WEBVTT 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Nathan: When you build features for people that have a range of abilities, you 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 end up making something that works for everybody. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Kelly: For me, one of the amazing things even today after 15 years of Microsoft, is 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 how we're inventing new experiences. >>Brett: When we sat down, we're focusing 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 on using vision or no vision, we decided really, we need to work on performance. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 To start narrating, we're going to go down to the Windows key and press enter. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Computer: Windows. Start Windows. Search box. [indistinct] 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Kelly: So right now, we're at about 80% of capacity upon entering co-speak. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 This is about how I would use my computer >>Computer: [indistinct] 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Kelly: That probably sounds like gibberish, but, I mean, once you get used 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 this, it's pretty clear. >>Brett: One of the things that we spend 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 a lot of time looking at is how do you really help develop or be immersed in what 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 it means to be blind. We built in the developing mode a narrator. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Computer: Cancel. Shift. Developer mode enabled. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Brett: So you can see that we've ordered the screen so we press H to jump to the 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 first heading. >>Computer: Heading level 1 Go to Bing 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 homepage. Brett: And it will kind of immerse you in 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 what it feels like to not see right. >>Computer: Click down to change to 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 suggestions view. >>Kelly: Across many applications, when 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 you're typing, whether it's weather, news, Cortana, you're getting search suggestions. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Computer: Fond du Lac, one of one, selected. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Kelly: It's the first time that we're building that level of accessibility into 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 both our screen and our applications. >>Anne: I'm going to flag this message 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Computer: Contact delete button. Move button. Save Flag mode. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Nathan: Xbox looked closely at how we can diversify how people represent 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 themselves. And so, we can see a new set of avatars so that somebody can select 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 an avatar that looks more closely to themselves. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Charles: So with Windows 10, we actually really wanted to do our part and make 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 accessibility great. >>Computer: Enter. Of. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Sean: Whether they need a screen reader, whether it's high contrast, whether it's 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 keyboard only. >>Computer: Add level 3. Draggable. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Yan: It was really about making it more use-able and more intuitive for all of our 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 users. >>Nathan: So in the future, I think the 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 key is really matching the ability of the technology to the ability of the person, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 so everybody can participate. [music] 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 [applause] 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Terry: Hello. Thank you. Thanks so much for being with us here today. You know, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 I've seen that video a few times now, and every single time I watch it, I feel so 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 lucky to be part of this tech industry because what unites all of us is this 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 driving belief that technology can actually serve each of us. The triumph of 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 truly human-led design, like you just saw, is that each of us gets to reap the 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 benefits of technology, that each of us is included and welcome, and that each of us 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 can make our mark on the world. I'm so incredibly proud of our team for throwing 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 their personal passion, their experience, and their very best creativity into each 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 success and new innovation. At Microsoft, we challenge each of our software 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 developers and hardware designers, each of our artists and audio team, each of our 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 production and quality designers to deliver our mission: to empower every 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. I'm Terry Myerson 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 and I lead the Windows and Devices team of Microsoft, and I'm so excited to show you 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 what we've been working on. When we think about the billion people all around world 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 using Windows, we realize each of us is so multi-dimensional. Each of us has 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 different interests and talent, careers and goals. Each of us is multi-layered. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Think about yourself. You may be a gym rat and a gamer, a student and a 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 professional, an artist and an architect, a fantasy football player and a soccer 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 dad. You might be someone who invents solutions that assure accessity, or makes 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 art out of this driving need to make the world a better place. What unites all of 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 us is that we are creators of our individual lives. As creators, we need 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 technology that spans all facets of our lives, with work and play. And we're truly 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 inspired by every person using our products. Consider Sief. He's a college 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 freshman in Bangladesh, a computer programmer, a cyclist, and a total 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Windows 10 super fan. I mean, seriously, when Sief was just 15 years old, he joins 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 the Windows Insiders program and starts emailing me daily with his ideas for how 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 to improve Windows. So, I wasn't surprised that just recently, he and his two 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 classmates just used their Surface and Windows 10 laptops to enter the United 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Nations Shake it Out contest to help people in the earthquake-prone areas in 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 India. These are creators who are using technology to build a better world for all 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 of us. Or, consider Carrie. She's a 10-year-old girl, a soccer player, a gamer 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 and a cancer survivor. Her father reached out to us on LinkedIn and shared that 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Xbox was a brilliant part of her recuperation. She didn't just play Xbox1 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 to occupy herself. She played Fifa, Forza, Minecraft with her friends to strengthen 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 her friendships while recovering from her treatment. This is a creator who is 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 building a community with technology. And then there's Pearson Education. A textbook 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 publisher and a pioneer in personalized learning. So Pearson is using Microsoft 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 hololens, the world's first fully self-contained holographic computer to 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 create cutting edge programs that span education of high school students in 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 science to training nurses on holographic patients. This is a creator who is 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 building revolutionary new ways to to educate all types of students. So 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 however many layers represent you, whatever hats you wear, wherever you work, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 wherever you refuel yourself, we build Windows to be your place to create and 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 play. Windows is your think tank, your office, your studio. It's your archive, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 gallery, workshop. It's your arena. It's your sanctuary, and above all, Windows 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 is your kitchen table where everything just gets done. With Windows, we want to 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 create real depth at both ends of the human experience, how we work, and how 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 we play, alone and together. With the initial voices of Windows 10, we began 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 laying the foundation with Windows Ink, Pen, with Windows Holographic and 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Hololins, with Xbox on Windows 10. And because we understand that your 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 information is digital treasure in this online world, we'll be continuously 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 updating Windows to secure your identity, your information, and your devices. Today, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 we are so humbled by you, the over 400 million people that are now using Widnows 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 10. That's over 600 people who chose Windows 10 every minute of every hour of 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 every day for the last year, and have spent over 200 billion hours of their 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 lives on Windows 10. That's as if there's been a 500% increase in gaming on Windows 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 10, and there are now 3 times as many developers building apps for Windows 10. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 And because we're so inspired by Sief, Carrie, Pearson, and countless other 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 creators who rely on Windows 10, we've set an even bolder ambition: 15 months and 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 400 million users later, we are going to multiply your productivity with 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 creativity. We're going to magnify gaming with state-of-the-art 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 competitions. So, today, I'm so excited to announce the next release of Windows 10 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 that will ship this coming spring, for free, to every Windows 10 device, whether 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 you own one now, or buy a great new one this holiday, you're going to find 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 unparalleled new ways to create and play. You're going to find new experiences 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 that place your most important people right at the center of your digital life, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 and you're going to find new experiences for the creator in everyone. And that is 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 why we have named this release the Windows 10 Creators Update. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 [applause] 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Now, as much as I wanted to show you everything in the update, there's just too 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 much innovation to walk through this morning, so we're going to focus on the 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 three most important areas in the Creators update. First, we're expanding our vision 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 for mixed reality, which includes virtual reality, augmented reality, and 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 holographic computing, with 3D for everyone. So each of us can create, share, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 and experience 3D and mixed reality. Second, gamers can experience the best 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 of orkay gaming in any game broadcasting. And third, everyone will have a faster way 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 to connect and share with the people who matter most - their family, their friends, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 their collaborators, and fellow gamers. Let's take a look at the first - 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 empowering everyone to be a 3D creator. Microsoft Office on Windows has always 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 stood for helping you be your most productive self. We're the silent partner, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 always working in the background, so you can get the work that matters the most 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 done. Today, for most of us, productivity is defined by 2D emails, documents, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 spreadsheets, and slides. We think in 2D. We grew up with 2D color by numbers. We 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 output 2D. Yet, the next generation is growing up with 3D right from the start. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Last month, I attended Minecon, our annual Minecraft event with 14,000 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 attendees. I watched thousands of kids interact fluently with their 3D Minecraft 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 world, editing in 3D with ease, moving around in 3D world as naturally as we 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 scroll through a document. With the Creator's update, we asked ourselves, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 "What can Windows do to unleash the 3D creator within each of us? How can we 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 help you use 3D to think new thoughts? To gain new insights? To accelerate new 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 learning?" Please welcome Megan, our product leader, who has been pioneering 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 our 2D to 3D journey within Microsoft to show you the possibilities with the 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Windows 10 Creators Update. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 [applause] 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Narrator: Creativity. I guess you can say we've been at it for quite some 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 time. What begins as the tiniest flicker of an idea has the power to evolve into 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 something you'd never expect. Everyday, you get the chance to look around and 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 wonder, "What if?" How can we bring our ideas to life? Creativity is a part of us. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 It's woven right into our DNA. Once we allow our boldest ideas out, they can find 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 their place in the world. And our world is three-dimensional, full of perspective, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 shape, and depth. So, isn't it time we started using all of those dimensions? 