9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Total shock! 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Absolutely shocked! 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Imagine all the people 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 I could not believe it, I mean I was shocked. And then I'm sayoung to myself:7 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 who did this? Why anyone would hurt John? Then it struck me I might have a picture of the killer. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Don't let me down... 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 On December 8th, 1980 I was assigned 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 to the 20ths precinct. I was a patrolman in a radio car 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And I got a call that there was shots fired at 1 W. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 72nd street. There was a man pointing 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and he said "That's the man doing the shooting." 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And at that point we realized that this was for real. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So I peeked in and saw a man with his hands up. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So I threw this guy up against a wall and at that point 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Jose says to me he shot John Lennon. And I said "You what?" 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 (shot) 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 This is a work of art by John Lennon's widow, Yoko Ono. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 I was thinking about all these windows in the world 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And there's so many windows that have bullet marks 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and bullet holes. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So I wanted to make a symbolic gesture of one bullet hole 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And also you have to see it from the front. You have 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 to see it from the back. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 When you see it from the front you're the shooter. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 When you see it from the back, you're the victim. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And I did it and then I saw it. And I said " Oh my God! I saw that!" 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 "That night" 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 At 10:50 p.m. on Monday December the 8th, 1980, John Lennon was murdered 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 At the Dakota Building in New York 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 "Late this evening, one of the world's great entertainers 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and musicians, John Lennon of the Beatles. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Was shot outside his New York home." 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 The shockwaves of John Lennon's murder were felt 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 around the world. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Switched on the radio and 'Imagine' was playing. It was like a knife through your heart. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 You knew it was true. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 It was a shattering blow. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Stunned. I just couldn't... I just saw him. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Total shock. Absolute shock. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 "Imagine all the people" 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 I could not believe it. I mean I was shocked and then I was 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 saying to myself, "Who did this?" 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And why anyone would hurt John? 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And then it struck me that I might have a picture of the kiler. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 On January 1969, eleven years before John died, the 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Beatles held their last ever concert. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 On the roof of their office building on Saddle Row. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 It was the end of an era. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 John Lennon profoundly influenced a generation. And beyond. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 What do you know happened here? What do I know happened? 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 The record label was run from here I suppose. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 I don't know much what happened here. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Yeah. one last gig 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 "Dont let me down." 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 I see this house and I was in that queue. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 It was his voice, man. It makes me sad 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 It makes me angry. It makes chilled. You know? It was 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 his voice really. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 "Nobody ever loved me like she do." 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 I thought, :right? I want to be in a band like that. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 why can't I make music like that 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 "One two three four" 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 John's whole life after he walked away from the Beatles 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 was an escape from the insanity of Beatle-mania 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 In 1971, he found his refuge with Yoko in New York 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 the city in which he was, nine years later, to meet his fate 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 (singing) New york city baby 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Yeah the last time I saw John we were in Madison 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Square Garden. He said, "I can walk down the street, walk through the park. People pass me- 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 'Hi John' and keep on walking". He said "I love it." 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And I thought to myself, John's found peace at last. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Singing: all we saying is give peace a chance. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Peace had come at a price. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 John's political activism had a real effect on young people. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And the President himself saw Lennon as a threat. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Nixon was determined to deny John his green card 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 There's a piece of tape somewhere of Nixon's 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 henchmen saying "You know this guy could sway an election." 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 This was preserved. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And the first step was to kick him out. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And they were very eager to do that. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 (Singing I would like..) 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 It's August 1980, with his struggle for permanent residence long behind him, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 John is about to embark on a new musical venture 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 with Yoko. They're snapped leaving the Dakota, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 on the first day of recording their album "Double Fantasy" 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 They can have no idea it will be their last. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Their coproducer is Jack Douglas. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 The idea of this album was a play, a dialogue between a man and his wife. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 A man who had been through the sixties. It was about 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 "Well here we are. We're turning 40. And everythings ok. We can still do this. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 We can still have our voice. We managed to make it through 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 all those terrible years. And now let's look to the future." 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 (singing) Even after all these years. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 By September 1980, the album "Double Fantasy" is nearing completion. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 He listened to it very intently. And I saw this smile come on his face. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And he yelled out, "Mother! Tell them we have a record!" 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Mother was John's nickname for his wife. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 He made me laugh all the time. I wasn't trying to make 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 him laugh. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 But it seemed like he was laughing all the time about me. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Just the fact that I'm saying something serious. And he said, "You're so tiny and you're saying these things." 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And you know, that made him feel funny I suppose. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 To his fans, John could be kind. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 In November 1980, the fan later to take the last picture of John alive, is granted his first photo opportunity. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So he says, "Well let's take it now." 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 "Let's get it the hell over with. You never know 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 if we'll get another chance to do it." 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And this was 21 days before he gets murdered. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So, I mean, I was like a kid under the Christmas tree 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 on Christmas morning. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And when I stood next to him, John put his right arm 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 around my shoulder. And I couldn't believe 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 that he pulled me to him. And when he did that. He 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 gave me the idea and I held on to his fur collar. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Cause I was holding it almost to make sure 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 it wasn't a dream. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Like, he wasn't going to disappear on me. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 The most iconic image of John Lennon in 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 New York was taken by his friend, photographer 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Bob Gruen. Friday December the 5th, three days before he dies. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 John phones him 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 He was in a good mood, very playful. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 The next day he asked me to come back, cause he 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 had gotten a new jacket. He wanted some pictures of the new jacker, a very fancy Yamamoto jacket. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and so we stayed up all night talking while they were working in the studio. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And it wasn't until dawn that we were actually out on the street 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 I think it was Saturday morning, December 6th 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and we took a bunch of pictures there and um 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and that was the last time I saw him. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Later that Saturday, December 6th John gives a radio 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 interview to BBC DJ Andy Peebles at the Hit Factory recording studio in Manhattan. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 There was my hero. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 I remember he put his arm around my shoulder and said "Thank you for coming." 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And I felt like saying, "What do you mean, thank you for coming?" 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 (Recording) 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 When I left England I still couldn't go on the street. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 It was still Carnaby Street and all that stuff was going on. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 We couldn't walk around the block, go to a restaurant, unless 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 you wanted to do the business of the star going to the restaurant garbage. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 I can go right out this door now and go in a restaurant. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 You want to know how great that is? 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And towards the end of the interview, for some perverse reason 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 it just flashed through my mind- ask him about security. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And he came out with the classic quote, you know, "i can walk down the street 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and people say 'hi John, how are you, how's the baby?'" 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And I can see him now saying it with such conviction. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 He could never ever have dreamt 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 what would ensue in 48 hours. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Never ever have dreamt. Pfft. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 It's Monday the eighth of December, 1980. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 At 10:00 a.m. John leaves the Dakota building for his favorite 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 local barber. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 He just wanted a haircut. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 I dunno maybe I have those hairs still. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 I used to keep his hair. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Well the day started with the Liebowitz photograph. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 As the photographer Annie Liebowitz completes the photo shoot 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 for Rolling Stone magazine and the cover that was 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 to become world famous. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 John's fan, the amateur photographer Paul Garesh, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 arrives as usual. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 I got to the Dakota around 11:45 in the morning 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and when I got there, it was a nice mild day for December 8th. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 The only other person there was a guy standing 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 with a long overcoat with a fur collar. And a fur hat. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And he had a scarf on and he was holding "Double Fantasy" 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 under his elbow 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And he says to me "Are you waiting for Lennon?" 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And I said, "Yeah" 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And he said, "My name's Mark. I'm from Hawaii." 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And I said, "I'm Paul. I'm from New Jersey." 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And he said "Oh. Do you work for him?" 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And I said "No" 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 He said "I came all the way from Hawaii to get my album signed." 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So I said, "where are you staying while you're in the city?" And with that he seemed to change his whole demeanor. From like a dope to an aggressive person. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And he said, "Why do you want to know?" And I said "go back where you were standing and leave me alone." 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 We were doing a sort of interview with RKO radio you know. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 12:40 p.m. the RKO radio team from San Francisco with radio host Dave Sholan arrived with expectation for the interview that lies ahead. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 We drive up to the Dakota which is a very impressive building. I mean it takes your breath away. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and then we're ushered into this incredible space. This beautiful room where you take your shoes off which is a wonderful custom. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And sit down on the couch and Yoko was there. And I look up to the ceiling and notice these clouds that are painted on Lovely. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Meanwhile Paul Goresh goes inside hoping to pick up a copy of John's 1965 book A Spaniard in the woods, which he's left for John to sign. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 John was coming in from walk He said I will sign it for you today I promise. So I went back outside at my post. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 When I went back outside, the guy with the overcoat was there and he was alone on the other side of the yard. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 He came over to me and said "You know what, I want to apologize to you. I owe you an apology for the way I acted. You're in New York and you never know who you can trust these days." 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Monday December the 8th 1980, it's 1:25 p.m. John Lennon begins a 2 and a half hour interview with radio journalist Dave Sholan 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 It's the last interview he will ever give. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 The door opens and John appears. Does this little jump in the air and proceeds to say "here I am folks. the show is ready to begin." 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 He spreads his arms out and comes right over. He could not have been more upbeat. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 In the interview John ranges over his whole life story from his Liverpool years to his relationship with Yoko and their son Sean. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 He was born on Oct. 9th which I was. So we are almost like twins. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So now I have more reason to stay healthy and bright. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Around 1978-9, around then, he said "I feel very lonely. Because there's not a man that I can talk to. About being a house husband. They must have some kind of group session or something for those men. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and I said " well. I suppose there should be. But we couldn't find one." 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and one day I saw John sitting in bed and crying and I said "what happened?" 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and he was reading a book called The First Sex and its a book about how women don't get credit at all for what they did in history. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and he said I didn't know that we would do this to women. He has a very soft heart you know. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Seems to me, correct me if I'm wrong, that John came from a background that was very macho. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Very macho. Oh I was surprised. But you know, I think that was normal in those days for guys. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 This is the Liverpool pub where John used to meet his art school friends. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 One of these was Thelma Pickles. She was 16 and John 17. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Well of a romance I suppose it was in a way. A youthful romance. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 John lived here in a house known as Mendips with his aunt Mimi who brought him up in the absence of his mother Julia. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 He got up to the kinds of things young people get up to He had a very pristine bedroom. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 He once asked me if I knew that making love expended the same amount of energy as going for a 5 mile run.Which I didn't know and I don't know to this day is true but I believed him. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And then it became a euphemism. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 One evening there was a party at the art school where they were both students. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 He said "Come on. Let's go for a five mile run. So we went upstairs to the Art history classroom. When we got inside there were at least three other couples. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 I said "I'm not staying here and he absolutely whacked me one. I didn't speak to him after that. I didn't care who he was, how funny he was, how interesteing he was. I was not going to be hit by a lad." 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 John's relationships with women were often controversial. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 By 1970 he had become one of the most famous people in the world. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 His early marriage with Cynthia with whom he had a son Julian, was over. But Yoko proved unpopular. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 The reason for the Beatles splitting up, with precious little evidence ascribed to her. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 The hostility directed toward Yoko didn't dimish when they moved to New York. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 I felt terrible about me but then I was feeling guilty about him. He was really getting it as well. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Because his records were not selling too well either. And it was all because he was with me in a way. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Because we were together almost 26 hours a day. And I think it was very unusual for John to be like that. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And for any rocker, they kind of sneak out. There was none of that. Because he was worried that I might do it. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 He was laughing about it. Because you know, I'm an artist. He was afraid I might be sort of free about things. You know. Unlike other women. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 I probably was. But i wasn't free about that sort of thing. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 In fact it was John's misbehavior with a woman at a party which in 1973 made Yoko realize they needed time apart. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 I call it my lost weekend. It lasted 18 months. When the feminine side of me died slightly. And she said "get the hell out". 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Give me 30 seconds to just be in this space. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Elliott Mintz was a Los Angeles based reporter who had become a friend of John and Yokol 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Yoko thought it would be best for John to go off on his own and for the two of them to part as a seperation. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 She suggested he leave New York and go to Los Angeles. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 That choice was partially based upon the fact that I was here and that somehow I might be able to look after him. Talk about a burden. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 In the first couple of weeks he did what people do in this city if you're a bachelor and by former profession you happen to be a Beatle. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 He liked the action. For a short time he liked the parties. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 He liked the nightclubs. He liked the drinking. He didn't mind the attention of the ladies. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 I can tell you this. A week, two or three, into the experience the only thing he wanted was to figure out a way of getting back with Yoko. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 1980 I was assigned to the 20th precinct 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 I was a patrolman in a radio car and I got a call 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 that there were shots fired at 1 W 72nd st 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 uh, there was a man pointing and he said that's the man doing the shooting and at that point we realized this is for real 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 so i peeked in and saw a man with his hands up so i threw this guy up against the wall and at that point Jose says to me he shot John Lennon, and he says "you what?" 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 [gunshot] 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 This is a work of art by John Lennon's widow, Yoko Ono. I was thinking about all these windows in the world and there are so many windows that have, ah, bullet marks, you know, bullet holes. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 So, I wanted to make a symbolic gesture of on bullet hole and also you have to see it from the front and you have to see it from the back because when you see it from the front you're the shooter, when you see it from the back you're the victim. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And I did it and then I saw it and I said "Oh my God" I saw that. That night. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 At 10:50 pm on Monday December the 8th, 1980 John Lennon was murdered at the Dakota building in New York. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Late this evening one of the world's great entertainers and musicians John Lennon of the Beatles was shot outside of his New York home. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 The shockwaves of John Lennon's murder were heard around the world. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 I switched on the radio and "Imagine" was playing. Stunned. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 I just couldn't, I just sighed. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Total shock. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Absolute shock. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 [music] Imagine all the people... 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And I could not believe it. [music ends] 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 In January 1969, eleven years before John died, the Beatles held their last ever concert on the roof of their office building in Saville Row. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 It was the end of an era. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 John Lennon profoundly influenced a generation, and beyond. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 What do you know happened here? 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 What do I know? On the roof of their office building in South. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 It was an end of an era. Why can't I make music like that. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 John's whole life after he left the Beatles was an escape from the insanity of Beatle mania. In 1971 he found his refuge with Yoko in New York. The city in which he was, 9 years later to meet his fate. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 the last time I saw John in Madison Square garden he said I can walk down the street, I can walk in the park and people say hi John. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 I keep on walking. Instead of hi John, blah blah, and he said I love it. And I thought to myself, John's found peace at last. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Peace had come at a price. John's political activism had a real effect on young people and the president himself saw Lennon as a threat. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Nixon was deterined to deny John his green card. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Tehre is a piece of tape of Nixon's hedge men saying you know this guy could sway an election. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 This is preserved. and the first step was to kick him out. A dialoge between a man and his wife. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 A man who had been through the sixties. Well here we are were turning 40. We 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 We
