0:00:00.154,0:00:02.656 [Heavy Danish accent] How much dedicated RAM will I need? 0:00:03.157,0:00:05.675 Disclaimer: This video isn't gonna be like my other videos. 0:00:05.675,0:00:08.966 If you're only gonna watch my [indistinct] League of Legends videos, then stop watching. 0:00:08.966,0:00:12.002 Also, if you're only here for results, the Dev Kit 2 won. 0:00:12.002,0:00:14.484 There, I just saved you two minutes of your time. You're welcome. 0:00:14.484,0:00:18.490 So a little while back CCP were nice enough to fly me out to EVE Fanfest in Iceland. 0:00:18.490,0:00:21.381 It was an absolutely awesome experience, I would definitely go again. 0:00:21.381,0:00:25.204 One of the things that I got to try out at the Fanfest was a project called Valkyrie. 0:00:25.204,0:00:27.549 It's dogfighting game in space in VR. 0:00:27.549,0:00:30.589 And I can safely say my expectations were blown out of the water. 0:00:30.589,0:00:33.070 This is my first time with hands-on virtual reality headsets 0:00:33.070,0:00:35.789 and specifically, I tried the Oculus Dev Kit 2, 0:00:35.789,0:00:37.992 and the Sony Project Morpheus. 0:00:37.992,0:00:41.037 With no previous experience, I have a completely unbiased mindset, 0:00:41.037,0:00:43.651 and these are my experiences with the two VR headsets. 0:00:43.651,0:00:45.630 First I tried out the Oculus Dev Kit 2, 0:00:45.630,0:00:47.998 and I was very surprised at the quality of the headset. 0:00:47.998,0:00:51.339 I assumed it was only a work-in-progress, as it is labelled as a dev kit, 0:00:51.339,0:00:54.070 but it was might as well have been sold as a final consumer product. 0:00:54.070,0:00:57.534 It has a nice one-size-fits-all mechanism that will adjust to your face, 0:00:57.534,0:01:00.349 and I saw that even people with glasses could wear it effortlessly. 0:01:00.349,0:01:03.596 It was a 1080p display, and I believe it had 60 Hz refresh rate, 0:01:03.596,0:01:04.855 but don't quote me on that. [actually 75 Hz] 0:01:04.855,0:01:07.589 And it took a few seconds for you to stop noticing the pixels, 0:01:07.589,0:01:11.833 I'm not sure that when you're this close to display, you're going to see them,[br]just as you put on the headset, 0:01:11.833,0:01:15.603 but overall, like, it didn't break immersion in the slightest. 0:01:15.603,0:01:17.324 I had no discomfort wearing the headset, 0:01:17.324,0:01:19.405 and the headtracking software seemed flawless. 0:01:19.405,0:01:22.024 It was truly a mind-blowing experience to try VR for the first time, 0:01:22.024,0:01:25.621 and I feel like it added a whole other level of depth and immersion to gaming. 0:01:25.621,0:01:26.769 The Morpheus on the other hand, 0:01:26.769,0:01:29.104 which, to my knowledge, is a consumer-grade product, 0:01:29.104,0:01:33.985 had its flaws. First of all, the rubber that was to attach around your eyes[br]and block out the outside light 0:01:33.985,0:01:36.894 seemed very cheap and gimmicky. It also didn't do its job, 0:01:36.894,0:01:40.038 for me and anyone I asked. Light came in from under the headset, 0:01:40.038,0:01:42.099 and that is a huge break in immersion. 0:01:42.099,0:01:44.396 The motion tracking also seemed to be lacking. 0:01:44.396,0:01:48.369 Upon several occasions, it glitched out and it bobbed my vision all over the place. 0:01:48.369,0:01:50.903 It didn't go very well with neck movements. 0:01:50.903,0:01:53.830 It should be known that the version of Valkyrie that we were running on the Morpheus 0:01:53.830,0:01:57.080 was an older version, and that might have affected the test to some minor degree. 0:01:57.080,0:02:01.008 However, that should not change both the hardware and software affiliated with Morpheus headset. 0:02:01.009,0:02:04.220 I have to say that the Dev Kit 2 is just objectively better. 0:02:04.220,0:02:08.044 It outperforms the Project Morpheus in every aspect of virtual reality headset, 0:02:08.044,0:02:12.305 apart from looks, maybe. I actually really like the futuristic look of the Morpheus, 0:02:12.305,0:02:14.845 you can look like a, like a fucking alien. Wah! 0:02:14.845,0:02:16.413 Anyways, um, 0:02:16.413,0:02:18.835 now I'm sure that the headtracking software will be improved, 0:02:18.835,0:02:22.441 and I hope to God that the Morpheus doesn't release with that gimmicky plastic. 0:02:22.441,0:02:25.633 Either way, it wasn't a problem to the point of ruining the enjoyment. 0:02:25.633,0:02:28.076 I thoroughly enjoyed virtual reality on both headsets, 0:02:28.076,0:02:32.394 and I'm definitely waiting for a final consumer-grade Oculus. 0:02:32.394,0:02:36.543 The game EVE Valkyrie was absolutely amazing, you can check out a trailer for it, links in the description. 0:02:36.543,0:02:39.520 It's probably the most fun I've had with gaming in a very long time, 0:02:39.520,0:02:44.009 and it's incentive for me to go buy a virtual reality headset, that's how good it was. 0:02:44.009,0:02:47.637 Check out CCP, and EVE on their website, also links in the description. 0:02:47.637,0:02:49.805 Thanks for flying me out to Iceland. 0:02:49.805,0:02:51.246 I hope you guys enjoyed the video, 0:02:51.246,0:02:54.617 and if you want to see more content from our trip to the Fanfest, 0:02:54.617,0:02:55.964 let me know in the comments. 0:02:55.964,0:02:57.427 I have a ton of extra footage from the trip, 0:02:57.427,0:02:58.864 um, yeah.