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 3D helps us to see more, to create more, to understand each other. Technology is 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 my canvas and my source for inspiration. Now, it's given me a place for new ideas 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 to take shape. 3D means sharing with one another in a totally different way. We've 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 always been creators, and our next evolution is here. Imagine what you'll do. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 [applause] 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Megan: Humanity's progress has always been marked by our creativity. Creativity 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 is a fundamental human need. We create to evolve as a species, to express our 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 biggest ideas. We create to solve problems and we create to tell our stories and 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 stimulate our minds. At Microsoft, we believe if we can empower the world with 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 3D, we will unlock a new era of creativity that can enhance your ideas and your 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 storytelling. A new era of innovation that allows you to work seamlessly across 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 your screen and into the physical world around you. A new era of computing that 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 enables each and every person on the planet to achieve more. I'm Megan Saunders 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 and today, we're going to show you how anyone can create, share, and experience 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 3D. I"m proud to announce that the Windows 10 Creators Update, 3D is for Everyone. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 [applause] 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Now, everyone is a big goal, so where do we begin? Let's take a look at a video 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 featuring our next generation of creators. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Teacher: Come on in, take a seat. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Student: When I first heard 3D, I was like, "It'll probably be really harder, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 like bubble letters," but when I saw this, I was like, "Whoa, look at that." 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Woman: Whoa, look at it. It just popped in 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Girl: Yeah, wow! >>Woman: Love how they added those clouds. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 We think that if we can enable the creation of 3D content easily for people, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 that we can unlock a whole new ability for the way that they can create and the 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 way that they can learn new things. >>Female Student: It's just, it's a lot 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 more accessible, and it feels more modern. You just, you don't have to be an expert 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 because literally, in like 5 minutes or less, I was just making whatever I want. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Male Student: Other 3D programs have, like, giant tool bars at the top, and it's 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 hard to find just one thing to do. This is click on the object and all of the 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 options just pop up instantly. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Male Student 2: To be able to mix 2D images with 3D images. So, I took a 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 picture of myself, a little selfie, and I put my face behind it so it looks like 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 I'm floating in outer space. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Female Student 2: I really love the magic selection tools, which I can use to 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 take a photo from real life and put it into my art. In that playful nature of 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 creating, they're learning at the same time. Creativity leads to learning leads 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 to innovation. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Male Student 3: So, in the remix exercise, we each had our own Surface with 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Paint on it. We passed it on every five minutes. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Male Student 4: I started off with this little, really cool robot, three- 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 dimensional object, and it became this flying bunny character, and I thought 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 it was, it was cool. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Female Student 3: Today, I was working on the Statue of Liberty. The clouds and 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 the airplane, and New York City behind it. I actually have the Megalodon tooth that 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 I scanned and actually imported it into the drawing. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Female Student 4: Uh, I always wanted to work in 3D, and now I can. 3D is for 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 everybody. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Male Student: One word to describe this experience. . . 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Female Student: Intuitive. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Female Student 2: Simple 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Female Student 3: Inspirational 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Female Studnet 4: Empowering 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Male Student 2: Dynamic 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Male Student 3: Epic 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Male Student 4: Mind-blowing, I guess 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Female Student: I'd say it's revolutionary. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 [applause] 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Megan: 80% of people aged 12 - 24 believe that creativity is one of the 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 most important things, and in fact, they value it 14 points higher than prior 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 generations. It's this next generation of creators that has inspired what we are 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 about to share with you today. If we can enable them to connect the ideas from 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 their minds to their screens, and then out into the world, we could build this 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 amazing new platform for them to create in new ways, to learn, and to enable them 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 on a path that they might not have otherwise chosen. So, let's begin with 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 creation. If we truly want to make 3D for everyone, then we need to make 3D 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 creation as simple as taking a photo or a video on your phone. Imagine, if you 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 will, that I'm on vacation, and I have gone to visit my brother who lives in 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 San Diego, near the beach, and I just watched my daughters, Maddie and Marina, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 make this beautiful sand castle. And I want to capture what they created, and 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 today, I would be limited to taking a photo or a video, but let's take a look 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 at a new way. I'm going to show you how we can capture this castle, this sand 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 castle, with our Windows Capture 3D Experience. Now, here you can see the 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 sand castle's taking shape in front of me. I'm not only taking something from the 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 physical world and making it digital, I'm also taking something that would have been 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 temporary, and making it permanent. We all know that as the sun goes down at the end 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 of the day, you have to leave your sand castle behind. But, with the magic 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 of scanning, we can take this temporary memory and save it forever. Today, I used 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 HP's Windows Phone, the X3, but we envision this experience on any device. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Now, there it is. I just made a 3D object using my real world for inspiration. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 [applause] 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Megan: But what if I want to get a little more creative? In order to do that, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 I'm going to use a very special member of the Windows family. Paint is a 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 phenomenally popular app. Over 100 billion people use it every month. It is 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 also a program with a lot of history. Over its 30 years, Paint has appealed to 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 generations of aspiring digital artists. For many of us, Paint was the first 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 digital art package that we ever used. Its simplicity enabled everyone to create 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 in 2D. I'm excited to announce that with the Windows 10 Creators Update, we are 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 introducing Paint 3D. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 [applause] 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Megan: Now, some of you might have had a chance to preview Paint, but for the 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 rest of you, I'd like to demonstrate how we're making 3D creation easy for 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 everyone. Now, the most common scenario in Paint is to crop a photo. So, here you 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 can see I've got a daughter, uh, a photo, a photo of my daughter. And I'm going 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 to go ahead and turn this into a 3D memory. So, let's start with a crop here 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 using our Magic Select, which allows me to remove the background from the photo 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 and just keep my daughter. Move this, and I'll move my background over. Now, I'd 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 like to add a few more memories from that day, and I have just the perfect item in 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 mind. That exact same sand castle that I just scanned moments ago is now a 3D 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 object in Paint. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 [applause] 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Megan: Let's go ahead and get my daughters in the scene here. Move them 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 over. Now, I don't really want them sitting in the back. Fortunately, because 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 we are working in true 3D, I can easily move them into the right steps of the 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 scene. There we go. Now, I'd like to add a tree, and the web is always a good 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 place of inspiration for that. So, another way that we're making 3D creation 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 easy for everyone is with remix3d.com. This is a community we're building for 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 people to share, discover, and be inspired by 3D. As you can see, here we 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 are on the homepage, lots of original creations from featured artists. And you 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 might also notice that we have some things that were made in Minecraft. Minecraft is 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 an incredible game that really captures the imagination of its audience. Inside 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 the game, people explore, craft, and create in a rich, 3D world. With the 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Creators Update, not only will you be able to export your creations directly 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 from the game, but you'll also be able to 3D print them from right here, in the 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 community. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 [applause] 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Megan: Now, it's important when you're a creator, that we have a variety of content 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 to choose from. So, as I scroll down, you will also notice some objects, uh, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 that were created in SketchUp. Now, SkecthUp has been a long-time believer 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 in 3D for everyone, which is why we're excited to announce our partnership 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 with Trimble to bring SketchUp and their millions of creators and creations from 3D 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 warehouses to be part of our community. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 [applause] 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Megan: But, I came here to look for a tree, so, let's get looking. There you go. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 So, you can see there's a variety of trees and I'm going to go ahead and select this 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 one here. Now, what you're looking at now is a concept that we call board. Boards 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 allow me to collect many objects from across the community and save them for 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 use for later. So I'm going to go ahead and add this one, uh, to my inspiration 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 board. I'll go ahead and grab one more, so I have some options. And let's go ahead 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 now and get these back into my scene. And the way we're going to do that is 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 here. What you're looking at now is the community directly integrated into Paint. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 We've made it easy for the community to be integrated into any app or experience. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 You can see the exact same homepage we were just on moments ago. And I also have 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 access to my own personal content, including that inspiration board that I 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 just added these trees to. So, let's take a look at that, and I'm just going to 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 drop that tree in. Perfect. I'll just move it over, then I'll just turn that a little 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 bit. Okay, it's looking better, but the top is a little empty, so I'm going to go 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 ahead and add a cloud. And to do that, I'm going to use one of my personally 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 favorite tools, the Doodle tool. The Doodle tool allows me to take any 2D 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 pre-sketched with the Pen and instantly turn it into 3D. