I gave the spot to the climbers and

asked which scenario will cause a harder

catch for the climber option A where the

belayer stands far from the wall option B

where the belayer

stands close to the wall

or C that it does not matter

and to my surprise,

38% chose option B.

Well, for the last 2

years we've been doing the largest study

on climbing false and now I have a

visual answer to my question. So, yes, in

some cases there was absolutely no

difference, however, more often, standing

far from the wall caused a harder catch

for the climber and the belayer had way

less control and we also tested a

scenario where the belayer is

significantly heavier than the climber

and jumping up is much more difficult

and then

we compared everything against
