it, 0:06:46.669,0:06:51.887 rather at times, the Prophet himself [br]recited such 'Rajas' or couplets. 0:06:51.887,0:06:53.982 And this Narration[br]portrays to us 0:06:53.982,0:06:57.026 a very beautiful and [br]heart-warming picture of it. 0:06:57.026,0:07:01.744 Following this is the Narration, [br]about which you should be aware 0:07:01.744,0:07:04.745 that it is from Sahih Muslim,[br]in essence, from Sahih Muslim. 0:07:04.745,0:07:09.817 When I say, 'in essence', it implies [br]that its text is from Sahih Muslim, 0:07:09.817,0:07:13.739 and in some places there has been some[br]additions as well from some other sources. 0:07:13.739,0:07:15.959 And those comply [br]with the same standards too 0:07:15.959,0:07:19.195 or are found in other places[br]which are related to it. 0:07:19.195,0:07:21.863 It is then that they are taken.[br][Hassan] i.e. the incident is the same. 0:07:21.863,0:07:23.337 [Ghamidi] It is the same incident. 0:07:23.337,0:07:25.916 The text of this Narration is,[br]in essence, from Sahih Muslim, 0:07:25.916,0:07:27.757 and its number is 1802. 0:07:27.757,0:07:32.946 See here, it is reported by[br]Salma Bin Aqwa, he states, 0:07:32.946,0:07:36.776 "Accompanied by the Prophet (pbuh)[br]we set out for Khyber. 0:07:36.776,0:07:39.440 i.e. this incident is about a journey. 0:07:39.440,0:07:42.432 It is reported by Salma Bin Aqwa, [br]he states, 0:07:42.432,0:07:46.704 "Accompanied by the Prophet (pbuh)[br]we set out for Khyber". 0:07:46.704,0:07:53.006 It was a night journey, a person among[br]the people said to Amir Bin Aqwa, 0:07:53.006,0:07:57.906 "Amir, won't you [br]recite some couplets of yours?" 0:07:57.906,0:08:01.642 Obviously, this taste also existed,[br]Sahaba used to request for these things. 0:08:01.642,0:08:05.943 At times we need a [br]pastime for journeys. 0:08:05.943,0:08:10.844 Or to rid its ennui or boredom, [br]or wish to keep alive some interest in it. 0:08:10.844,0:08:13.730 so we sing too, [br]poetry is also recited. 0:08:13.730,0:08:16.702 Obviously, these are the different[br]aspects of human life. 0:08:16.702,0:08:19.697 And with this variety in[br]life, comes its beauty. 0:08:19.697,0:08:21.414 So he said this. 0:08:21.414,0:08:24.481 A person among[br]the people said to Amir Bin Aqwa 0:08:24.481,0:08:27.718 "Amir, won't you[br]recite some couplets of yours?" 0:08:27.718,0:08:32.731 Amir R.A. used to write poetry.[br]i.e. in the times of the Prophet (pbuh) 0:08:32.731,0:08:36.039 or among the Sahaba (Companions) [br]of the Prophet (pbuh), 0:08:36.039,0:08:39.500 among those, everybody knows [br]about Hassan Bin Sabit. 0:08:39.500,0:08:42.240 People are also aware of the name[br]of Abdullah bin Rawaha. 0:08:42.240,0:08:45.650 There are some more poets whose [br]names are mentioned in the Narrations. 0:08:45.650,0:08:49.353 He was one among those.[br]Amir R.A. used to write poetry. 0:08:49.353,0:08:51.894 Therefore, he alighted[br]from his ride, 0:08:51.894,0:08:54.795 i.e. on the request from the people,[br]alighted the ride, 0:08:54.795,0:08:57.783 and started to sing [br]'Hudi' for the people. 0:08:57.783,0:09:00.921 There, generally, the[br]methodology used to be this. 0:09:00.921,0:09:04.408 i.e. on alighting, a rein of[br]a she-camel would be held, and 0:09:04.408,0:09:08.903 the person would keep walking like the way[br]a cameleer walks, and sing Hudi, 0:09:08.903,0:09:10.526 or the couplets would be sung. 0:09:10.526,0:09:12.779 So this was the common[br]way among the Arabs. 0:09:12.779,0:09:16.518 The Prophet (pbuh) was present and Amir[br]was reciting 0:09:16.518,0:09:19.718 'Rajziya' couplets in front of his Sahaba, 0:09:19.718,0:09:24.949 and speeding up the rides.[br]On that occasion, he was saying, 0:09:24.949,0:09:28.757 "O Allah had you not Blessed us, [br]we would have been deprived of Guidance. 0:09:28.757,0:09:31.709 Neither we would have performed [br]Salah nor would have given Zakah. 0:09:31.709,0:09:35.352 The people who have attacked us[br]if they create mischief, 0:09:35.352,0:09:36.876 then we too would resist them. 0:09:36.876,0:09:40.926 However, we would always [br]be in need of your Guidance. 0:09:40.926,0:09:44.399 We sacrifice our lives for you.[br]Hence, excuse us for the sins that 0:09:44.399,0:09:48.421 have been committed by us,[br]keep us steadfast in times 0:09:48.421,0:09:53.760 of encountering the enemies [br]and reveal peace upon us. 0:09:53.760,0:09:56.664 We are the ones [br]who respond to call. 0:09:56.664,0:10:02.530 People have called us, for the [br]reason that they have trusted upon us". 0:10:02.530,0:10:03.697 The original words are, 0:10:03.697,0:10:08.102 "Allah Humma Laula Anta an Mahtadaina [br]Wala Tasaddaqna Wala Sallaina 0:10:08.102,0:10:13.096 Innal Lazeena Qad Baghau Alaina [br]Iza Araadu Fitnatan abaina 0:10:13.096,0:10:19.098 Wa Nahnu An Fazlika Mastaghnaina [br]Faghfir Fidaa al-laka Mak Tafaina 0:10:19.098,0:10:24.920 Wassabitil Aqdaama inl aakaina[br]Wa Al Kayan Sakiinatan Alaina 0:10:24.920,0:10:30.597 Inna Iza Seeha Bina Aataina[br]Wa Bis Siahi Awwalu Walaina" 0:10:30.597,0:10:34.693 So these are the lines of[br]the poem, which he was singing. 0:10:34.693,0:10:37.777 When the Prophet (pbuh)[br]heard these couplets he asked, 0:10:37.777,0:10:41.215 "Who is he who is making [br]the camel's race like this?" 0:10:41.215,0:10:43.252 i.e. these couplets used to be sung. 0:10:43.252,0:10:45.570 There would be an environment[br]created out of it. 0:10:45.570,0:10:48.648 The people would hear them, and [br]get entertained by them as well. 0:10:48.648,0:10:52.578 And the animals too would [br]start racing as a result of it. 0:10:52.578,0:10:55.765 "Who is he who is making [br]the camel's race like this?" 0:10:55.765,0:10:57.880 The Sahaba said,[br]"It is Amir". 0:10:57.880,0:11:00.916 The Prophet (pbuh) said,[br]"May Allah have Mercy on him". 0:11:00.916,0:11:02.604 Hearing this a person said, 0:11:02.604,0:11:05.786 "O Messenger of Allah, now the[br]Mercy has become compulsory!" 