9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 As many of you know, the results of[br]the recent election were as follows: 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Hillary Clinton, democratic candidate[br]went allowance ??? victory 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 with 52% of the overall vote. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Jill Stein, the green candidate,[br]came a distant second with 19%. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Donald J. Trump, the Republican Candidate[br]was caught on the hills with 14%. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And the major of the vote was shared between abstainers and Gary Jonhson ??? 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 the libertarian candidate. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 (Laughter in the audience) 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 What parallel Universe do you suppose I'm leaving ? 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Well, I don't live in a parallel Universe, I live in the world. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And that, is outer world verdict. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Let me take you back and let me explain what I wean with that. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 In June this year, I learned something called "The Global Vote". 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And the Global Vote, does exactly what he says on the teen ??? 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 The first time in Hystory, elects anybody, anywhere in the world, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 vote in the elections of others people's countries. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Why would you do that? 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 What's the point? 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Let me show you what it looks like. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 You go on a website, rather beautiful website, and then you select an election 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 here's the bunches ?? we've already covered, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 We do about it one a month or there about it if you consider the ''' of the United States of America 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Secretary General of the United Nations, The Brexit Referendum at the end of ??? 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 You select the election you're interested in and you pick the candidate 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 These are the candidates for the recent elections in the tiny ??? Sautomia in Principe 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 under hundred of thousand inhabitants, off the coast of West Africa. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And you can look at the brief summary of each of those Candidates which I dearly hope 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 it's very neutral, very informative and very succinct. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And when you find the one you like, you vote. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 These are the Candidates in the recent Islandic election. And That's the way it goes. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Why not would you do want to vote in another country's election? 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 The reason you wouldn't want to do it, let me reassure you is in order to interfere 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 in the democratic process of another country. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 That's not the purpose at all. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Infact, you can't because usually what I do is a re??? of results after 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 the election in each individual country has already voted, so there's not way we can interfere in that process. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 But more importantly, I'm not particularly interested in the domestic issues of the individual countries, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 that's not what we are voting on. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 What Donald J. Trump and Hillary Clinton propose to do for the American 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 is frankly non of our business. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 That's something that only American can vote on. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Now, in the Global Vote you are considering only one aspect of it 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 which is: what of those leaders are going to do for the rest of us? 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And that's very important, because we live, as lot of ????? people tell you, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 in a globalized, hyperconnected, massively interdependent world, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 where the politicol decisions of people of another countries can unwill have an impact on our lives 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 no matter who we are, no matter where we live. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 like the wings of the butterfly, beating on one side of the Pacific, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 that can apparently create an hurricane on the other side. So it is with the world we are living today. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And the world of politics. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 There's no longer divided lines between domestic and international effect. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Any country, no matter how small, even if it's Sautoma in Principe, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 could produce the next Nelson Mandela, or the next Stalin. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 They coul pollute the atmosphere in the oceans which belongs to all of us. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Or they could be responsible and they can help all of us. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And yet, the system is so strange because the system hasn't caught ??? up with the globalized reality. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Only a small number of people are allowed to vote for those leaders, even though their impact is gigantic 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and almost universal. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 What number was it? A hundred and forty million of Americans voted for the next President of The United State 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and yet, as all of us know, in a few weeks time, somebody ios going ??? 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 over the nuclear launch code to Donald J. Trump. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Now if it isn't having a potential impact on all of us, I don't know what it is. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Similarly, the election for the Referendum - the Brexit Vote 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 was a small numbers of British people voted on that 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 but the outcome of the vote, which every way I wend????? would have a significant impact 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 on the lives of ten hundreds of millions people around the world. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and the ????? number could vote 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 What kind of democracy is that? 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Huge decisions that affects all of us being decided by relatively very small numbers of people 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and I don't know about you, but I don't think that sounds very democratic. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So I'm trying to clear it up. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 But as I say, we don't ask about domestic questions. Infact, I only have asked two questions of all of the candidates. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 I send the same two questions every single time. I say: 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 1. If you got elected, what are you going to do for the rest of us? 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 For the reminder of the 7 billion who live in this planet? 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 2. What is your vision for your country's future in the world? 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 What role do you see it will play? 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Every candidate, I send the same questions and I ????? 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 don't get me wrong, I re???? if you're standing to become the next President of the United States 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 probably pretty tied ??? most of the time, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 so I'm not get together surprised that I'm ???? but many do. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 More every ntime. And somebody do much more than answer. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Some of the most, in the most enthusiastic and ???? you could imagine, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 I just wanna say what if ????chiChimba, which was one of the candidate in the recent Zambia Presidential elections 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 His answers to those two questions were basically an 18 pages dissertation 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 on his view of Zambia potential role in the world, and in the international Community. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 I posted on the website so anyone could read it. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Now sa??? onte the global vote, but he didnt't win the Zambia election 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So I found myself wondering, what am I going to do if this extraordianry group of people, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 I found some wonderful people here who want the global vote 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 we always ???? are getting wrong, by the way. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 The one we elect is never the one that is elected by the domestic electorate. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Maybe Palin because we wento see to go for the vote for women 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 But I think it may also be a sign that the domestic electors still think very nationally 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 they're still thinking very inwardly, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 they're still asking themselves: what's in it for me? instead what they should be asking today, which is: 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 What's in it for we? 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 But then you go , so suggestions plesa, not right now but send me an e-mail 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 if you got an idea about we can do with this amazing team of glorious losers???? 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 We've gor save ???? before we should up at Thomas Tortier who was rinning 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 in the Ilandic Presidential elections, many of you may have seen her 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 in an amazing talk at TDE women just few weeks ago, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 when she spoke for need for women to get into politics. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 We have Maria S??? from Sautomia in Principe 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 we got Hillary Clinton, she's available 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 We got Jill Stein, and we aught also the elections of the nextg Secretary of the United Nations 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and we called the next Prime Minister of the New Zeeland 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 a wonderful member of the team 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 I think maybe those people the ????? traveled around the world whatever there's an election 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and remind people of the necessity in our modern age, of thinking a little bit outwards 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and thinking of the international consequences 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 What comes next to the global vote? Obviously the Donald and Hillary show 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 is a difficult one to follow but there's anothere ???election coming up 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Infact they seemed multuply, there's something going on, I'm sure you've noticed in the world 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and the next role of elections were terrificly important. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And just a few days time we got a ???? the Australian Presidential elections 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 with the prospect of nobody offer.??? 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 become finally described as fast ???since the Second Worlds War 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Next year we got Germany, we got France, we got Presidential election in Iran, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and it doesn't habits 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 It doesn't get less important It gets more and more important. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Clearly, the global vote is not a stand alone project. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 It's not just there on its own. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 It has some backgrounds. It's part of the project which I've launched back in 2014 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 which I called "Good Country" 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 The idea of a good country is basically very simple. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 It's my simple diagnosis of what it's wrong with the world, and how we can fix it. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 What's wrong with the world I've already went into that. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Basically we face an increasingly growing number of challenges 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 gigantic, existencial global challenges - climate change, human rights abuses, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 mass migration, terrorism, economic caos, weapons proliferation 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 who with these problems is ??? to praise out? 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 About the very mnature of globalized problems we know individual countries 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 as the capability of tackling on it on oits zone 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And so very obviously, we have to cooperate and we have to collaborate 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and as nations we're not going to solve these problems 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 It's so obvious. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And yet we don't- 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 We don't do nearly after enough. Most of the time, countries still persists in behaving 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 as they were worring selfish tribes. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Fighting against each other, not as they have that since the nation stayed invented hundred of years ago. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And this is got to change. This is not a change in politicol system or a change in ideology 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 this is a change in culture 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 we, all of us, have to understand, that thinking in woods is not the solution to the world's problems 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 we have to learn how to cooperate and how collaborate a great deal know?? 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and compete just a tiny bit less. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Otherwise things we are carrying are getting bed, and are going to get much worse 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 much sooner that we anticipate. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 this change will only happen if we ordinary people tell our polititians of things to change 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 we have to tell them that the culture is changed. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 We have to tell them we have a new mandate 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 The old mandate was very simple and very single. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 If you're in a posistion of power or authority you're responsible for your own people 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and your slice of theatry, and that's it. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And in order to do the best thing for your people, you screw on everybody else on the planet 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Tha't considered to be a big Macho. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Today, everybody in a position of power and responsibility is in the position of a dual mandate 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 which says if youìre in a position of power and responsibility, you're responsible for youir own people 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and for every single man, woman, child and animal on the planet. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 You're responsible for your own slice of teatry and for every single square of ??? 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and the atmosphjere above it 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and if you don't like that responsibility, you should not bwe in power. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 That, for me, is the rule of the modern age 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And that's the message thae we're going to address to our politicians 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and show them that tha's the way things are mede these days 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 otherwise, we're all screwed. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 I don't have a problem actually with Donald Trump ?????? of America first 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 It seems to me that this it's a pretty banale statement of what politicians have always done, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and probably should always do. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Of, course, they're elected to represent the interests of their own people 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 but what I find so boring and so old-fashioned, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and so unimaginative about his take on that, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 is that America first means everyone else lose. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 The making America grat again means making everybody else small again. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And it's just no true. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Imagine all the advisor of the last twenty years or so. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 I've seen so many hundreds of examples of policies that harmonize 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 the international and the domestic needs. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And they make better policy. I'm not asking nations to be altruistic 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 or self-sacrificed. That would be ridiculous! 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 No nation would ever do that. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 I'm asking to wake up and understand that we need a new form pof Government 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 which is possible and which harmonize those two needs 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and it's good for our own people 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and those good for everybody else. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Since the US elections and since Brexit,
