0:00:00.440,0:00:03.540 There is a box, in the corner of my sewing[br]room. 0:00:03.540,0:00:07.259 It is a box whose contents have not seen the[br]light of day for many a month. 0:00:07.259,0:00:10.670 Many crafters will be familiar with this box,[br]in all of its forms: 0:00:10.670,0:00:14.030 There’s the ever-growing amorphous lump[br]that lies underneath your desk… 0:00:14.030,0:00:18.760 The monster underneath your bed…[br]The stuff you vacuum-packed in a fit of organization 0:00:18.760,0:00:22.199 and stuffed into your garage in the hopes[br]that you’d never have to deal with it again… 0:00:22.199,0:00:25.480 This, my friends, is the UNFINISHED SEWING[br]PILE. 0:00:25.480,0:00:39.590 Hi! So I’m starting this new series on my[br]channel. I have this box here, sitting in 0:00:39.590,0:00:43.690 the my bottom of craft room, that’s filled[br]with half-finished projects and a bunch of 0:00:43.690,0:00:49.800 thrifted clothes that I bought... some...[br]years ago, that I had all the intentions of 0:00:49.800,0:00:56.460 fixing and upcycling and making cuter, but[br]then kind of just threw them in here and forgot 0:00:56.460,0:01:03.559 about them and have been ignoring them for[br]a long time. But, as you can see – it’s 0:01:03.559,0:01:08.340 turning into a little bit of a problem.[br]So, in each episode of this new series I’m 0:01:08.340,0:01:13.299 going to be taking one item out of this box[br]and finally fixing it, until the box is empty. 0:01:13.299,0:01:16.590 This series is mostly going to be focused[br]on simple fixes, so the videos are going to 0:01:16.590,0:01:21.080 be quite short little episodes, but hopefully[br]they will teach you some more simple sewing 0:01:21.080,0:01:25.200 techniques and cover a lot of the basics,[br]and at the same time help you to make your 0:01:25.200,0:01:29.310 clothes… cuter! Anyway, I’m really excited[br]about this new series and I hope that you 0:01:29.310,0:01:32.430 enjoy it too.[br]Alright, let’s get started on the first project! 0:01:32.430,0:01:36.869 So this is the first item that I pulled out[br]of the box. Now, I’m sure that some people 0:01:36.869,0:01:41.970 would be able to pull off a dress like this[br]with a big ring right in the centre, but I 0:01:41.970,0:01:44.920 am not one of them. It's… definitely not[br]my style. 0:01:44.920,0:01:49.420 So, first thing that I did was to get a small,[br]sharp pair of scissors and carefully cut the 0:01:49.420,0:01:53.369 ring out.[br]Then, I also cut off the loops that held the 0:01:53.369,0:01:54.969 ring in place. 0:01:57.300,0:01:59.300 Now, I’m going to sew the remaining bits 0:01:59.310,0:02:03.909 back together, like this.[br]I thread a regular sewing needle with some 0:02:03.909,0:02:07.579 black thread to match the colour of the dress.[br]To do this, I push the thread through the 0:02:07.579,0:02:14.890 needle’s eye, pull it through, double the[br]thread over and tie a knot in the end. 0:02:14.890,0:02:19.060 This, in my opinion, is the easiest way to hand[br]sew because you don’t run the risk of losing 0:02:19.060,0:02:23.120 the thread’s tail![br]Then, I push the needle up through the back 0:02:23.120,0:02:31.450 of one side, and then down through the front[br]of the other side. Then I repeat this, literally 0:02:31.450,0:02:45.370 about 50 times, to secure the two pieces to[br]eachother very firmly. Then, with the thread 0:02:45.370,0:02:47.810 on the inside of the dress, I tie a knot in[br]it and I cut off the excess. 0:02:55.269,0:03:00.709 When I’m done, it looks like this. And you[br]can’t notice the threads at all unless your 0:03:00.709,0:03:07.780 face is inappropriately close to my boobs,[br]so… success! I really like how this turned 0:03:07.780,0:03:12.099 out, and now I have the cutest little black[br]dress, with an interesting cutout feature, 0:03:12.099,0:03:13.209 to wear out at night. 0:03:22.840,0:03:28.640 And a super BIG thanks to Julia Elms for doing[br]the amazing artwork in the opening title - didn't 0:03:28.640,0:03:29.769 it look amazing??