0:11:05.786,0:11:08.935 This incident has been[br]stated earlier in brevity. 0:11:08.935,0:11:12.486 In different Narrations obviously since[br]different people state it, 0:11:12.486,0:11:14.994 Hence some details vary.[br]These were the couplets, 0:11:14.994,0:11:19.529 a part of which, we saw, [br]was read by the Prophet (pbuh) himself. 0:11:19.529,0:11:22.886 With this, we can guess, that these[br]couplets had become quite popular. 0:11:22.886,0:11:25.479 And many people[br]use to recite them. 0:11:25.479,0:11:27.168 I have a note on it, 0:11:27.168,0:11:31.100 "It is the appreciation of the subject[br]stated in the couplets of Amir R.A. 0:11:31.100,0:11:34.723 " i.e. when it was stated[br]"May Allah have Mercy" on him. 0:11:34.723,0:11:38.813 It is not just a Dua, rather an[br]appreciation is also included in it. 0:11:38.813,0:11:41.242 An aspect of[br]"How beautiful the couplets are". 0:11:41.242,0:11:45.141 "Read at an opportune time", [br]and "delivered in style". 0:11:45.141,0:11:48.761 Hence a part of it was [br]read by the Prophet (pbuh) himself, 0:11:48.761,0:11:54.436 and when it was read in this manner,[br]the Prophet (pbuh) praised them as well. 0:11:54.436,0:11:56.950 Now, I am presenting to you [br]the 25th Narration. 0:11:56.950,0:11:59.220 It is a lengthy Narration. 0:11:59.220,0:12:03.910 This too has been taken by us[br]from Sahih Muslim, 0:12:03.910,0:12:09.778 i.e. its text is basically from Sahih[br]Muslim and its number is 1802. 0:12:09.778,0:12:12.997 [Hassan] Right.[br][Ghamidi] The same Salma Bin Aqwa R.A. 0:12:12.997,0:12:15.826 reports, he says,[br]"On the day of the Battle of Khyber, 0:12:15.826,0:12:22.530 my brother Amir fought a tough[br]fight along with the Prophet (pbuh). 0:12:22.530,0:12:25.014 However, at one point in time[br]it happened that 0:12:25.014,0:12:29.053 he hit himself with his own sword,[br]with which he was martyred. 0:12:29.053,0:12:35.094 The Sahaba of the Prophet (pbuh) began[br]making frivolous comments on this incident 0:12:35.094,0:12:37.675 They had a doubt about[br]his martyrdom. 0:12:37.675,0:12:44.996 Since he had died[br]by his own weapon. 0:12:44.996,0:12:47.517 i.e. what aspect was it?[br]He took part in the battle. 0:12:47.517,0:12:51.131 He was by the side of the Prophet (pbuh).[br]He was appreciated for his courage. 0:12:51.131,0:12:55.450 However, he was hit with his own [br]sword and he departed from the world. 0:12:55.450,0:12:58.329 So people started to make [br]unnecessary comments on this. 0:12:58.329,0:13:01.460 They doubted on his martyrdom, 0:13:01.460,0:13:04.746 as he had died because[br]of his own weapon, 0:13:04.746,0:13:09.443 and they were casting doubts [br]about his other affairs too. 0:13:09.443,0:13:14.015 i.e. the debate began whether [br]it was martyrdom or a suicide? 0:13:14.015,0:13:15.715 What is the situation? 0:13:15.715,0:13:22.182 Salma states that after the [br]Prophet (pbuh) returned from Khyber, 0:13:22.182,0:13:25.319 So on the way, I asked him [br]"O the Messenger of Allah, 0:13:25.319,0:13:30.148 if you permit me then I will recite [br]some 'Rajziya' couplets to you. 0:13:30.148,0:13:33.599 When the Prophet (pbuh) allowed him[br]then Umar Bin Khattab R.A. said, 0:13:33.599,0:13:37.055 "Salma whatever you say, you must do so[br]after due reflection.' 0:13:37.055,0:13:42.054 i.e. it was a warning from him,[br]that you are seeking permission 0:13:42.054,0:13:44.871 from the Prophet (pbuh). [br]These couplets will be recited 0:13:44.871,0:13:48.690 in the holy presence of the[br]Prophet (pbuh), then be careful, 0:13:48.690,0:13:53.520 there shouldn't be any content, which[br]offends the nature of the Prophet. 0:13:53.520,0:13:56.998 When the Prophet (pbuh)[br]allowed him then Umar R.A. said, 0:13:56.998,0:14:00.090 "Salma what ever you say[br]should be after due consideration". 0:14:00.090,0:14:03.199 Hence I recited these couplets,[br]"By Allah, had His Blessings 0:14:03.199,0:14:05.928 not been there, we would neither [br]have had His Guidance 0:14:05.928,0:14:08.208 nor offered Salah[br]or given Zakah". 0:14:08.208,0:14:11.382 The same couplets. [br]When the Prophet listened to this 0:14:11.382,0:14:17.158 he said, "True". He read further, [br]"Reveal Peace upon us 0:14:17.158,0:14:19.249 and in case of an encounter[br]with the enemy, 0:14:19.249,0:14:23.409 keep us steadfast, the Mushrikeen [br](Polytheists) have attacked us. 0:14:23.409,0:14:27.710 They demanded 'disbelief' from us, [br]like they had done. 0:14:27.710,0:14:32.798 However, we declined their[br]demand, there is no doubt that 0:14:32.798,0:14:36.746 the people who have attacked us [br]when they would create mischief, 0:14:36.746,0:14:40.002 we would confront them too". [br]These couplets have been read earlier 0:14:40.002,0:14:42.170 and I am reading [br]just their translation. 0:14:42.170,0:14:45.606 Salma told us that when he was[br]done with the reading of this 'Rajas', 0:14:45.606,0:14:48.929 then the Prophet asked him[br]"Whose couplets are these?" 0:14:48.929,0:14:53.518 I said, "These couplets were sung[br]by my brother Amir R.A." 0:14:53.518,0:14:57.573 The Prophet (pbuh) stated, [br]"May Allah have Mercy on him". 0:14:57.573,0:15:02.100 Salma says that I said, [br]"O Messenger of Allah, 0:15:02.100,0:15:06.481 some people had been hesitant [br]even to offer his funeral Salah!" 0:15:06.481,0:15:11.305 They opined that this is [br]a person killed by his own weapon. 0:15:11.305,0:15:13.945 When the Prophet (pbuh) [br]listened to this point from me, 0:15:13.945,0:15:18.796 he said, "People are absolutely wrong,[br]rather he was a true 'Mujahid', 0:15:18.796,0:15:23.252 and has attained martyrdom [br]fighting in the path of Allah. 0:15:23.252,0:15:25.586 Hence there is [br]double reward for him, 0:15:25.586,0:15:30.187 and while saying this the Prophet (pbuh) [br]also gestured with his two fingers. 0:15:30.187,0:15:32.220 Hence here too[br]the same topic is there. 