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 [applause] 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Megan: There we go. Now, for the sake of time, let's move over to a scene that 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 I've advanced a little bit. We all know that there are two sides to every story, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 and in this case, here is a scene that my daughters have been working on from their 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 own memories of that day at the beach. Now, my girls have been early testers with 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Paint all along the way, and one of their favorite things to do is create their own 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 personal emojis. So, I'm going to go ahead and I'm going to take this emoji, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 uh, and I'm going to do a little bit of Remixing, uh, and make it my own, and I 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 have just the person for inspiration in mind. So, let's start with some paint 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 brushes. The oil brush here, and I'll 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 color along. We've made all of the 2D pens 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 and pencils. We've enabled them to work on any 3D object. There we go, that's a 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 pretty good-looking beard. It's coming together. Now I'm going to go ahead and 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 add some sunglasses. And I'm going to use what we call our Sticker tool for this. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 The sticker tool allows you to take any 2D image and effectively stamp it to a 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 3D object, just like a texture. So, there you go, two very simple, uh, operations 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 here. I was able to customize and personalize my own emoji. Thank you 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 [applause] 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Megan: So, I'm pretty excited about this. Of course, when we're proud of 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 something, we want to share it. So, I'm going to go ahead and publish that to the 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 community. And, as you can see, I have an option to share that on Facebook. So, I 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 will go ahead and do that as well. And, let's give it a second. And now let's go 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 out and check it out on my Facebook page. Now, here you can see, uh, my timeline, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 and there is my 3D memory that I just created in Paint view-able on Facebook 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 for all of my friends and family to see. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 [applause] 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Megan: We've just shown you new ways to create and share in 3D, but that's only 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 part of the story. 3D is a great medium for expressing and it accelerates 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 comprehension to people in their. . . So let's take a look at how it's valuable to 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 people in their everyday experiences. Over the next year, you will see us integrate 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 3D across our most popular Microsoft applications. Let's start by taking a look 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 at PowerPoint and see how 3D can enable you to be creative and productive. I'd 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 like to invite Heather, one of our project managers out on stage to give us a sneak 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 peek. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Heather: Thanks, Megan. >>Megan: Hi, Heather. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Heather: Let's jump right into this presentation I've been making about the 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 common fig tree. Now, I've already captured my key points, but now it's time 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 to add some 3D magic to really drive these points home. I'm going to start by 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 inserting a fig tree, the star of my presentation. So, to do that, I'm going 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 to click on the insert tab. Now, here you can see all of the things that you'd 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 expect, but we've added a new option to be able to insert a 3D model. Just like 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 you saw in Paint, I have full access to the 3D community directly within 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 PowerPoint. So, I've spotted my fig tree, and I'm going to click insert. These are 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 the exact same steps that I would've taken to add a photo or a video, but with 3D, I 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 can change the perspective and the scale to tell the story exactly the way that I 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 want to tell it. I'm going to move this guy to the center. Give him a spin. That 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 looks really good. 3D also enables me to engage my audience even more by adding 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 animation. I can easily do this in my presentation. I'm going to start by 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 duplicating this slide. And then, I'm going to move and rotate the tree to 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 highlight the part I want to focus on. Gonna scale this guy out. And then, I'm 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 going to get this back angle, and I really like this top-down. Then, I'm going to 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 click transitions and select Morph. Here, you can see PowerPoint does all of the 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 heavy lifting for me and creates a beautiful 3D transition. Now, to save some 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 time, I built another version earlier. So, let's have a look at my finished work. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 We're viewing this in slide show mode so you can really see the content come alive. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 I can zoom in on a very specific part of the tree to talk about a detail, and I 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 can mix and match 2D and 3D content to illustrate my point, and here, this 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 would have taken me forever to find a perfect angle in a photograph, but with 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 3D, I simply rotated the tree to match exactly what I was looking for. As you can 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 see, 3D and PowerPoint are a perfect match. The improved engagement and 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 understanding that 3D provides, paired with the great presentation tools, it's so 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 easy to convey your ideas. We can't wait to see the stories that you'll create 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 using 3D and PowerPoint. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 [applause] 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Megan: PowerPoint is just one example of more experiences to come with 3D. Now, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 we've shown you with the Creators update, how we can bring the objects from your 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 physical world into your digital world. Now, let's take a look at how our, we can 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 take this rich 3D content and break it free from your screens with Microsoft 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Hololins. I'd like to bring out one of the designers on our team, Taj, who's going 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 to help us demonstrate this. >>Taj: Hey Megan! 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Megan: Hey Taj! >>Taj: Hey everyone! Alright! 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 [applause] 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Megan: Microsoft Edge was the first browser to bring inking to the web, and 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 now, it's the first browser to fully embrace 3D for everyone. On Hololins, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Microsoft Edge becomes this incredible portal for digital content to enter into 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 your real world as a hologram. Now, Taj is - we've got a camera here that allows 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 you to see all the same holograms that Taj can see just from his viewpoint. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Taj: That's right, Megan. Here on our hololins, we have the same, awesome 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 community that we showcased earlier today, and in it, you can see Megan's creation. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 What's - What's really exciting is that this is mixed reality. We could take this 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 creation and put it right into this space. So, I'm gonna go ahead and select it, and 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 I'm going to place it right about here. Awesome! Looks good, Megan. Nice job. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Megan: Now, this creation started as a real sandcastle that we captured, edited 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 and enhanced, and now it's back here on stage as a hologram. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 [applause] 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Megan: With Windows 10, you can move your content seamlessly from your real 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 world to your digital world, and then back again. Let's take a look at another 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 example with the leader in home renovation and design, Houzz. Today, we want to show 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 you a proof of concept that demonstrates how Houzz users through Microsoft Edge 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 on Hololins can preview products in their own home before they buy. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 [indistinct] 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Megan: Virtual reality immerses you in the digital world. With the Windows 10 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Creators Update, powerful and affordable virtual reality is coming to everyone. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 We're bringing a whole new set of affordable virtual reality accessories 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 to your Windows 10 PC. Now everyone can create, view, and interact with 3D objects 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 in mixed reality, from augmented reality to virtual reality, and everything in 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 between. Taj is now going to put on one of these virtual reality accessories. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Let's see how the same Windows 10 experience we just saw on Hololins now 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 carries over to the virtual world. Taj is standing with - here with me on stage, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 but just like that, he's transported to a beautiful house on the coast. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Taj: So, I'm so excited to share with you all my virtual space, but just quickly 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 note there's a version of me there on screen so you can follow along in the 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 experience. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Megan: And because this is Windows, wherever you choose to go, you'll always 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 have the apps you know and love with you. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Taj: So I'm creating this massive screen where I can watch my beloved 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Sounders play. Go Sounders! I love those guys, they just made the playoffs, so I'm 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 pretty amped about that. And then, on this back wall here, I've created - I have a 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 shelf of all my favorite apps. And to the right, I've got Microsoft Edge opened up, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 with the community. That's the same community I showcased earlier in the 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Hololins demo. And from that, I was able to pull Megan's super-awesome 3D memory 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 and place it here on the shelf with me, all in virtual reality. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Megan: Windows 10 makes these connective mixed reality experiences 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 possible, allowing Taj to take a 3D memory that I created in Paint into his 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 real world with Hololins, and then into his virtual world. But VR also allwos Taj 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 to create new memories. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Taj: Alright, Megan, I've got a great idea. Let me call up Holitour, and I've 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 always wanted to go to Italy to check out the architecture there, so take us to 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Rome. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Megan: Here, Taj is outside the Roman Pantheon in Holitour. VR is an amazing 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 place to enjoy the many 360 degree videos that are available on the web. Holitour is 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 a special experience that takes that idea even further and allows you to explore 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 and interact with new places. It was made for Microsoft Hololins, but here it is in 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 virtual reality, running with Windows 10. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Taj: So, this is incredible. I actually love this space. What's even more amazing 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 is that it's interactive. So, I'm in front of the Pantheon. Let's take a closer look. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Megan: This is just one of the many examples of places that you can visit in 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Holitour, and one of the many experiences that Windows 10 and mixed reality enables. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 That looked like a great trip. Thanks, Taj. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Taj: Thanks, Megan. Thanks, everyone. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 [applause] 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Megan: With the Windows 10 Creators Update, we took a sand castle from the 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 real world, captured it as a digital memory, remixed it with Paint, shared it 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 out on the web, brought it back into the real world as a hologram, and then, into 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 virtual reality. Our content is no longer confined to a digital or physical form. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 It has evolved. By making 3D for everyone, our digital world starts a new, more human 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 journey. Imagine what you'll do. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 [applause] 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Terry: Thanks, Megan. Our tech industry talks a lot about the democratizing 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 effects of technology, and I think we all just saw that happening right here and 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 right now. With the Creators Update, our partners, including HP, Dell, Lenovo, Asus, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 and Acer will be shipping virtual reality headsets like Taj just demo'ed. These 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 headsets will be the first and only to ship with inside-out, 6 degrees of freedom 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 sensors. Unlike every other virtual reality headset in the market today, this 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 means there will be zero need for a separate room, zero need for a complicated 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 setup, and while those other, less immersive accessories today cost over 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 500 dollars, sometimes, most of the time requiring a new, expensive device, we are 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 announcing today that these Creators Update accessories will start at just $299 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 [applause] 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Terry: So with the Creators Update, you and the millions of other Windows 10 users 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 can turn on your laptop and immediately start scanning in 3D, start printingin 3D, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 start creating in 3D, start sharing in 3D, and start experiencing mixed reality. So 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 now, let's talk gaming. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 [upbeat music] 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Terry: That wasn't the Foo Fighters concert or a political convention or the 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 consumers' electronics show in Vegas. That was an e-sports tournament. Last 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 year, more people watched the League of Legends championship, a Windows PC game, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 than the World Series. Young gamers are now spending twice as much time watching 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 people broadcast their game play than they do playing games themselves. This year 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 alone, Minecraft videos have been watched over 50 billion times. I think half of 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 them could have been by my son. Game viewing is just now a real social 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 phenomenon, and this type of passion and innovation is inspiring us to build on 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 the long-term commitment that Microsoft has had to gaming almost from our very 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 beginning. Think flight simulator 30 years ago, or Gears of War 4, Forza Motorsports. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Think Solitaire or our new Xbox 1s, a Windows 10 device that will design the 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 best console gaming experience. Since its launch 15 years ago, Xbox continues to 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 deliver serious fun, no matter where you play, in your living room, or now your 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Windows 10 PC. The Windows 10 Creators Update, we've designed it for e-sports and 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 game broadcasting. Whether you're one of the millions who love watching the most 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 elite gamers battle it out in e-sports, or whether you're an aspiring creator, aiming 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 to reach millions of viewers with your own game play broadcast, Windows 10 will be 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 your platform for gaming glory. Please welcome Jenn from the Xbox team to show 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 you what's new with gaming in the Creators Update. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 [applause] 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Jenn: Thanks, Terry. How are you all doing? 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 [cheers] 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Jenn: Alright! Let's talk gaming! I'm Jenn McCoy, known on Xbox Live as Reardon 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Steel. And gaming has been a big part of my life, ever since I was in school and 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 I'd stay up late every night, playing games with my friends. So, as you can 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 imagine, working on Xbox is a total dream come true. I have three announcements 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 today sharing with you what's coming for gamers with the Windows 10 Creators 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Update. Let me start with game broadcasting. As Terry explained, the 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 popularity and time spent watching gaming is through the roof. And we know there are 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 many reasons why people watch game play today. Sometimes, it's to check out a new 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 game before they buy it. Other times, it's to learn how to play a game better, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 to get through a certain level, or beat a particular boss. And in a lot of cases, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 they're watching for pure entertainment value. It can be just as much fun watching 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 the person streaming as it is playing the game yourself. As a spectator, it looks 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 something like this. My college buddy, Jason, he lives back in Texas, we don't 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 see each other in person very often. We keep up with each other through our 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 shared love of gaming. Here, I'm watching Jason broadcasting his game play of Forza 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Horizon 3. He's streaming using a service called Me, which makes it really easy to 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 watch and to interact with the person broadcasting the game play. In fact, Jason 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 has set it up so people watching can suggest what he do next. Now, look at the 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 buttons on the bottom of the screen. You're going to see one there that says 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 "go off-road." I'm going to click that button and you'll hear me suggest to Jason 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 that he take it off road. >>Computer: Time to off-road that view! 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Jenn: [laughs] There you go! He totally listened. It takes backseat driving to an 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 entirely different place. Watching other people stream their game play is easy, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 but it can be a different story if you want to be the broadcaster. For a lot 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 of people, the idea of broadcasting their game play can be really intimidating. You 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 got to download and set up the software, learn how to configure stream, and then 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 of course, getting folks to actually watch. So, here's my first my first 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 announcement. With the Creators Update, we're making it so each of us can become 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 a game broadcaster because we're building game broadcast technology right into 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Windows. Cool, right? [applause] 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Jenn: Let me jump into my own game, and I'm going to show you how it works. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Alright, here we are in Fortson. Before we start driving, I'm going to show you how 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 easy it is to start a broadcast. I hit Windows G on my keyboard. That's going 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 to bring up the game bar. Then, I'm going to move it over here to the side so I can 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 easily see the broadcast window while I play. Then, all I have to do is click this 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 button to start broadcasting. Just like that, we're live. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 [applause] 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Jenn: It's that simple to start a broadcast right from Windows. Now my 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 friends or followers can watch me broadcasting my game play. Now, I want to 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 ask you all to keep an eye on that chat window on the right-hand side. There's 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 my first viewer. No pressure. Hey DJ Strafe, what do you think about Fortzon 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Horizon 3? Game is an amazing service to broadcast with because there's virtually 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 no lag between my broadcast and what viewers are seeing on their end. So, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 DJ Strafe and I could have a conversation, and it's pretty much real time. We're 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 starting to get more viewers, and that's because Xbox Live is letting my friends 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 and network know that I'm playing. It's helping me build out an audience. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Alright, I"m going to pull off right here. It's a beautiful viewpoint. Now, on 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Xbox Live, we have this thing called Plugs. They're a way for people to come 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 together around similar interests. My Plug is called "The Race in Texas." It's made 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 up of people who are from Texas and who enjoy racing games. And everyone in "The 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Race in Texas" are all able to see when I started broadcasting. They can tune in 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 from anywhere, whether they're on their Xbox One console, on their PC, or even out 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 and about on a smartphone. As a broadcaster, that means I can build out a 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 substantial audience for my stream because it's super accessible. Alright, I think I 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 need to - - >>Game: Notice the chat window. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Jenn: [laughs] These are my friends telling me to pay attention to the chat 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 window again. So, StormAnnie is saying that I should tell y'all about custom tour 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 routes. So, let's do it. Now, y'all know that competition and gaming go 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 hand-in-hand. We see that every day with the massive interest in e-sports. Terry 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 talked about how many people watched the League of Legends championship this past 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 year. And that's, like, the pinnacle of video competitions today. There's also 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 hundreds of smaller championships and tournaments held every year. Typically 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 organized by a game developer or a professional tournament operator. They're 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 the ones who determine the entry qualifications and the rules of play. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 But, now we want to break through another level of tournament competition to players 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 of Xbox Live. One where you determine the rules of competition. So, here's my 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 second announcement: With the Creator's Update, we're giving players the ability 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 to create custom tournaments using Arena on Xbox 5. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 [applause] 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Jenn: Alright, let's go back to my desktop. I'm going to open the Xbox app, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 show you how it works. So, we want to give gamers the ability to create their own 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 tournaments and challenges, just like you would do if you were setting up a fantasy 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 football league, or joining an intramural soccer team. Custom tournaments are a 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 great way that you can compete against your friends. You don't have to qualify 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 for a professional tournament, and you don't have to track everyone's scores 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 offline. Arean on Xbox Live is going to do it all for you. So, the first thing I 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 need to do to set up my tournament is to pick the game. I'm going to pick Killer 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Instinct. KI's a popular fighting game, where you square off against an 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 individual opponent. And with the tournament structure, my friends and I can 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 determine which of us is truly the gaming master. Alright, I'm going to call my 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 tournament the "KI Throwdown." And, let's see, I'll put it on Xbox Live and extend 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 it to all my friends. Then I need to choose a game mode. I'm going to go 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 through Classic Bracket approach. Okay, tournament style. Single elimination or 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 double elimination? Single, definitely. You lose, you're out. Alright, let's set 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 it for tonight, and create my tournament. Invite is out and the countdown to my 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 tournament begins. It's all integrated with Xbox Live, so this service will 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 compile stats and determine a winner, taking the administrative work off of my 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 plate and letting me focus on the playing, and, maybe a little trash talk. Best part 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 is, it doesn't matter which device my friends choose to play on, whether it's 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 a Xbox One console or a PC running Windows 10, Xbox is bringing players together and 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 giving each of us the ability to set up our own custom tournament. So, that was a 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 look at a couple new things that are coming with the Creator's Update for 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 gamers, but you don't have to wait until the spring to get in on the action. There 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 are plenty of amazing games playable right now on one of the most popular Windows 10 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 gaming devices, the new Xbox One S. Starting at only $299, the Xbox One S has 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 been the top-selling console in the US and several other markets for the past 3 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 months. Let me show you why. So, here I am, on the Xbox One S, playing Fortz 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Horizon 3. Now, when I play it on my Xbox One S, connected to a 4K television 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 with high dynamic range, this game looks particularly stunning. The detail on the 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 car is incredible. You can actually see the sparkle and reflection off the sand. