WEBVTT 00:00:11.150 --> 00:00:16.059 Hi! Welcome to Get Sewing With Me episode #5 - and today's episode is inspired by one 00:00:16.059 --> 00:00:20.910 of my favourite Youtubers, April, who runs the Youtube channel Coolirpa. Now April does 00:00:20.910 --> 00:00:25.970 this amazing series called "Thrifted Transformations", where she takes a number of items of thrifted 00:00:25.970 --> 00:00:31.460 clothing, that are usually... not super fashionable, and turns them into something really cute 00:00:31.460 --> 00:00:32.640 and modern and trendy! 00:00:32.640 --> 00:00:36.410 Anyway, I've been inspired by this series since the day that she started it. And so 00:00:36.410 --> 00:00:39.660 today, I'm going to do my own little take on April's series by doing my own Thrifted 00:00:39.660 --> 00:00:40.780 Transformation. 00:00:44.000 --> 00:00:49.180 So these are the two items that I have thrifted and that I am going to try and upcycle into 00:00:49.180 --> 00:00:49.980 something cuter. 00:00:49.980 --> 00:00:54.920 The first thing that I thrifted was this dress. Now it's a circle-skirt style dress and it's 00:00:54.930 --> 00:01:00.030 made from a ribbed fabric, so it is actually pretty cute - but it's still a little bit 00:01:00.030 --> 00:01:04.000 boring. I love to wear things with prints and patterns and colours all over them, so 00:01:04.000 --> 00:01:08.680 a plain blue navy dress is just... isn't really my style. 00:01:08.680 --> 00:01:13.460 And I just have to show you all the tag on this dress, because it's... kinda really weird. 00:01:13.460 --> 00:01:20.100 Apparently the brand is "God is Girl" - "Welcome to God is girl. Tomorrow, tomorrow, we walked 00:01:20.100 --> 00:01:23.500 together. thank you hand in hand." 00:01:25.240 --> 00:01:31.120 The second is this blue top. Now I don't like the cut, colour or material used in this top, 00:01:31.120 --> 00:01:34.870 but what I do really like - and what I think will be useful - are these daisies all along 00:01:34.870 --> 00:01:37.590 the sides. So, let's see what we can do with them! 00:01:37.590 --> 00:01:40.460 So the first thing that I did was to chop the flowers off the top. 00:01:40.460 --> 00:01:45.950 They came off in a string, so then I simply cut the connections between them. 00:01:45.950 --> 00:01:51.930 Then, I placed the daisies onto the dress where I thought they’d look then best, evenly 00:01:51.930 --> 00:01:56.930 spaced from each other, to make sure that I had enough flowers, and to preview what 00:01:56.930 --> 00:01:58.100 it would look like. 00:01:58.100 --> 00:02:02.850 Then, one by one, I sewed them on. Now it would be totally possible to use fabric glue 00:02:02.850 --> 00:02:07.080 here instead, if you don’t have the patience to sew, but I thought that sewing the flowers 00:02:07.080 --> 00:02:09.780 on would make them stay on a little bit more strongly. 00:02:09.780 --> 00:02:13.750 Now for those of you who are totally new to sewing, this is what I did to sew the flowers 00:02:13.750 --> 00:02:18.920 on: I threaded a needle with a piece of thread, doubled up the thread, and tied a knot in 00:02:18.920 --> 00:02:22.760 the end. Then I cut off the excess thread. 00:02:22.760 --> 00:02:26.159 I brought the needle up through the back of the dress, through the middle of the flower, 00:02:26.159 --> 00:02:32.299 and then back down. I repeated this 3 times, and then tied a knot in the thread, then cut 00:02:32.299 --> 00:02:35.549 the excess thread off. Then I repeated this for all 40 or so flowers 00:02:35.549 --> 00:02:39.129 on the dress, until it was completely covered. 00:02:39.129 --> 00:02:44.129 Now I don’t like wasting clothes or fabric, so with the blue top that’s had its daisies 00:02:44.129 --> 00:02:47.879 removed, I’m going to use the remaining fabric to make a headscarf! 00:02:47.879 --> 00:02:51.930 I cut a strip of fabric off the top, and cut the circle of fabric open, then folded it 00:02:51.930 --> 00:03:00.590 in half lengthways and sewed down this length like this, using a straight stitch. 00:03:00.590 --> 00:03:12.010 I turned the resulting tube inside out, folded the raw edges down inside the tube, and sewed 00:03:12.010 --> 00:03:22.989 over the top like this. 00:03:22.989 --> 00:03:37.559 So, these are the final transformations! Now, the two don't really go together in an outfit, 00:03:37.559 --> 00:03:40.349 so I'm showing them off here separately. 00:03:40.349 --> 00:03:48.230 So I hope you enjoyed this video, give it a thumbs up if you do want to see more Get 00:03:48.230 --> 00:03:51.840 Sewing With Me videos in the future, so that I know whether or not this series is something 00:03:51.840 --> 00:03:52.749 you want to keep seeing! 00:03:52.749 --> 00:03:56.540 And make sure to go check out April's channel - I guarantee that if you like my videos, 00:03:56.540 --> 00:04:00.319 then you will LOVE hers.