0:15:32.220,0:15:34.910 i.e. in all three there[br]is just the same point, 0:15:34.910,0:15:39.370 i.e. the Prophet (pbuh) requested[br]to recite some 'Rajzia' couplets, 0:15:39.370,0:15:41.864 on an occasion he read[br]a part of it himself, 0:15:41.864,0:15:44.340 on some occasions, [br]the request was made, 0:15:44.340,0:15:47.524 so the Prophet not only listened to them,[br]rather, after its recital, 0:15:47.524,0:15:49.682 he even delivered words [br]of appreciation too. 0:15:49.682,0:15:51.790 [Hassan] Right.[br][Ghamidi] I presented these 0:15:51.790,0:15:53.952 Narrations to you. [br]Now I will, in this chain, 0:15:53.952,0:15:55.743 present to you[br]the last Narration. 0:15:55.743,0:15:58.169 This is the most important[br]Narration of this chain. 0:15:58.169,0:16:00.466 [Hassan] Okay, from which aspect?[br][Ghamidi] The points 0:16:00.466,0:16:03.184 that have come under discussion[br]in these narrations, 0:16:03.184,0:16:06.111 we learned various realities [br]in their different aspects. 0:16:06.111,0:16:11.507 We learned that the Prophet (pbuh) [br]was himself listening to these. 0:16:11.507,0:16:15.131 Was making others listen to it. At times[br]he himself provided an instrument 0:16:15.131,0:16:17.129 by providing a 'salver' (or platter). 0:16:17.129,0:16:20.330 At times it is only Singing [br]which has been mentioned. 0:16:20.330,0:16:22.651 Similarly, we looked into [br]their intricacies. 0:16:22.651,0:16:25.145 We tried to understand them, if some[br]comments are made 0:16:25.145,0:16:27.503 in them, and their context.[br]However, in all these, 0:16:27.503,0:16:29.962 what had been the point [br]which is under discussion? 0:16:29.962,0:16:32.899 It is the same premise which[br]I had said at the beginning, 0:16:32.899,0:16:39.454 that all the Fine Arts, i.e. Singing [br]and Music, Poetry, Painting, 0:16:39.454,0:16:43.700 all of the Fine Arts, in essence,[br]are completely Permissible. 0:16:43.700,0:16:46.550 These are adornment and[br]beautifications created by Allah. 0:16:46.550,0:16:50.339 Nothing among them should be[br]declared unconditionally forbidden. 0:16:50.339,0:16:55.709 It is their use or in some cases [br]ocassions of their overuse, 0:16:55.709,0:16:59.984 which at times are made[br]the targets of criticism. 0:16:59.984,0:17:04.953 The fundamental argument is not [br]just captured by this Narration, 0:17:04.953,0:17:09.314 rather it states them explicity in words.[br]Hence, I had kept it for the last 0:17:09.314,0:17:11.468 that I will read it to you. 0:17:11.468,0:17:14.399 We have taken this Narration from[br]Sahih Ibn-e Habban 0:17:14.399,0:17:17.020 We have taken this Narration [br]from Sahih Ibn-e Habban 0:17:17.020,0:17:20.020 and its number is 6272. 0:17:20.020,0:17:24.130 The Narration is, Syedna Ali R.A. reports, 0:17:24.130,0:17:27.961 "I have heard the [br]Prophet (pbuh) saying, 0:17:27.961,0:17:31.927 "I had never intended to commit[br]any of the vices 0:17:31.927,0:17:35.340 in which the people[br]of the pagan age indulged in". 0:17:35.340,0:17:36.930 [Hassan] Okay.[br][Ghamidi] The word 0:17:36.930,0:17:40.299 that should be pondered[br]upon is, "Indulgence in vices". 0:17:40.299,0:17:45.011 Obviously, what had been those [br]vices will be made clear further ahead. 0:17:45.011,0:17:49.053 i.e. from it the Prophet (pbuh) [br]himself is stating, 0:17:49.053,0:17:53.129 that so and so is a vice. [br]The word itself is telling that 0:17:53.129,0:17:57.029 the Prophet (pbuh) is about[br]to mention the name of some vice. 0:17:57.029,0:18:00.068 Hence the original Arabic words [br]of this are, 0:18:00.068,0:18:06.152 "Ma Hamamtu Bi Qabihim Mimma [br]Yahummu Bi Ahlul Jahiliya" 0:18:06.152,0:18:09.415 "I have never intended to commit[br]any of the vices that 0:18:09.415,0:18:13.299 the people of the pagan age indulged in".[br]I have drawn attention for the reason 0:18:13.299,0:18:15.286 that the point that[br]will be stated ahead, 0:18:15.286,0:18:18.517 and when he will enumerate[br]the vices that they indulged in 0:18:18.517,0:18:21.480 then obviously there are[br]a lot of vices that could be there. 0:18:21.480,0:18:26.023 Many people were adulterous, stole too, [br]were dacoits and burglars as well. 0:18:26.023,0:18:27.882 Would bully the travelers too. 0:18:27.882,0:18:30.287 What are the vices that [br]are under discussion here? 0:18:30.287,0:18:33.222 And when the Prophet (pbuh)[br]is pronouncing them as vices, 0:18:33.222,0:18:39.139 then it becomes absolutely clear [br]that those really are vices. 0:18:39.139,0:18:41.424 "Vices indulged by the people [br]of the pagan age". 0:18:41.424,0:18:44.375 "I have never ever intended [br]for any of those vices" 0:18:44.375,0:18:46.676 i.e. the Prophet (pbuh) [br]said this about himself. 0:18:46.676,0:18:50.791 That all the vices that you hear of,[br]whether it is Shirk, or Adultery, 0:18:50.791,0:18:55.226 or it is drinking alcohol, I never [br]ever intended any such thing. 0:18:55.226,0:18:59.435 i.e. the Prophet (pbuh) had spent[br]this pure life even before Prophethood. 0:18:59.435,0:19:01.275 He is narrating [br]incidents about that. 0:19:01.275,0:19:04.039 "I had never intended[br]any of the vices that 0:19:04.039,0:19:06.148 the people of the [br]pagan age indulged in". 0:19:06.148,0:19:08.560 Except on two occasions. 0:19:08.560,0:19:11.534 i.e. the exception has been stated by[br]the Prophet that 0:19:11.534,0:19:14.740 on two occasions, [br]there had been an inclination. 0:19:14.740,0:19:17.700 And on both the occasions[br]Allah (swt) safeguarded me. 0:19:17.700,0:19:20.637 [Hassan] Subhanallah![br][Ghamidi] Now you make a note 0:19:20.637,0:19:23.415 of this sentence.[br]i.e. the Prophet (pbuh) is stating, 0:19:23.415,0:19:27.717 "Never have I intended for any vice", [br]and which vices are these? 0:19:27.717,0:19:31.483 Those vices in which the [br]people indulged in the pagan ages. 0:19:31.483,0:19:34.692 After that, the exception has been stated[br]that on two occasions, 0:19:34.692,0:19:38.131 the intention did develop.