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 And of course, if you want the highest possible visual fidelity, you can play 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 games like Fortzon Horizon 3 and Gears of War 4 on your Windows 10 gaming PC, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 and with the Xbox Play Anywhere Program, when you buy one of these games, you get 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 to play it on both the Xbox One and Windows 10 PC for no additional cost. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Your game saves, your progress, your achievements, they're all saved on Xbox 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Live and shared across both platforms. Now for those of you who balance your game 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 play full of movie-watching, you can also watch 4K video by a streaming service like 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Netflix or with the built-in 4K movie player. That brings me to my final 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 announcement. This one is especially for you audio enthusiasts. I'm excited to 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 announce that BitStream Audio pass through including Dolby Atmos support, is coming 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 with the Creators Update for Blurays on Xbox One. Yeah! 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 [applause] 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Jenn: We're building Windows 10 to be the best platform for 4K gaming, and with 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 the Creators Update, we're building it to be the best platform to enable each of 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 us to become a game broadcaster. Thanks y'all. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 [applause] 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Terry: Thanks, Jenn. So, the passion of your game broadcast fans and bracket 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 rights and e-sport athletes will be yours in your Xbox or PC with the Windows 10 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Creators Update. Now, we take a step back and see Megan creating her daughters, or 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Jenn racing with the Racing Texans Club. We look across all of our lives and the 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 common thread between our most productive and our most fun moments are our people, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 the ones we share these moments with. The magic happens when we collaborate with our 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 co-workers. The magic happens when we play with our friends. And today, our people 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 are confined within individual applications, specific social networking 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 apps, an email app, texting aps. With the Creators Update, we are placing people 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 in the center of your Windows experience, right where you want them. We want to 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 inspire true creativity and true connection. Please welcome Allison to 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 show you some of her team's work in the Creators Update. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 [appluase] 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Allison: Thank you, Terry. Hello, everyone. My name is Allison Mahoney, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 and I've spent much of my 15 years here at Microsoft thinking about how to support 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 stronger human connections to technology, and today, I am proud to show you how we 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 are placing people at the center of Windows. Over the last decade, we have 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 seen an incredible explosion of ways to connect with people across our devices. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 What started with the delightful simplicity of email has now grown into 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 a patchwork of applications and services, from Facebook to SharePoint, from 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Messenger to text, from Skype to LinkedIn, each network bringing increasingly 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 innovative ways to connect with a growing network of people. While the benefits of 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 our growing social networks is very clear, it also comes at a cost: complexity. When 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 we talk to our customers, we see a universal truth again and again, that most 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 of our communications happen with a few key people. These are the people who 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 matter most in our day-to-day lives. It's the moments we share with these people 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 that define us. For me, that's my husband Peter and our twin girls, Jillian and 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Taylor, Vicky, a close co-creator of Microsoft and my friend and neighbor, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Pearl. Yet, today, these people are peers amongst the infinite other people. They 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 are buried in our apps. They get lost in the complexity. So, we asked ourselves, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 "What would it mean to prioritize our most important people in Windows?" With the 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Windows 10 Creators Update, we will give you a faster way to connect and share with 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 the people who matter most on any Windows PC. Let's take a look at how the simple 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 presence of your people will give you a faster way to share, a simple way to cut 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 through the noise, and a new way to feel closer to the people who matter most. I 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 want to start with a common task on Windows: sharing. Our goal is to make 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 sharing in Windows as fast and easy as possible. And while it's not complicated, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 there's a lot of steps involved. I still have to find the content, launch the 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 application with the person that I wat to share with, I have to find that person 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 in the application, attach the content, and send. With the Creators Update, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 we'll change this. Would if you could simply drag any content directly to Vicky, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 view the message, and send? Couple steps and you're done. Doesn't matter if you 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 want to share a document or a PowerPoint, picture or a video, the friction is 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 reduced by taking out the steps of making that connection. We will also carry that 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 principle of connecting you quickly to your important people across Windows. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 The Windows sharing experience in any application will now understand my people. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 So here, in the Photos app, we see my daughter skiing, and I want to share this 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 video with my husband. I can quickly link a message, sharing my excitement that 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 it's almost ski season, a big deal in our house, and when I'm ready to share, I 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 go to the Share charm and of course, my people are there, including my husband 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Peter. If I want, I can add a message. Send, and I'm done. With the Creators 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Update, we will give you the fastest way to share with the most important people 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 in your life anywhere in Windows. The next problem we wanted to tackle is something 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 we can all relate to: it's the overload of communication that comes from being 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 so accessible to so many people. It's all too easy to miss communications from the 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 people who matter most. Those few important people get lost among the many. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 How many times has a coworker or your partner or friend texted saying, "Hey, did 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 you get that mail that I sent you?" And too often, we just miss it. With the 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Creators Update, we're going to bring multiple communication applications 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 together and filter them by your most important people in one simple place. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 We'll start by integrating Mail, Skype, and introduce SMS Relay from Windows 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 and Android phones, quickly add Xbox Live, Skype for Business, and of course, making 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 it extendable by our partners. So, when I get that urgent text from my husband 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Peter, who's currently at the store, on his phone and trying to get in touch with 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 me, I'll see it right on my desktop. Then, it's one tap to view the message, and in 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 one single place, I can change from Skype to Mail app, which provides me with a view 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 of my inbox dedicated just to Peter. I can see the mail he's referring to, read 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 the content of that mail, and then quickly respond in the app of my choice. Here, I 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 respond back to his phone using Skype, letting him know I support our daughter 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Taylor's choice of a unicorn cake. Great decision! With Windows 10 Creators Update, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 we will give you a way to cut through the noise, so you never miss a moment with 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 your most important people. Finally, these people aren't just who I talk to the most 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 frequently, they are the closest people in my life. And too often, technology 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 obscures that human connection, the emotion that these relationships represent 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 to us. For these important people, how we communicate, it matters. The Windows 10 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Creators Update will introduce shoulder taps, little nudges that can help you 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 express what you're feeling right on the desktop. Whether that's my daughter Julian 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 reaching out with a heart and a smile, my daughter Taylor, with a playful unicorn, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 created in Paint 3D, of course, or even my coworker Vicky saying that it is time for 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 me to get off the stage with a mic drop. With the Windows 10 Creators Update, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 we will give you a faster way to connect and share with the people who matter most 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 on any Windows PC. In your life, you put people first, and now Windows does, too. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Megan, Jenn, and I have had a chance to show you just some of the highlights 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 coming in the Windows 10 Creators Update, but there is so much more, and I want to 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 give you a sneak peek. Thank you. [applause] 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 [upbeat music] 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 [applause] 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Terry: Thank you. So, with all due humility, I want to share our goal for 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Windows 10. It's to have the effect of Gutenburg press on this next generation. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 We want to free 3D, free mixed reality, free e-sports game broadcasting, and so 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 much more for everyone. This week, we are releasing early builds of the Creators 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Update to all of our Windows Insiders. If you're not a Windows Insider yet, please 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 join us and help us shape this future as part of the world's largest collaborative 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 software project. Now, for technology to serve all of us, we need to ensure that 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 there are devices for each of us. There has to be a breadth of devices to meet the 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 needs of individual creators, like Sief and Carrie, to organizational creators, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 like Pearson Education. A breadth of devices to meet the needs of the most 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 professional creator to the youngest creator. We work harder than anyone to 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 make sure there are devices for everyone, all around the world at all price points, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 phones, tablets, to PCs, 2-in-1s, game consoles, mixed reality devices, IOT 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 devices, and more because it is our mission to ensure that everyone everywhere 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 on the planet can achieve their potential at work and play. And every now and then, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 in pursuing our mission, we see the opportunity to create a new category of 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 device, like we did with Surface, like we did with Xbox, like we did with Hololins. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 And we seize these moments to create something so much more than a product. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 We seek that special alchemy when a device and software pair perfectly to create 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 something new, to create a profound experience. Please welcome Panos, our 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 leader of Microsoft devices. [applause] 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Little Boy: When I grow up, uh, my sister's an engineer, and it's really 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 cool, and I want to be just like her. >>Little Girl: When I grow up, I want 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 to be a drawer. >>Older Boy: I've got this really awesome 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 music teacher. He DJs on the weekends. >>Little Girl 2: Did you know my cousin 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 makes clothes? She designs them and everything, and it's super cool, and 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 that's what I'm going to do when I grow up. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Little Boy 2: I told my teacher that Drew Brees doesn't do algebra, but she 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 said that he uses X's and O's. >>Little Boy 3: My neighbors have a robot, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 and it's super cool, and that's why I want to build a robot when I grow up. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Boy: My older brother always got in trouble for doodling, and look where it 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 got him! >>Girl: People think my sister makes 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 computers, but she says she brings imagination to life. