Why did you choose to make Plum Village?

Why do I choose to make Plum Village?

Because I like it.

(Laughter)

I like to create a place

where we can live relaxingly,

peacefully with joy,

and welcome other people to come

and live with us like that.

There is peace, there is love,

brotherhood, sisterhood, joy.

And we learn how to be kind to each other,

how to be pleasant to each other,

how not to fight with our arms,

and not to fight with our mouths.

That means, we learn how to speak

and how to do things in such a way that

will not make the other person,

the other people, suffer.

So Plum Village is a place where there is 
peace.

You see there are one thousand people 
sitting here.

That is not noisy.

This is not violent;

it is very peaceful.

And there is love.

We care for each other.

And they are kind to each other.

We are fresh to each other.

So it's nice to make a Plum Village

and I hope that when you grow up

you will find a time to make

a Plum Village somewhere.