[br]And along with was elaborated 0:19:38.131,0:19:42.726 that just the intention developed, [br]Allah (swt) protected me from it! 0:19:42.726,0:19:45.463 How did Allah (swt) safeguard him? 0:19:45.463,0:19:48.146 Obviously, if the intention[br]grew for a vice, 0:19:48.146,0:19:50.118 then the vice got defined. 0:19:50.118,0:19:53.630 Right in the language of the [br]last Messenger of Allah himself, 0:19:53.630,0:19:57.299 it was known that a[br]particular act is a vice, 0:19:57.299,0:20:00.514 and when it was stated [br]that Allah (swt) safeguarded me, 0:20:00.514,0:20:04.283 then it implied that the means [br]through which the protection was done, 0:20:04.283,0:20:07.398 not only will we see that that particular[br]thing was Permissible, 0:20:07.398,0:20:10.937 not only that the act will be placed [br]at the point of appreciation, 0:20:10.937,0:20:13.344 and will be brought[br]under discussion here. 0:20:13.344,0:20:16.310 This complete point would[br]be clear that this is the act 0:20:16.310,0:20:20.081 by which Allah (swt) protected it. [br]And in this manner, 0:20:20.081,0:20:24.667 as I have stated earlier that[br]from the response of the Prophet (pbuh) 0:20:24.667,0:20:27.203 it would become clear, as to[br]how to see such matters 0:20:27.203,0:20:29.566 and from which angle it [br]should be looked upon? 0:20:29.566,0:20:31.017 [Hassan] A very[br]important point. 0:20:31.017,0:20:34.249 [Ghamidi] It was said, that [br]the story of the first instant is this. 0:20:34.249,0:20:38.669 i.e. twice had there been a temptation.[br]Hence the story of the first one is, 0:20:38.669,0:20:41.730 "I was with a Quraishi young man" 0:20:41.730,0:20:47.491 We were grazing goats of our[br]family in the elevated valleys of Makkah. 0:20:47.491,0:20:49.841 This is the period of youth. 0:20:49.841,0:20:51.865 Hence the story of the first one is, 0:20:51.865,0:20:54.334 "I was along with[br]a Quraishi young man" 0:20:54.334,0:20:59.910 We were grazing goats of our[br]family in the elevated valleys of Makkah. 0:20:59.910,0:21:04.284 I told my colleague to [br]take care of my goats. 0:21:04.284,0:21:11.708 So that I spend the night today in [br]Makkah, the way our young men do. 0:21:11.708,0:21:14.232 [Hassan] Okay.[br]The way our young men do. 0:21:14.232,0:21:16.104 So what is meant by it? 0:21:16.104,0:21:20.885 Those who are aware of the[br]Arabic poetry or literature, 0:21:20.885,0:21:22.803 are aware of the history[br]of the Arabs, 0:21:22.803,0:21:25.079 especially the history [br]of the pagan Arabs, 0:21:25.079,0:21:30.882 they are aware that with it, is meant [br]those night parties of pagan Arabia 0:21:30.882,0:21:34.562 which were quite [br]common in that era. 0:21:34.562,0:21:37.596 i.e. when the people used to get[br]leisure at night, 0:21:37.596,0:21:40.775 so a night party used [br]to be organized. 0:21:40.775,0:21:45.177 This happens even nowadays.[br]The moment the friends get together, 0:21:45.177,0:21:48.196 there are certain specific [br]places for such parties. 0:21:48.196,0:21:50.766 We are aware that they [br]have their different names 0:21:50.766,0:21:52.773 in different cultures and societies. 0:21:52.773,0:21:56.576 We have an extreme form[br]of them like the nightclubs. 0:21:56.576,0:22:00.561 Or people go and sit in the pubs.[br]Or they go into some other gatherings. 0:22:00.561,0:22:03.789 Hence among the Arabs too,[br]there used to be night parties, 0:22:03.789,0:22:06.873 and what would[br]the people do sitting there? 0:22:06.873,0:22:09.516 That was quite prevalent[br]in that age 0:22:09.516,0:22:12.015 and where the people would [br]sit and listen to singing 0:22:12.015,0:22:14.210 and music being played,[br]or enjoy storytelling. 0:22:14.210,0:22:16.318 i.e. they used to be young,[br]and you are aware 0:22:16.318,0:22:19.417 what type of songs would [br]these young men listen to? 0:22:19.417,0:22:21.696 What would be the[br]type of their conversation? 0:22:21.696,0:22:25.206 Among them, at times, the [br]slave-girls would also dance. 0:22:25.206,0:22:27.981 In the same way, such talks [br]would also occur, 0:22:27.981,0:22:33.000 which possibly won't [br]be liked by any gentleman. 0:22:33.000,0:22:36.259 Even in the villages, [br]such parties are organized. 0:22:36.259,0:22:38.243 so this had existed[br]even among the Arabs. 0:22:38.243,0:22:41.806 This was interpreted as a [br]vice by the Prophet (pbuh). 0:22:41.806,0:22:44.648 [Hassan] Okay.[br][Ghamidi] i.e. sitting like this, 0:22:44.648,0:22:49.714 narrating mythological tales,[br]to sit and recount baseless stories. 0:22:49.714,0:22:52.721 To be in such company and [br]sing and play music, 0:22:52.721,0:22:55.954 and the absurd talks and[br]vulgarity practiced in it, 0:22:55.954,0:22:58.184 just imagine all those things. 0:22:58.184,0:23:01.839 So this was the vice declared [br]by the Prophet (pbuh) 0:23:01.839,0:23:05.890 which was intentioned by him.[br]With this is implied those night parties 0:23:05.890,0:23:09.234 of the pagan Arabs which were quite[br]prevalent in those times, 0:23:09.234,0:23:12.164 and in which people would[br]sit to hear songs and music 0:23:12.164,0:23:15.552 as well as stories and tales.[br]In the pagan poetry 0:23:15.552,0:23:20.184 pictures of such parties could [br]be seen at multiple places. 0:23:20.184,0:23:26.818 The Prophet (pbuh) says that[br]during the time of his youth, 0:23:26.818,0:23:30.282 he intended to attend such a party.[br]Since the Prophet (pbuh) has stated, 0:23:30.282,0:23:34.082 the vices which the people used to [br]indulge in during the pagan times, 0:23:34.082,0:23:36.537 so this too was a vice [br]among those vices. 0:23:36.537,0:23:39.972 Hence it became clear that [br]since this party would constitute 0:23:39.972,0:23:43.504 of music and song or if there[br]used to be the storytelling 0:23:43.504,0:23:48.613 or non-sensical talks, so all [br]these constituted the vices 0:23:48.613,0:23:51.297 as interpreted[br]by the Prophet (pbuh). 