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 [inspiring music] 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 [applause] 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Panos: Uh - that's why you guys called me up, that's cool. Uh, I love that 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 video. There's a bunch of reasons why, I've got to share it with you really 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 quick. And -- and there's -- there's this idea where the product helps bringing all 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 those people's ideas to life, like that's a very, very cool thing to see, and that 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 momentum's real in that, and when you see people doing amazing things like that, it 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 kinda gets you thinking, and that's what we do it for. You know, whether it's 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Hololins or Surface or Xbox or Surface Hub, all these devices are bringing this 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 experience together in such a delightful way, and people are loving these things. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Favorite part about that video, absolute favorite part: at the very end of that 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 video, watch it later, that is the mechanical engineering team and the actual 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Surface design team working together, creating Surface on a Surface. We often 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 talk about how products that we make are nothing more than a reflection of the 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 people that make them, the people that use them, and the people that love them. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 That's what these products are, and they are meant to be seamless in your life. I 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 met a gentleman. I want to tell you his story. Uh, he inspired me. I can't see 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 any of you, but he's here. Lawrence Douglas, are you here? There he is. Hey, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 bud. I'm going to talk about you. I hope this doesn't get hard, but give me just 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 a sec. I met him not too long ago. He's a super fan of Surface, which is just 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 exciting. We learn so much from you. When you talk to us, we hear about it. For 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 those of you watching at home, that's a big deal. We take that feedback, we 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 learn. Lawrence came in, but he came in to tell me what he loves about it. Now, he's 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 a father of 4. He uses a Surface Pro 4, and you know, he works at USC, the 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 University of Southern California. He put all this together, he comes in and says, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 "Panos, I'm so busy. It's unbelievable. It's unbelievable. I'm moving, moving 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 moving, but I got this Surface Pro 4, and I started taking it to work. I stopped 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 using my laptop, like a lot of you here. And, I start to move, from station to 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 station, I do my work. I'm a little bit more versatile." Key, that versatility. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Then he goes on to tell a story. He says, "I get home. I open the kickstand. I sit 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 back. I watch a movie with my wife, my kids. It's pretty awesome." Here's the 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 moment that turned for me when I heard his story 'cause we here that story a lot. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Here's where it turned. He then went on to tell me more stories about how he's a 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 basketball player. That's cool. And he said, "Throw me a basketball. Right when 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 I get it, I know what to do." Now, that's inane. That's something he's known 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 growing up. Then he says, "Hand me a Surface Pen." And something just came out. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 This idea where he used to write growing up to create, and that was such a powerful 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 thing for him. Translating to now a digital pen that he puts on a screen, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 where all of that comes back, all of it, and now he's telling me how he's creating 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 again. Yeah, you can't imagine how I feel when I hear it. That entire summary is 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 kinda representative of what we talked about two years ago, so let me just take 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 us back for just a second. This conflict we talked about when we were launching 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Surface Pro 3, not sure you remember it, but it was when somebody would walk into 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 a store, and they didn't know. They needed a laptop. You were told you needed 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 a laptop, but you were told to buy a tablet 'cause that's what you should want. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 And you'd walk into the store, and you'd ask the RSP or the sales person or even 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 your IT department, "Hey, what should I have?" And the answer should be, "Well, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 what do you want to do?" That's completely gone. We launched Pro 3 and this momentum 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 in this category just spiked. The 2-in-1 category is created. Folks are running 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 after it and this versatility is just exploding! It's awesome to see! Now, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 we have millions and millions of people everyday using a Surface, telling us 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 their story. It's a great story, like Lawrence's. And now you have the Creators 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Update coming, just bringing this pen more to life, bringing touch more to life, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 bringing that versatility, the ability to create more to life. Last year, we 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 introduced the Surface Book. You remember that? We had some fun doing that. We had 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 a good time. [applause] 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Panos: Now, Surface Book today - we're pretty proud of this - but, you know, and 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 I can throw a bunch of data at you, but let me just simplify. Surface Book today 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 has the highest user satisfaction among any current Windows 10 machine out there 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 or any Macbook. All of them. It's way bast -- way past. The question is why, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 why, why is that, how is that. It's that same versatility you needed in Pro 4 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 coming to life in that device, but more importantly, that familiarity that we all 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 have in the laptop form factor and that stability you get from it is real, but the 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 fact that you can take the screen off and hand it to somebody, the fact that you 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 could just do that and show them your work, or take it off and move it, hold it 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 and write, like as if it were a legal pad and you were the best lawyer on the 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 planet, and you might be, but even if you aren't, you can pretend to be, it doesn't 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 matter. That's the versatility. This is my little guy. This is Cosis. That's a 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 picture his sister took. It's for me, the essence of the product, and I'm so 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 proud of this kid. He's such a good kid. He drives so much in me to think harder, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 work harder, but here he is learning, every single night, he takes this posture, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 every night. We're still lucky, he doesn't hide in his room. He does it right there 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 in the living room. He lays on the floor, he does his work. I don't know how, his 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 brain is firing. He's working in OneNote, and he's sharing with his teachers real 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 time. You see that software experience coming to life, but more important than 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 that, you see his brain firing full speed, learning full speed, in ways he couldn't 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 do before. There is no paper and pencil for this kid anymore. It's very -- it's 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 very, very one of these things where you just take it, and you go, "'Kay, this is 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 what it was meant to do." People reverse it, and you know what, when he's done, he 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 reverses it back and he starts typing, but his emotion, his learning abilities are 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 changing here. Now, with Surface Book, we've been lucky. We have a bunch of 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 great customers. They've been giving us a ton of feedback. And that feedback 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 includes, "Hey, how to make the product better," and we do that as fast as we can, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 and it's been pretty awesome to see the uptake and how excited people are. But, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 there's another set of feedback that's been coming in. Comes from gamers. They 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 want more frame rate. They just want it. [laughter] 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Panos: I don't really get it, but I -- they want it. Engineers, they want to spin 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 more parts in Cat, and they don't want any lag, zero. They want to render 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 beautiful parts real-time, all the time. I don't get that either, but they do. And 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 we hear it. Do you know what everybody asks for? Don't answer it, it'd be awful 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 if you were wrong. [laughter] 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Panos: I'd feel terrible. Everyone asks for battery life. Everybody wants more 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 battery. It actually doesn't matter what device you're using. Everybody asks for 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 more. So, here's what we did. We took the Surface Book and we took the high-end 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 product portion, so the top-end skew, if you will. We took the core I7, and then 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 we gave it more. And we fit it in the exact same beautiful design you wanted. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Take a look. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 [upbeat music] 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 [applause] >>Panos: To the Surface Book lineup. This 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 is the most powerful Surface Book yet, by far. It has over two times more graphics 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 than the highest in Surface Book skew on market today. So, we're doubling the 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 performance. It essentially has three times more than that of the highest end 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Macbook Pro 13, so just to put it in context. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 [applause] 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Panos: It pushes a full 1.9 teraflops, but we didn't just update the processor on 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 this product. We made two fundamental moves, improvements, all essential to the 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 details. First thing I really need to point out is this isn't just picking up 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 a processor and dropping it in. I mean, that's not what we're talking about. We 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 had to make full thermo re-designs of the product, but one of the critical 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 dimensions of the product happens to be the envelope design. We talk about how 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 people love the versatility and that's why the customer satisfaction is so high, but 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 all that versatility, don't forget, always comes in something you want to be proud 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 to hold, something that you believe is beautiful, something you want to show 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 other people. That's just a truth in product. And so, we double the 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 performance, we redesign the entire thermal system from the inside, we add 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 essentially, a second fan to be able to move air faster than ever before with a 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 set of hyperbolic cooling fans in the back of the product. So therefore, we can pump 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 up that performance for you and give you everything you need. Here's the other 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 thing we did, fairly simple, we put more batteries in the product. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 [laughter] 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Panos: We gave you 16 hours of battery life, 16. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 [applause] 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Panos: Now Surface Book is pound for pound, without any doubt, the most 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 performant laptop on market, without any doubt. There's no other product, nothing, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 that has that level of battery, that level of computation, that many pixels, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 in that like -- in that like form factor, nothing. It really is the ultimate laptop. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 I hope you like it. [applause] 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Panos: We really think you will. You can pre-order it today, no doubt. Get out 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 there and pre-order it. You're going to get this product in November, and it's 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 for the people really pushing performance. This is it. This is the 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 top-end product that we want -- if you want the top-end, go after it. But here's 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 the deal, not everybody needs all that performance. They just want that 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 performance and versatility. There's a Surface out there for every single person. