WEBVTT 00:00:02.520 --> 00:00:03.440 Gasp! It's me! 00:00:03.629 --> 00:00:05.189 But there's the real Dru! 00:00:07.620 --> 00:00:08.400 Well done 00:00:09.320 --> 00:00:14.240 Melissa asked on the comments of one of my previous vlogs this month, 00:00:14.250 --> 00:00:18.990 if I've told the story of Dru, how I got Dru. And I probably have but it doesn't 00:00:18.990 --> 00:00:20.279 hurt to tell it again. 00:00:20.279 --> 00:00:25.019 It was August 2004. It had been a little while since I lost my 00:00:25.019 --> 00:00:28.019 previous dog to heartworm disease. 00:00:28.650 --> 00:00:33.540 I was missing having a dog in my life so I started looking on various pet 00:00:33.540 --> 00:00:39.059 adoption websites and craigslist and I checked in with my girlfriend at the time, 00:00:39.059 --> 00:00:44.850 Carrie, with photos of the dogs that I liked and she liked a few of them but 00:00:44.850 --> 00:00:47.340 then I send her a photo of this dog, 00:00:47.340 --> 00:00:51.180 this one, and Carrie said, "Oh! This, 00:00:51.180 --> 00:00:55.710 this is the one. You should get this dog!" The photo came from a craigslist ad. A couple 00:00:55.710 --> 00:01:00.930 had found this dog in Druid Hill Park, a part of Baltimore. She was tied to a post 00:01:00.930 --> 00:01:04.049 covered in cuts and bruises and they were doing interviews with people who 00:01:04.049 --> 00:01:05.610 are interested in adopting her. 00:01:05.610 --> 00:01:09.930 They already had a few dogs, which is why they couldn't keep her for themselves. They had 00:01:09.930 --> 00:01:12.930 her set up in the kitchen and were interviewing people. 00:01:13.490 --> 00:01:19.549 Apparently, most of the people who had come to check Dru out had been met with 00:01:19.549 --> 00:01:23.360 growls and snaps and just general disapproval from Dru. 00:01:24.110 --> 00:01:29.570 But when I came in and I sat down and I just waited, she came over to me and was 00:01:29.570 --> 00:01:34.880 very friendly with me! She had been named Druidzilla, the monster of Druid Hill Park, 00:01:34.880 --> 00:01:38.270 but to me she was always just Dru. 00:01:38.270 --> 00:01:42.679 I feel like the fact that of all the people came to interview to adopt her, 00:01:42.679 --> 00:01:47.479 she came to me and was friendly with me, means she kind of chose me instead of the 00:01:47.479 --> 00:01:48.530 other way around. 00:01:48.530 --> 00:01:51.530 When I adopted her the vets suspected that she was about a year old. 00:01:52.039 --> 00:01:55.310 She had not been spayed yet, so that was the first thing that we did. The life expectancy 00:01:55.310 --> 00:02:00.409 for a dog like Dru is probably about 10 years, so I've been very lucky and i hope 00:02:00.409 --> 00:02:02.539 that i keep on being lucky for a while. 00:02:02.539 --> 00:02:04.199 I've already won! 00:02:04.560 --> 00:02:05.380 Dru! 00:02:06.240 --> 00:02:07.420 [laughter!] 00:02:12.250 --> 00:02:15.970 so that's my vlog for today, all about Dru, today. Even have a shirt with Dru 00:02:15.970 --> 00:02:17.200 on.. on it! 00:02:17.200 --> 00:02:23.470 Leave me some comments about my adopting Dru story down below or tell me 00:02:23.470 --> 00:02:26.530 anything that matters to you, because I want to know what matters to you. 00:02:26.530 --> 00:02:30.510 Thank you for watching my dog vlog today, here at the end of the video is where I 00:02:30.520 --> 00:02:31.560 always say: 00:02:31.560 --> 00:02:32.740 Tomorrow 00:02:32.740 --> 00:02:34.740 will be even better!