0:23:51.297,0:23:54.203 [Hassan] Absolutely right.[br][Ghamidi] I said to my colleague, 0:23:54.203,0:23:57.454 take care of my goats, so [br]that I too spend tonight in Makkah 0:23:57.454,0:24:02.150 in the same way, as our youth spend.[br]This too was made clear, 0:24:02.150,0:24:05.118 that these parties mostly [br]were attended by the youth. 0:24:05.118,0:24:06.914 They would come to these gatherings 0:24:06.914,0:24:10.414 and would indulge in absurdities[br]and nonsensical talks. 0:24:10.414,0:24:13.341 He said, "it's okay", [br]i.e. he is a companion, 0:24:13.341,0:24:15.940 so handing him over his goats, [br]the Prophet was going. 0:24:15.940,0:24:18.486 He said, "Okay", [br]Hence I set out with this intention. 0:24:18.486,0:24:23.045 i.e. this was the vice for which[br]the Prophet said that he intended for. 0:24:23.045,0:24:26.639 I wished to attend that. I too[br]become an attendee of that party. 0:24:26.639,0:24:30.872 Hence, I set out with this intention, [br]then when I reached the point 0:24:30.872,0:24:33.319 from where the houses [br]of Makkah began. 0:24:33.319,0:24:37.809 i.e. this party was inside the [br]town of Makkah somewhere. 0:24:37.809,0:24:41.935 However, he had been grazing goats [br]in the elevated region outside of Makkah. 0:24:41.935,0:24:44.945 When he moved out from there then[br]first, 0:24:44.945,0:24:46.745 the peripheral part of the town [br]will appear. 0:24:46.745,0:24:49.196 So he says that when he [br]reached the point from where 0:24:49.196,0:24:52.484 the dwellings of Makkah started, [br]i.e. the place from which the town 0:24:52.484,0:24:57.011 or the city of Makkah would start. [br]Hence I heard the sound of songs, 0:24:57.011,0:25:02.865 Daf, and other instruments of music. 0:25:02.865,0:25:07.535 Now you see what are the words here? 0:25:07.535,0:25:12.896 The words are that the moment [br]I reached near the dwellings of Makkah, 0:25:12.896,0:25:18.974 "Same'etu Ghina'an Wa Sauta [br]Dafufin Wa Mazameer". 0:25:18.974,0:25:21.893 Now there isn't any doubt left, [br]what was heard by him? 0:25:21.893,0:25:25.992 I heard singing, i.e. the sound [br]of singing was heard by me, 0:25:25.992,0:25:29.969 "Wa Sauta Dafuf", and heard[br]the playing of Daf. 0:25:29.969,0:25:34.705 "Wa Mazameer", and heard the sounds [br]of other musical instruments. 0:25:34.705,0:25:37.251 [Hassan] Okay.[br][Ghamidi] In every way, 0:25:37.251,0:25:39.880 it was known as to[br]what is the occasion? 0:25:39.880,0:25:42.273 And what is being heard.[br]Do keep in mind that 0:25:42.273,0:25:45.350 the party in which the [br]Prophet (pbuh) had intended to go 0:25:45.350,0:25:47.755 that is further down the way.[br]So he says, 0:25:47.755,0:25:50.885 "When I reached the place where the houses[br]of Makkah began, 0:25:50.885,0:25:55.312 then I heard the sounds of singing, [br]Daf and of other musical instruments. 0:25:55.312,0:25:58.169 i.e. you were repeatedly [br]asking about Daf being incuded, 0:25:58.169,0:26:01.405 so now you may note the mention [br]of other musical instruments. 0:26:01.405,0:26:04.553 i.e. all the things that are under[br]discussion are included here in this. 0:26:04.553,0:26:06.901 What are those things?[br]Listen once more, 0:26:06.901,0:26:11.886 singing, Daf, and other musical[br]instruments' sounds were heard, 0:26:11.886,0:26:14.800 "I asked the people[br]what is going on?" 0:26:14.800,0:26:17.649 Obviously, he knew[br]about that place, 0:26:17.649,0:26:22.023 where the youth would gather [br]and night parties would be organized? 0:26:22.023,0:26:25.559 However, these were unusual [br]sounds that were heard, 0:26:25.559,0:26:28.977 therefore he asked what is going on?[br]They informed, i.e. the people 0:26:28.977,0:26:32.927 informed him about a [br]person among the Quraish, 0:26:32.927,0:26:36.057 who had married a Quraish woman, 0:26:36.057,0:26:39.756 i.e. so and so has married[br]such and such woman. 0:26:39.756,0:26:42.999 "When I heard this[br]I sat down to watch". 0:26:42.999,0:26:47.315 i.e. now you see what has happened?[br]i.e. the Prophet has been told that 0:26:47.315,0:26:50.595 the sounds that you are [br]hearing are the songs 0:26:50.595,0:26:54.842 being sung at a marriage party, [br]Daf is being played, 0:26:54.842,0:26:59.225 and other musical instruments [br]are being played too. 0:27:00.045,0:27:04.034 This was heard by the Prophet (pbuh).[br]On hearing, he asked the people. 0:27:04.034,0:27:08.359 He became aware that it wasn't that[br]night party which he had intended for. 0:27:08.359,0:27:11.981 Actually, it is a house of a Quraish,[br]a marriage has taken place, 0:27:11.981,0:27:16.032 and on that occasion, [br]a flute-like instrument is being played, 0:27:16.032,0:27:19.716 or there are other musical [br]instruments or songs are being sung. 0:27:19.716,0:27:23.231 This was heard by him.[br]"When I heard this, I sat down to watch". 0:27:23.231,0:27:25.662 [Hassan] Okay.[br][Ghamidi] i.e. the Prophet (pbuh) 0:27:25.662,0:27:29.469 instead of heading towards that[br]night party, sat down there itself. 0:27:29.469,0:27:31.064 And sat there to watch it. 0:27:31.064,0:27:34.672 Hence I was so engrossed[br]with the sounds of singing 0:27:34.672,0:27:39.119 and music to the extent that[br]I took a nap and slept there. 0:27:39.119,0:27:41.489 [Hassan] Okay.[br][Ghamidi] i.e. I was watching it, 0:27:41.489,0:27:47.039 and kept on listening to it till the[br]time I felt sleepy and finally slept. 0:27:47.039,0:27:51.781 Only to be woken up by[br]the bright sunshine of the following day. 0:27:51.781,0:27:55.662 Now you listen to the[br]original words used, which are, 0:27:55.662,0:28:01.178 "Fa Jalastu Anzur Fa Lahautu[br]Bi Zaalikal Ghina Wa Bi Zaalika 0:28:01.178,0:28:09.469 Saut Hatta Ghalabat Ni Aini Wa Nimtu[br]Wa Ma Aikazani Illa Massush Shams" 0:28:09.469,0:28:13.070 Listen again to it, [br]"Therefore I got so engrossed 0:28:13.070,0:28:16.266 with the Sound of singing and music".