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 I'm sure of it. Don't forget that, and with the Creators Update coming, and 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 when you see these products continuously getting better, moving faster, helping you 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 drive harder, bringing everything there is to Surface to the table, if you ahven't 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 tried a Surface, please go get your hands on one. Get out there and get one. They 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 start at $899 on Surface Pro, and then you can get into Surface Book for $1499. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Alright, we're going to change here just a little bit. You guys want to hear about 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 a new product? [applause] 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Panos: [clears throat] [laughs] I'm glad you are pumped, sir. Turns out I am, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 too. So, today was always going to be about more than Book, it was going to be 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 more than Pro, it was going to be about something new, and we're going to share 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 that now. We t -- we totally believe that Surface changes the way you produce, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 the way you create, like my little guy, the way you learn. It -- it just changes 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 how you operate and it moves seamlessly through your day. It's about you at the 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 center. It's a reflection of you and what you want to get done. It's about being 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 creative, it's about being productive, and that's what we strive for. I think that's 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 critical. The product I'm going to show you today takes all of that to just one 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 step further. It's going to seem pretty familiar, it's gonna -- it's gonna seem 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 pretty familiar. But it's -- it's gonna feel different. I believe in this thing 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 where your ideas can be one of your most valuable assets, each one of you. I 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 believe that. I also believe that this product will help you bring your ideas 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 to life. I'd like to introduce you to Surface Studio. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 [applause] 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Panos: This is Surface Studio. Uh, I love this product. Isn't it gorgeous? 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Every time we show it to somebody, they -- we get this -- I never like saying a 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 product's beautiful because that's, that's kinda weird, but I gotta tell you, uh, I'm 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 going to show you at home, like take a look at that. Every time we show 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 somebody, I think we hear, "Man, that thing's beautiful." Take a look, so when 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 you look at this product, there's a few ways to kind of wrap your mind around it. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 I'm gonna walk us through a few of those right now. So, uh, first thing to note is 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 we really did build it for creators. We built it for professionals. It's meant -- 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 it's meant, all these ideas, it's meant to transform the way you're gonna work it. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 It has to. It's what it's meant for. It's gonna help you produce what I think in -- 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 in its essence, in everything we designed it around, 'cause we want it to transform 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 the way you create and think about creating. It's kind of built, when you 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 look at it, you can look at both of these, but you look and it's -- it's built to 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 pull you in. And I'll explain that, but it is -- it is all fundamentally made to 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 immerse you into the content or to the creation that you want to work with, and 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 I think that's something to kind of understand as we walk through. If you can 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 remember that, that'd be helpful. Start with the screen though, because if you can 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 see how thin it is here, this is a forged aluminum enclosure, the lines are as 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 seamless. When you have a chance, in the showcase later, get as close to this 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 product as you can, and I want you to look at every subtlety here. There is a 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 collection of so many details that you will not see, and they all come together 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 so beautifully on the product, but start with the enclosure when you have a 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 chance, take a look at it. It's a fully embodied aluminum enclosure. Its housing 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 the thinnest LCD that has ever been created at 1.3 millimeters that sits in 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 this product at this size. [applause] 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Panos: You have to think here, we re-invented the back light, the prism 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 sheets, the color filters, the polarizers, the glass itself, all coming together. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 There's a ton of work that goes into this screen that I think you can kinda feel -- 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 you can kinda feel it, but if you take that 1.3 millimeters and you take that 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 aluminum chasse, this is the thinnest 12 and a half -- it's 12 and a half 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 millimeters -- this is the thinnest desktop monitor ever created, and of 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 course, it has touch, of course it has touch, whatever. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 [applause] 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Panos: Take a look at the front of this product. It's a 28-inch diagonal, that's 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 28 inches across. It pushes 13 and a half million pixels. That's about 63% more 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 than a 4K TV if you're doing the math. On this product, you want to be able to 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 see everything at all times, no matter where you are. The only thing you won't 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 be able to see on this screen specifically is a pixel. The reason for that is the 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 closer you get to it, we want to keep you there. Have you ever walked up to 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 a high-definition TV and got a little too close? You have, clearly. And it's kinda 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 blurry. That's not good for you, by the way, just get further back and get 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 perspective. You've done that? And it just gets more beautiful when you find 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 that perfect -- you can find that perfect distance to your TV. This product, no 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 matter where you are, the closer you get, I think, the more refined it gets. The 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 further you get, the more perspective and beautiful it gets, and it stays with you. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 That is critical. If we're going to keep you in that space, if we're going to keep 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 you immersed in your content and what you're trying to create, I think that's 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 vital. I think that's vital. So now, let's talk about the colors on this screen. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Because when we talk about this idea where you can't see a pixel and you need 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 to see all your content, you also need to be able to see life as it was meant 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 to be. So, we call this TrueColor, and we designed the product for the depth or 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 color within it, and it's kinda -- I'm gonna show you a few things as I walk 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 through this, but the idea is we want to render the deepest reds possible, we 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 want to bring you the truest blues possible, we want to bring you the most 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 vibrant greens you can live with to just bring the real world as you know it. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Okay, think if you were a movie director. If you're making a movie, if that's what 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 you're doing, you want to make it as the world's meant to see it in real color and 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 real light, that's critical to you. Or, if you're the person watching as intended 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 from the director, you want to see that intent. It's like in real life when you 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 take a photo, don't you want to see the beauty of a photo when you get it? 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Don't your memories come back? All those senses are firing and color being the 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 deepest and richest one. So this product, with its 13 and a half million pixels, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 with a bunch of color calibration that we do with Surface to bring it to life, we're 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 able to get you the most depth you could possibly find in these colors, that then 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 allows the creator to make exactly, render the world, if you will, as he or 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 she believes it needs to be rendered. Now, with the integration with Windows 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 and the device, you hear Terry talking about how those things come together 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 when things light up, here's a subtly for 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 you, if I just click through here, you're going to very, very see some - if you 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 keep clicking - you're just going to see a difference in the screen, just slight, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 subtle changes. Now what I'm doing is I'm moving from DCIP 3, which I think many 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 of you understand, that's cool. [applause] 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Panos: to SRGB on the fly. Why? If I'm going to create in those deep colors, but 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 I'm not sure if my customer or who might be watching this movie has the ability to 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 push this much pixel as somebody, or this much beauty, or this much depth, keep in 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 mind, this there is no monitor on the -- in the planet like this one. Yeah, there's 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 9 -- there's 99% better color than the monitors on the planet, so you're 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 gonna -- e --- there is this world where many are living in SRGB, so when you do 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 create, this idea where I just have one flip, and as I'm creating and writing, and 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 I'll show you that in a bit, you'll find yourself saying, "Ok, here's the beauty 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 of the colors, the depth of the colors, and then here's what it might look like 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 if someone's using an SRGB. I think that's a pretty cool way to design. Kay -- 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 [applause] 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Panos: On top of the color - we call it TrueColor - this idea of immersing you is 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 important, this is a 3 by 2 aspect ratio, and you can see that. You get the depth of 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 color in it. Think of it as four 14-inch displays stitched together, kinda bringing 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 all the information you need right in front of you, all at once. The idea that 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 you can see more patterns, the idea that you can get more information all at once 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 and stay in your product, that will lead you to draw better conclusions. That's 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 real. When we say your ideas are your best work, that's critical that we keep 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 you there, it's critical that you can see everything. I'm going to show you 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 something subtle here. Sometimes, and we've talked about this, sometimes the 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 most subtle things can have the deepest impact. Uh, hey Cortana, bring up the 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Surface Design Doc. >>Cortana: Here's the document about 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Surface Studio design. >>Panos: Kay, so I'm just going to open 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 this document and show it to you. This is Microsoft Word. You're probably familiar 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 with it. I am going to just flip over one page and show you something. I'm holding 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 an 8 and a half by 11 piece of paper, that seems like as in a magic trick, I'm just 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 holding a piece of paper. This paper looks eerily familiar to what's on the screen. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 The reason why I'm showing you that is the device itself has 192 PPI. It is 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 tuned perfectly to Windows to scale it to true life. So, if we were going to 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 bring you TrueColor, what was the other physical pieces we could bring that 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 trigger that innate sense where it felt so familiar. Well, an 8 and a half by 11 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 and well, check this out. That is the same exact product that you see on the 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 screen there. That's a one for one match. [applause] 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Panos: Subtle, yes, but important. One inch on this screen is one inch in real 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 life. What you see is really what you get. This whole idea of print preview is 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 completely gone. As you get into this and you work in it, you stay in it. You stay 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 in it because it's your real world, and then Word comes in, the Mircrosoft 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Office team, and they refine their product so much to bring Studio to life 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 that you get these unbelievable feelings. Look at how clear it is as I flip through 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 here. Isn't that great? It's just got this smooth scrolling. If I wanted more 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 information, I pinch it and I can see so many documents all at one time, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 whether I'm reading a book, whether I'm working through this Surface speck, or I 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 just wanted to get to a certain section and just absorb it, I think it's critical. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Now, we talk about immersing you in this product quite a bit, quite a bit. And 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 so the best way to kinda deal and think about that is I'm going to show you, is 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 to think about the screen first. And we talked about the depth of the screen, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 we talked about how big the screen is, but really, if you're going to design around 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 a screen, and the team called it "designing a floating sheet of pixels" 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 we want you to see this product for the pixels you're working off of, for the 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 screen, for the experiences of the software's brain team. What that means is 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 the hardware has to disappear into the background. It has to fade away, but how? 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 I remember with the team, how we would sit and talk every single night where we 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 had to make the product acoustically very quiet to keep something in. We also knew 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 it had to be visually very, very quiet. And so, how do you do that? Take a look 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 at these chrome arms, and you can see them, this is important. These chrome arms 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 were meant to completely fade into the background. Now, you see light hitting the 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 metal, and they look beautiful, and in -- we're proud of that, and the design team 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 did a incredible job bringing that to life. But what they really do is they're 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 meant to reflect the entire environment. Why? 'Cause when I'm in front of it, when 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 I'm gaining perspective, or when I'm up next to it and I'm drawn into what I'm 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 doing, that's all I should see. The rest should fade to background. Everything 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 else should be absorbed behind me. If I wanted to do a show-me scenario, a 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 show-you scenario, I can move it any way I want and just kinda show you whatever 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 you want, those -- those are those four floating points and they're critical. Now, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 many times, we can read out specs, I can tell you how performant this machine is, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 and it is. And it is -- it is the phenomenal teams that I've -- no question. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 But performance, a lot of times, it's just more than specs. We do a performance demo, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 and you've seen those. But it's more than specs. It is about keeping you in the 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 moment, if we're going to have you creating, if you're going to be producing, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 if you want to stay un-interrupted, you have to find different ways to utilize the 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 product. One of those could be voice or conversation. Built into the product 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 itself, there is a linear micro-ray that sits on the product. So, I can say from 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 across the room what I need, whether it's locked up or not locked up, you can talk 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 to this device. I think that's pretty cool 'cause for me, I use Cortana all the time, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 and it's pretty meaningful. It keeps me connected to what matters most, like 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 here's my best example today: Hey Cortana, add get Mary a gift to my list. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Cortana: Okay, I added that to your list. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Panos: Okay, I operate in this function, so you know it's Mary's birthday today. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 She's my wife. It's October 26th, I'm in New York with all of you fine people, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 she's in Seattle, probably watching right now, so happy birthday. But, to get this 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 gift was important to me, and to stay connected was important to me. You see 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 how I bring it up here, just by calling Cortana and it integrates perfectly. This 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 now integrated into Wonder List, which is really important to me. If you haven't 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 tried Wonder List, give it a shot. All my phones, no matter what platform you 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 may be using, all your phones, your Surface products, any PC, you have Wonder 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 List on it, and that list now carries with me, so I can remember to get Mary a gift. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 I feel like some of you are judging me because you think I haven't bought Mary 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 a gift. This is a demo. And I did get Mary a gift, uh, and, and it's nice. And 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 so, I'm just going to -- it also says I'm rehearsing for presentation, so just to 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 make the point, I've already done that, too. Okay, that's pretty in Cortana, but 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 that same idea to keep you connected or keep you moving or keep you productive, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 we also integrated a Studio HD camera. We call it the Surface Studio Camera for a 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 reason. We really focus here to bring you high-end video conferencing, that was the 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 goal. We wanted to bring auto exposure to you, we wanted to make sure we brought 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 the perfect face base, rendering of color to make sure you look great or as good as 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 you can, or maybe what it looks like in real life, I'm sure it's great. and it 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 also brings Windows Hello for you and your family, if you were to use this product 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 at home and I think that's pretty impactful. Between the camera and the 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 mics, to keep you immersed and keep moving, I think it's pretty important. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Now, this is Surface Studio. It's beautiful. We think you're going to love 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 it as is. It's got the best screen in its class, the performance is going to be 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 unmatched, the Cortana and Skype integration, Microsoft Office coming to 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 life on the product, Windows and Office together have never been better on any 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 given single product ever. What do you think of Surface Studio? 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 [applause] 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Panos: Okay, we've done this before. Surface has always been about more. It was 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 never as simple as just a desktop. Pro was more than a tablet. Book - so much 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 more than a laptop. Even Hub, it's more than just a whiteboard. All of these are 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 category-defining products. Why would Studio be different? Studio is made, made 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 to bring out the creator in you, made to define a new category. It's not just 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 another beautiful PC. It is a product that was made to help get you to your 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 most creative point. You. You. Doesn't matter how you create. I'm going to take 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 you back. Do you remember David William Hearn? Remember last year I talked about 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 David William Hearn? He's a composer. He makes symphonies. He inspires me. What a 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 lovely human being. But he makes his symphonies on Surface. Let's try this. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Hey Cortana, play David William Hearn. >>Cortana: Playing David William Hearn. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 >>Panos: Take a listen. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 [music] >>Panos: Ah, so beautiful. Now do you 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 remember? We talked about David. This is David in his flow, where he's creating 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 at his best. He puts his pen to a screen. The hardware disappears to the background. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 He finds his flow, and he makes beautiful symphonies. He's a creator, there's no 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 doubt. What I think what today's about - we're all creators. You don't have to be 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 David or that artist or the designer, or you can be. You could be that office, late 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 at night, working, building their own symphony on a spreadsheet. Or how about 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 your teachers? The teachers who may teach your kids. The impact that they have on 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 the world, aren't they creating? Every single one of us is a creator. They're literally words and pictures. We've 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 built a platform that enables anyone to make a digital book we call a Motion Book. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 And Motion Books have motion, sound, and depth. And to create a Motion Book, it's 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 really important to have a digital work flow. And I'd like to show you how taht 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 works on Studio. So here we go, let me get into my Studio here. Great, got my 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Pen. So I make a book called Mono, which is about an ape-human, of course, don't 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 we all? And my first step is to write the script, so I'm going to jump into Word 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 here. This is my Mono script. I'm pretty happy with my script. I'm just going 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 to pick my Pen and I'm going to focus on this area, close-up of Mono, hopefully 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 you can see that. And the step after the script is to work on thumbnails. And 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 thumbnails are a sketch of the action, so I'm moving from Word to Pictures, so I'm 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 going to put in, uh, Mono here. So, I'm going to put in his, uh, shoulder, his 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 back, bit of a neck, and his face. He's a pretty hairy guy, so there we go. Bit 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 of an eye here, there a nose, and mouth, ah, that's not too bad. And, I've got a 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 caption, which I'm going to pop up here. And I've got a dialogue, which I will put 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 here. So I'm pretty happy with that, and here, it's very simple to do, but 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 previously, I would be writing in Word, I'd be printing out onto paper, I'd be 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 finding a pencil, I'd be drawing my thumbnails, I'd probably rewrite, reprint, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 staple, un-staple. I've been known to lose my pages, and ultimately, I'd be scanning 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 all of that back in, in order to get back to here and back into my work flow. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 I have none of that problem when I'm working on Studio. So, my next stage is 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 art. So, to tackle my art in layers, I'm in Photoshop, which is a fantastic place 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 to do this, and this is my pencil stage. You can see that. And, I'm going to go up 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 to my 2D pencil and my pencil layer, and here, I'm already thinking about, uh, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Mono's expression. He's not too happy because he's being chased, so let's just 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 get a nice grumpy drawing, and the mouth is very important. There, it's kinda 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 working. And, he's got a strong cheekbone, let's get that in. And I want to get a 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 sense of where his hairline is, and this is the strong jaw. So, I'm pretty happy 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 with that. And, my next stage is to go to my Inks, and Inking is all about 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 layering the blacks. And, here I'm going to pick this brush that I love, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 which is my bone-dry brush. And, we can have some fun. First, I want to get this 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 mark in here, so let's just see if that's working, so semi--strong expression. And, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 we can have some fun with Dial. And I can go in here, and really show you what 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 I'm up to, which is nice to see it big. So, what I love about this brush is like 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 a dry brush. So, it's a bit like a dip pen, very good for doing this hairy guy, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 and, I can get a bit of, uh, the shape going on his, uh, jaw, and we come 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 right in. What I love is Panos talked about how there's no lag. That's a really 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 immediate, so I can -- and I can really modulate and do my strokes here. So, as I 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 come back out, I get a sense of that. And, I'm pretty happy. I'd like to make him a 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 touch more feisty, so here we go. And, my next step is my color. Now, for the color, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 I'm actually going to pop this up, and we can have a look at it. We can get some 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 perspective, and for me, color is about the mood, the lighting, the atmosphere, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 the texture. And it's really good to just sorta stand back at this stage and just 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 have a look at it. This canvas is just huge, you can get totally lost in there. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 And we talked about color, TrueColor, it's so rewarding to see my color on this 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 device.
