0:00:00.420,0:00:02.000 [intro music] 0:00:11.580,0:00:12.440 Hi everyone! 0:00:12.440,0:00:15.900 So, today on my channel I’m starting a new[br]series and its going to be called... 0:00:18.520,0:00:22.080 So, I do a lot of sewing and creating things[br]that I don’t actually film and put on my 0:00:22.090,0:00:25.849 YouTube channel - either because I’m[br]making alterations or I’m trying something 0:00:25.849,0:00:30.050 new or I’m making something which requires[br]a lot of specialized equipment like an overlocker. 0:00:30.050,0:00:34.550 But, I thought that it might actually be fun[br]to start filming some of this sewing I do. 0:00:34.550,0:00:38.080 Because while you might have all the equipment[br]necessary or some of the things I do might 0:00:38.080,0:00:40.970 not that simple,[br]you might be able to pick up some tips or 0:00:40.970,0:00:44.330 tricks or things that you might want to purchase[br]in the future. 0:00:44.330,0:00:48.089 So, without further ado...[br]This is the thing that I made today. 0:00:48.089,0:00:52.250 And I want you to all join me as I make it![br]So I started out with this old crop top whose 0:00:52.250,0:00:55.049 pattern I wanted to copy because I like the[br]fit of it. 0:00:55.049,0:00:59.190 And some pink stretchy fabric.[br]I then folded the crop top exactly in half 0:00:59.190,0:01:03.580 and I placed it on the fabric’s fold.[br]Then using a washable fabric marker, I traced 0:01:03.580,0:01:07.119 around this half of the top.[br]Adding a small seam allowance of half an inch 0:01:07.119,0:01:10.159 all around the way around.[br]So, I didn’t trace out the sleeves here. 0:01:10.159,0:01:13.970 This is because I’m going to trace where[br]the shoulder seam is instead. 0:01:13.970,0:01:16.970 To do this, I’m going to be using a curved[br]ruler. 0:01:17.020,0:01:19.800 Now, the curve of the ruler matches the shoulder[br]seam perfectly. 0:01:19.800,0:01:24.370 So I used it to trace out the shoulder.[br]Its kind of hard to see the pen here, 0:01:24.370,0:01:28.410 so, with the help of some computer graphics,[br]this is what I just drew onto my fabric. 0:01:29.700,0:01:33.220 Then, I just cut it out![br]And then I used the same piece to trace and 0:01:33.220,0:01:37.480 cut another shirt piece so that I ended up[br]with two identical pieces. 0:01:37.480,0:01:41.150 One will make the front of the T-shirt and[br]the other will be the back. 0:01:41.150,0:01:45.650 Next up is making the pattern for the sleeves![br]I place the sleeve onto the fabric fold, with 0:01:45.650,0:01:47.700 the stretch going in the opposite direction[br]this time. 0:01:47.700,0:01:52.690 I traced all around the sleeve leaving about[br]half an inch of the seam allowance again. 0:01:52.690,0:01:57.890 And then, I used a curved ruler again to trace[br]out that shoulder seam. 0:01:57.890,0:02:04.890 So then, I cut this out.[br]Used it as a template for another sleeve piece. 0:02:05.250,0:02:09.759 Then I unfolded both of them and...[br]Here are my two sleeve pieces. 0:02:09.760,0:02:14.940 Then, just to make my garment look all *professional*[br]I overlocked the edges of the sleeves and 0:02:15.780,0:02:20.150 the front and the back of the top like this.[br]Overlockers are amazing! 0:02:20.150,0:02:23.480 But if you don’t have one, this is not a[br]necessary step. It's just a step to make things look nice. 0:02:25.640,0:02:29.080 Then I placed the these two top pieces together. 0:02:29.090,0:02:33.930 So, I started sewing them together using a[br]zigzag stitch and... 0:02:33.930,0:02:39.500 Wait! Why am I doing this when I have an overlocker?![br]So, I used the overlocker to serge the two pieces together instead. 0:02:42.980,0:02:44.780 Now, this clip hasn’t been sped up at all! 0:02:44.780,0:02:48.460 This is literally how fast it is when using[br]an overlocker. 0:02:48.480,0:02:50.900 ~OVERLOCKERS!~ 0:02:50.900,0:02:52.900 Seriously though, I love my overlocker. 0:02:52.900,0:02:59.900 [music playing] 0:03:02.220,0:03:04.860 I then tried on the top for size and I have 0:03:04.880,0:03:09.970 to say its looking pretty sexy at this point![br]So, the next step was to hem both the neckline 0:03:09.970,0:03:13.489 and the bottom of the top.[br]Now, if you remember from before, these were 0:03:13.489,0:03:17.790 the raw edges that I overlocked.[br]To both the neckline and the bottom edges 0:03:17.790,0:03:21.720 of the top, I folded these edges up inside[br]the top about half and inch. 0:03:21.720,0:03:26.239 Then I sewed over the top of them using a[br]zigzag stitch with a piece of paper underneath 0:03:26.239,0:03:30.270 to prevent ruffling.[br]I ripped the paper off when it was done and 0:03:30.270,0:03:37.209 this is what the hem looks like! 0:03:37.209,0:03:41.260 Then it was time to sew on the sleeves![br]So, I matched up the sleeve and the top’s 0:03:41.260,0:03:44.459 shoulder seams - right sides together, just[br]like this. 0:03:44.459,0:03:50.480 And I pinned the sleeve all around the arm[br]hole. 0:03:58.020,0:04:00.340 Then I sewed the two together carefully using 0:04:00.340,0:04:02.520 a zigzag stitch. 0:04:06.940,0:04:10.880 And, this is what it looks like! 0:04:14.540,0:04:19.239 I repeated this for the other sleeve and that’s[br]the top finished! 0:04:19.239,0:04:24.870 Now, this is the first stretchy T-shirt that[br]I’ve ever successfully made! 0:04:24.870,0:04:27.490 And I have to say that I’m pretty please[br]with how it's turned out. 0:04:27.490,0:04:29.990 I did have a bit of ruffling going on at the[br]hem, 0:04:29.990,0:04:33.689 and I think that fiddling around with my overlocker[br]settings or getting a walking foot for my 0:04:33.689,0:04:37.270 machine would help me to make better T-shirts[br]in the future. 0:04:37.270,0:04:41.169 So, I would love to hear your feedback about[br]this potential new series! 0:04:41.169,0:04:43.539 And don’t worry, Make Thrift Buy isn’t[br]going anywhere! 0:04:43.539,0:04:46.830 Its still my favourite series to make![br]And I also want to make this a space where 0:04:46.830,0:04:51.550 you can share tips and tricks of your own[br]with me if you have a better method for doing 0:04:51.550,0:04:53.710 something, then let me know.[br]And yeah, that’s it! 0:04:53.710,0:04:55.319 I’ll see you all in the next video![br]Bye! 0:04:57.000,0:04:58.220 [outro music]