[br]It has been stated above that 0:28:16.266,0:28:18.754 there had been singing, Daf was[br]also being played, 0:28:18.754,0:28:21.808 and there were other musical[br]instruments being played as well. 0:28:21.808,0:28:25.182 He sat down to listen to them. [br]That nightly party which 0:28:25.182,0:28:27.529 the Prophet (pbuh) had[br]termed as a vice, 0:28:27.529,0:28:31.131 he did not go there. [br]However, what was happening here? 0:28:31.131,0:28:33.497 Singing and music [br]were being played. 0:28:33.497,0:28:36.550 There were music and[br]the playing of musical instruments. 0:28:36.550,0:28:39.894 The Daf was being played too.[br]This was happening. 0:28:39.894,0:28:42.560 Hence I got so engrossed [br]with the melodies of singing 0:28:42.560,0:28:45.483 and music that I felt sleepy [br]and slept there itself, 0:28:45.483,0:28:49.633 only to be woken up by the bright [br]sunshine of the following morning". 0:28:49.633,0:28:55.013 "On waking up, I returned to[br]my colleague." i.e. he didn't go there, 0:28:55.013,0:28:59.524 firstly, he kept listening, then got[br]so engrossed with it and felt sleepy. 0:28:59.524,0:29:02.523 The Prophet (pbuh) says that[br]I slept there. 0:29:02.523,0:29:05.455 When he woke up[br]it was bright sunshine. 0:29:05.455,0:29:08.433 "When I woke up I returned[br]to my colleague. 0:29:08.433,0:29:12.694 who asked about [br]my business during last night?" 0:29:12.694,0:29:14.681 "Hence, I narrated [br]this tale to him". 0:29:14.681,0:29:16.924 The same thing happened[br]the following night. 0:29:16.924,0:29:19.329 What had the Prophet [br](pbuh) said in the beginning? 0:29:19.329,0:29:21.052 "I had intended twice".[br][Hassan] Yes. 0:29:21.052,0:29:22.658 [Ghamidi] Now the fact is, 0:29:22.658,0:29:25.305 the vice that the [br]Prophet (pbuh) had intended, 0:29:25.305,0:29:29.787 he (pbuh) did not reach there at all.[br]On the way, heard the sounds of singing, 0:29:29.787,0:29:33.316 Daf, and other [br]musical instruments. 0:29:33.316,0:29:37.203 When he enquired, he learned that[br]some marriage is being solemnized. 0:29:37.203,0:29:40.384 There he got so very engrossed[br]that firstly he kept on listening 0:29:40.384,0:29:44.414 and later on slept there.[br]When he woke up in the morning 0:29:44.414,0:29:47.707 he returned. Obviously, that desire[br]still exists about going 0:29:47.707,0:29:51.268 to the night party,[br]as he never reached there. 0:29:51.268,0:29:54.725 I narrated this tale to him, and the same [br]happened the following night. 0:29:54.725,0:29:58.847 I got out from there and like [br]I had heard the sounds the last night, 0:29:58.847,0:30:01.929 the same voices were heard, [br]and regarding them, 0:30:01.929,0:30:05.669 the same point was told to me[br]which I was told the last night. 0:30:05.669,0:30:07.692 Hence I got busy [br]listening to them. 0:30:07.692,0:30:09.874 [Hassan] Okay, i.e. the[br]same marriage party. 0:30:09.874,0:30:12.539 [Ghamidi] The same marriage party.[br]It is possible that 0:30:12.539,0:30:15.789 the same house was having the same [br]affair on the following day. 0:30:15.789,0:30:18.516 [Hassan] Yes.[br][Ghamidi] Therefore I got engrossed 0:30:18.516,0:30:21.121 in listening to them, to the [br]extent sleep overcame me. 0:30:21.121,0:30:23.946 And then only the heat[br]of the sun woke me up. 0:30:23.946,0:30:26.396 On waking up when[br]I returned to my colleague 0:30:26.396,0:30:30.936 he enquired again about [br]the night's experience? 0:30:30.936,0:30:34.641 I said, "Nothing".[br]The Prophet (pbuh) said, 0:30:34.641,0:30:39.559 "By Allah, post this, I have never[br]ever intended any such vice 0:30:39.559,0:30:43.557 which the people indulged in [br]during the pagan eras, 0:30:43.557,0:30:47.895 till the extent Allah (swt) bestowed[br]His Prophethood upon me". 0:30:47.895,0:30:51.753 Now you see what do we[br]learn from this complete Narration? 0:30:51.753,0:30:57.288 That which the Prophet declared as a vice[br]was the nightly Party of the youth. 0:30:57.288,0:30:59.766 Singing and music[br]happened there too. 0:30:59.766,0:31:02.908 The stories and and telling of[br]tales were the pastimes there too. 0:31:02.908,0:31:04.851 What was it termed by him (pbuh)?[br]Vices. 0:31:04.851,0:31:11.118 And this gathering where the Prophet pbuh[br]had been sitting, what was it termed? 0:31:11.118,0:31:12.951 He is saying that through it, 0:31:12.951,0:31:15.514 Allah (swt) saved me from[br]committing that vice. 0:31:15.514,0:31:18.008 [Hassan] i.e. if this had been Prohibited[br]how could Allah (swt) use 0:31:18.008,0:31:19.591 a Prohibited thing to safeguard [br]from another Prohibition? 0:31:19.591,0:31:21.054 Hence this is [br]a help from Allah. 0:31:21.054,0:31:23.259 [Ghamidi] You see, this[br]is Allah's help. 0:31:23.259,0:31:25.848 The words with which this has been [br]stated by the Prophet (pbuh) are, 0:31:25.848,0:31:28.174 "Kiltaahuma Asamanillahu Minhuma", 0:31:28.174,0:31:31.714 i.e. where I had wished to[br]go was the place of vice. 0:31:31.714,0:31:34.038 How did Allah safeguard me? 0:31:34.038,0:31:37.354 The moment I had reached [br]the periphery of the town, 0:31:37.354,0:31:40.794 the time I saw that the dwelling places[br]of Makkah are visible, 0:31:40.794,0:31:44.455 the party in Makkah where I had [br]intended to reach was farther ahead. 0:31:44.455,0:31:50.130 I heard the sound of music, [br]of Daf, of singing there, 0:31:50.130,0:31:53.044 and got attracted to them, [br]and when I asked people, 0:31:53.044,0:31:56.510 I was told it was a marriage party,[br]I kept listening to it. 0:31:56.510,0:32:00.833 I kept watching it. The same thing[br]took place on both nights. 0:32:00.833,0:32:03.169 [Hassan] Amaziing.[br][Ghamidi] You note that 0:32:03.169,0:32:05.814 each and every point is[br]made clear in the Narration. 0:32:05.814,0:32:13.501 That music, Instruments of Music, Daf,[br]Singing and playing of music, 0:32:13.501,0:32:17.086 in essence, are not at all Prohibited.[br]Rather, through them, 0:32:17.086,0:32:20.544 if they are rightly done,[br]then at times, 0:32:20.544,0:32:23.278 Allah (swt) makes them [br]a means to safeguard people 0:32:23.278,0:32:24.838 from frequenting[br]to wrong places. 0:32:24.838,0:32:27.139 [Hassan] Okay.[br][Ghamidi] I have written on it, 0:32:27.139,0:32:33.498 "It implies that the party intended to be[br]attended, those two parties, 0:32:33.498,0:32:37.759 the night parties, where[br]the youths used to visit, 0:32:37.759,0:32:39.965 where there would be [br]vulgarity as well. 0:32:39.965,0:32:43.342 It implies that the parties[br]for which the attendance was intended, 0:32:43.342,0:32:48.331 I did not even reach those, and in [br]a marriage party, in a marriage party, 0:32:48.331,0:32:51.724 obviously, there wasn't[br]any question of vulgarity there. 0:32:51.724,0:32:56.083 "And listening to the songs[br]and music of a marriage party 0:32:56.083,0:33:00.058 I have returned in the same[br]way as I had the last night". 0:33:00.058,0:33:02.882 This is the interpretation[br]for the words 0:33:02.882,0:33:06.717 which the Prophet (pbuh) [br]said to his colleague. 0:33:06.717,0:33:10.691 When the Prophet spent the first night[br]and returned in the morning, 0:33:10.691,0:33:15.082 he asked, "What did you there?"[br]Hence he narrated here the same tale 0:33:15.082,0:33:17.681 which he had narrated [br]about the first night. 0:33:17.681,0:33:21.966 It meant that the Parties that I had [br]intended to go for, I did not reach them. 0:33:21.966,0:33:23.605 And after listening to the [br]singing 0:33:23.605,0:33:26.137 and the musical orchestra[br]of a marriage ceremony, 0:33:26.137,0:33:29.679 I have returned back in the [br]same way as I had the last night. 0:33:29.679,0:33:34.037 This Narration makes clear [br]absolutely that singing and music, 0:33:34.037,0:33:37.506 and the instruments of music, [br]not only that, in essence, 0:33:37.506,0:33:40.090 they are not forbidden, rather,[br]may even become a means 0:33:40.090,0:33:44.261 to keep away from temptations towards[br]Prohibited activities by Allah (swt). 0:33:44.261,0:33:47.224 [Hassan] Subhanallah.[br][Ghamidi] i.e. there are many things 0:33:47.224,0:33:49.423 in ths world which actually[br]are activities of sin, 0:33:49.423,0:33:52.164 there are many things in this world [br]which actually are things of sin, 0:33:52.164,0:33:54.984 there are many actions that[br]in reality are actions of sin. 0:33:54.984,0:33:56.604 It is quite natural for[br]a human being, 0:33:56.604,0:33:59.514 the type of his/her personality [br]composed and constituted by Allah (swt) 0:33:59.514,0:34:01.856 leads him/her towards[br]temptations for them. 0:34:01.856,0:34:03.662 Their intention also[br]develops in them. 0:34:03.662,0:34:09.353 This develops in the greatest of people, [br]however, Allah (swt) safeguards them. 0:34:09.353,0:34:12.045 When Allah (swt) safeguards, [br]it also happens that 0:34:12.045,0:34:15.037 the Prophet (pbuh) goes[br]and sleeps midway. 0:34:15.037,0:34:18.462 And it also happens that [br]he gets engrossed in some 0:34:18.462,0:34:21.998 permitted aspect of that activity. 0:34:21.998,0:34:24.137 [Hassan] Okay.[br][Ghamidi] There was some pure form 0:34:24.137,0:34:27.240 of that activity and getting [br]engrossed in it became the reason. 0:34:27.240,0:34:30.159 And as a result, the act of[br]safeguarding took place. 0:34:30.159,0:34:35.064 Hence the Prophet (pbuh) himself stated [br]that thus Allah (swt) protected me. 0:34:35.064,0:34:37.130 Hence, you see, the words of 0:34:37.130,0:34:39.530 "Kiltahuma Asamanillahu Minhuma" 0:34:39.530,0:34:42.070 The Prophet (pbuh) was [br]engrossed in this activity, 0:34:42.070,0:34:44.416 i.e. what was this in [br]which he got engrossed? 0:34:44.416,0:34:47.477 There was singing and music,[br]the instruments of music as well, 0:34:47.477,0:34:51.662 however, there wasn't any [br]absurdity, any vulgar activity. 0:34:51.662,0:34:54.424 There wasn't any [br]propagation of obscenity. 0:34:54.424,0:34:58.180 There weren't any interactions[br]that was usual among the youth. 0:34:58.180,0:35:00.061 Rather, during an occasion [br]of a marriage ceremony, 0:35:00.061,0:35:02.861 there were songs of mirth [br]and music of that same kind. 0:35:02.861,0:35:04.725 Hence you see that from[br]the words of 0:35:04.725,0:35:07.205 "Kiltahuma Asamanillahu Minhuma" 0:35:07.205,0:35:10.497 the Prophet (pbuh) remaining[br]engrossed in such an activity, 0:35:10.497,0:35:13.654 and saving his participation[br]in the nonsensical activity 0:35:13.654,0:35:15.348 of the pagan era[br]has been termed as 0:35:15.348,0:35:17.949 the safeguarding done [br]by Allah (swt). 0:35:17.949,0:35:20.964 It is clear from the Narration [br]that this point was stated by him 0:35:20.964,0:35:23.735 after his appointment as [br]the Prophet (pbuh) as he says 0:35:23.735,0:35:25.342 at the end of the Narration 0:35:25.342,0:35:28.312 "To the extent that Allah (swt) [br]bestowed His Prophethood upon me". 0:35:28.312,0:35:30.845 It is clear from the Narration that [br]this point was stated 0:35:30.845,0:35:32.495 after his appointment [br]as a Prophet 0:35:32.495,0:35:33.525 and in this way, 0:35:33.525,0:35:36.539 he approved this even after [br]attaining his status as a Prophet. 0:35:36.539,0:35:38.800 [Hassan] Okay.[br][Ghamidi] i.e. one may not think 0:35:38.800,0:35:41.291 that this is some[br]earlier impression of his. 0:35:41.291,0:35:44.846 This is being stated by the [br]Prophet after achieving Prophethood. 0:35:44.846,0:35:47.349 And every point has been discussed in it. 0:35:47.349,0:35:52.432 It has been told what are the parties[br]of singing and music, conversations, 0:35:52.432,0:35:56.754 which should be termed as vice.[br]It has been told 0:35:56.754,0:35:58.790 what are the parties of singing 0:35:58.790,0:36:00.504 and playing of music, 0:36:00.504,0:36:05.185 and such activities which are[br]Permissible in every way 0:36:05.185,0:36:09.047 and in them even I took[br]part or listened to, 0:36:09.047,0:36:11.280 then there was no harm in it, 0:36:11.280,0:36:14.412 rather Allah (swt) actually [br]got me engaged in them 0:36:14.412,0:36:16.873 so that I am protected[br]from those other vices. 0:36:16.873,0:36:19.771 Hence the whole picture [br]comes right in front of us, 0:36:19.771,0:36:23.510 after which I don't think there remains[br]a further scope for a discussion. 0:36:23.510,0:36:26.294 That this Music, and [br]this Singing, 0:36:26.294,0:36:28.740 on which we are discussing,[br]none of these, 0:36:28.740,0:36:30.711 in essence, are Prohibited. 0:36:30.711,0:36:34.096 These are actually that [br]environment, the conditions 0:36:34.096,0:36:36.980 in which such a party, if organized. 0:36:36.980,0:36:40.194 In the same way, there are[br]those themes or topics 0:36:40.194,0:36:42.294 which at times to propagate [br]them to others, 0:36:42.294,0:36:44.238 we make use of this effective medium. 0:36:44.238,0:36:46.490 Those are the ones [br]that should be criticized. 0:36:46.490,0:36:48.895 The attention should also [br]be drawn towards them. 0:36:48.895,0:36:52.369 If the people are to be barred [br]from them then that too should be done. 0:36:52.369,0:36:55.000 Otherwise, in essence, none[br]of these activities are Prohibited. 0:36:55.000,0:36:58.326 [Hassan] Ghamidi Saab, this Narration [br]which you have read in the end, 0:36:58.326,0:37:00.906 seems quite decisive and [br]with beauty and excellence, 0:37:00.906,0:37:03.687 it presents clearly like 2 and 2 make 4[br]the complete preface 0:37:03.687,0:37:05.332 which you had [br]presented at the beginning. 0:37:05.332,0:37:08.996 A question was coming to mind [br]as to why did you present it in the last? 0:37:08.996,0:37:11.704 If you had presented this[br]Narration in the beginning 0:37:11.704,0:37:13.795 then the complete debate[br]that is done that okay 0:37:13.795,0:37:16.084 if it isn't proved from the Quran,[br]it is proved by Hadees, 0:37:16.084,0:37:18.198 then this Narration singly should [br]have been sufficient for it? 0:37:18.198,0:37:19.745 [Ghamidi] In this gathering, 0:37:19.745,0:37:22.090 where you are presenting[br]the objections to me, 0:37:22.090,0:37:25.811 I take care of the point that [br]the complete argument should be analyzed. 0:37:25.811,0:37:28.193 Hence to review the[br]complete arguments, 0:37:28.193,0:37:31.387 it was necessary that whatever[br]is there in the Quran 0:37:31.387,0:37:33.798 or whatever is there [br]in the Narrations, 0:37:33.798,0:37:36.361 that should come in front of[br]the people at a glance. 0:37:36.361,0:37:38.868 They should see for themselves[br]what are the points 0:37:38.868,0:37:42.648 that are made the basis of arguments,[br]then they should be told in the end that 0:37:42.648,0:37:45.900 the inferences which have been done,[br]the opinion that has been formed 0:37:45.900,0:37:47.905 and those are based on [br]clear injunctions 0:37:47.905,0:37:51.618 i.e. what are the five principles for[br]Prohibitions mentioned in the Quran? 0:37:51.618,0:37:54.096 When the Prophet of Allah[br]states the Prohibitions 0:37:54.096,0:37:56.681 then what is the style [br]and methodology for it? 0:37:56.681,0:37:59.670 If something is to be declared[br]as 'Prohibited' then 0:37:59.670,0:38:02.733 what are the clear pieces of [br]evidence that are to be presented? 0:38:02.733,0:38:06.091 All this training is necessary[br]for the reason that till the time 0:38:06.091,0:38:08.871 we are not ready to look into all the [br]material which 0:38:08.871,0:38:10.671 constitutes the Deen in this way, 0:38:10.671,0:38:14.185 we will be facing a similar situation, [br]which we come across, 0:38:14.185,0:38:18.538 and at times such[br]things enter Deen, 0:38:18.538,0:38:22.954 the existence of which corrpupts[br]the whole concept of the Deen. 0:38:22.954,0:38:25.268 [Hassan] The last question[br]for today's session. 0:38:25.268,0:38:27.238 Let us try and close in[br]the whole discussion. 0:38:27.238,0:38:29.462 Each and every Narration came under [br]discussion spanning several sessions. 0:38:29.462,0:38:31.293 We explored the [br]whole corpus of Hadees. 0:38:31.293,0:38:33.131 Tell me in the end, [br]that which you explained 0:38:33.131,0:38:35.963 that in all there are about 26 incidents,[br]those have occurred in hundreds of books, 0:38:35.963,0:38:37.271 And I would like to mention 0:38:37.271,0:38:39.620 here that this complete work [br]has been published. 0:38:39.620,0:38:42.065 It is available on the website[br]of Ghamidi Sahab, 0:38:42.065,0:38:43.808 this work has been carried [br]out under the Hadees Project, 0:38:43.808,0:38:46.399 and the app is available there as well. [br]People may study there too. 0:38:46.399,0:38:48.482 We would also provide[br]its link in the description. 0:38:48.482,0:38:51.420 Do tell us, it is said that there still [br]are some more Hadees 0:38:51.420,0:38:54.090 some 'Zayeef' Narrations, 0:38:54.090,0:38:57.210 some Narrations which[br]have some discussion on music too. 0:38:57.210,0:39:00.818 Were you aware of those and [br]you did not present them purposely? 0:39:00.818,0:39:02.876 [Ghamidi] Such are there [br]on every subject. 0:39:02.876,0:39:06.236 You pick any subject,[br]the subject of Salah, Sawm, 0:39:06.236,0:39:09.443 you will find many such things.[br]However, I have stated earlier, 0:39:09.443,0:39:13.182 that in their attribution to the Prophet, [br]when such points were stated 0:39:13.182,0:39:16.451 then there had often [br]been many exaggerations. 0:39:16.451,0:39:19.864 Many points were stated out [br]of their context and situations. 0:39:19.864,0:39:23.466 There had been many alterations.[br]Many of the things were such 0:39:23.466,0:39:27.974 in which there was the blending[br]of their beliefs, views, and concepts. 0:39:27.974,0:39:31.449 Hence the Muhaddeseen made[br]use of the art 0:39:31.449,0:39:35.021 which we call the specialized study of[br]Hadees.
