It's so dark!

⠀
It's really dark. Is this going to work?
-We just went out to eat for the first time in forever.
-Yeah.
After we finished work,
we went to HARU's place first.
We fed her dog Lady.
This was my first time going to HARU's place.
I mean, this was my first time going to a place HARU has lived at
since she was living alone in a studio apartment in Osaka.
It had been 12 years.
Wait, wasn't it even before that?
13 years?
Maybe about 14 years?
That's crazy.
We're always together anyway.
Time passes by way too fast.
Seriously,
From the time I was a kid until the time I became an adult,
there hasn't been a moment when we haven't been together.
Isn't that crazy?
I'm surprised we've been able to stay together for so long.
Meeting the members,
like, no matter how many more years I have ahead of me,
That is my most precious treasure in life, seriously.
I really do think that.
That's so heavy.
I mean, it just so happened that we became a band.
Like, what are the chances of that?
I wonder why we all attended a dance school.
Eh, didn't you want to make your debut as a dancer?
Yeah, that was the case.
At first, though, the reason why you started liking music
is because of dance music.
-Isn't that weird?
-Yeah.
You might have thought that being in a band was odd.
Maybe that's why I started learning about it.
This kind of life.
You're also getting deep!
We're a band that has a special story,
And...
We're fine with it all,
-so we hope to have fun conveying (our roots and personalities) to lots of people.
-That's true.
I think there are a lot of people who know about all that.
Depending on when you learn about us,
we're always in a different mode,
so I think each person has their own image of us.
But we've been doing this for 14 years,
and I think it'd be best if we could convey that this is who we are right now.
Recently, we've been talking a lot about what the best way would be to let people know who we currently are.
It's because I think we're really cool right now!
I'm speaking for myself,
-and our music too.
-This truly is the best we've ever been.
-We're not denying who we used to be.
-No, we're not.
We've been fighting against those feelings every day lately.
We never do anything but talk about the band
I mean, the only thing we talk about is the band.
Like today,
we started rehearsals at 1 pm
and then had a meeting.
So, like...
How many hours do we talk about the band?
Right?
You know, I recently started up the DAISY PROJECT,
and on YouTube I intentionally increased the time I actively talk about things other than music.
By talking about things unrelated [to music],
it naturally conveys my personality, right?
Isn't it because you've aaalways been writing blogs?
I've written them since before our indie label debut.
Ever since we formed, RINA has always written blogs.
If you think about how she turned that into videos,
it's not like it was that big of a change.
The form is just different.
Also,
because I'm now an adult,
the process of being in a band while growing up increased the things I want to do,
and changed the way I think.
That's normal to go through as a human being.
Yeah.
It feels a little presumptuous to say that you want to properly show that, and to have people understand that,
but that does happen.
But it's the same for everyone.
Yeah.
It's the same for those who see that.
The way you think changes alongside your age.
Your situation changes.
-It's the same for us.
-Yeah.
So, because we'll have easy-to-understand interviews in magazines and such,
what we think at the time will remain as an article,
so there will probably always be people who are like, "But you said this at this time."
They'll go, "I'm a person who thinks like this,"
and will remain that way for several years.
But since they are human beings, they'll then start changing,
and it's a given that they'll be like, "This is what I think now."
A while ago,
in regards to cooking...
It's not that I didn't like it,
but I thought cooking was a hassle.
That was maybe 10 years ago?
10 years ago, when I barely started living on my own,
was when I would say I'm not that good at cooking.
I'm sure there are people who will always have that impression of me.
They'll mention it to you?
When we were on lockdown,
if I made food and posted it on social media,
people would reply with things like, "You can cook after all."
I would think, "Well, of course I can."
You wouldn't be alive if you couldn't!
I think we all have times when we're like, "Of course I can do that."
-There are times when you just want to be seen as a regular adult woman.
-Yeah.
We're both musicians and human beings~
We were young when we had our major label debut,
and I know that gave off the impression we were childish.
Today, HARU let me know for the first time that she watches my YouTube videos.
That made me so happy!
I LINE'd her in the middle of night, asking her if she'd be okay with filming today.
All I do is film on my days off, edit the footage myself, and then upload it,
so on days off...
It's really hard for me to ask the members if it's okay to film.
I feel kind of bad asking on our days off.
If you ask us, we'll adjust our schedules, you know.
I really want to be considerate to you guys!
Nah, like...
When you ask, "Are you free after the meeting tomorrow?",
it makes me go, "Did something happen?"
I can really tell that you're nervous about something.
Like, "Are you in some sort of trouble?"
I'm still pretty nervous to invite you guys out.
Or rather, there are many times when I try to be considerate.
There totally are times when we just go with the flow and go out to eat and stuff.
-We don't often go, "Are you free tomorrow?"
-We don't.
So, getting to chat and have a meal together,
and getting to go to her place for the first time made me happy.
I also got to see her dog Lady.
-She remembered me, right? I think so.
-Yeah.
That made me happy.
She's gotten so big!
Yeah. She's pretty big.
She's the biggest size for a minature dachshund.
She's a big size then~
Yeah, she is. Well,
she's not overweight.
-She's just a big size?
-Yeah.
-I gotta hand it to you. You always film by yourself, don't you?
-Yeah, I always do.
-It's not a livestream, right?
-Right.
-So it's not like any comments are going by.
-Yeah.
But it's a good way to train. We don't have any concerts right now,
so we also don't have MCs to do.
This is speaking practice for me.
That's true.
We have a podcast right now called "Catch up,"
so we still talk about what's going on.
-It's also become a pretty big output for us.
-Yeah.
-It's also a place where we talk about all sorts of thoughts we have.
-Yeah.
That's exactly why it truly conveys our personalities.
It'll make you realize why we play the music we do.
The more we delve into things, the more fun it gets.
-Band-wise.
-Yeah.
Ah, it feels weird filming a YouTube video with HARU.
But it makes me happy.
-I thought, "I finally get to appear."
-No way!
I knew that the other members made small appearances,
so it made me go, "It's finally my turn."
I wish you had told me sooner!
Like,
the members are all extremely considerate, right?
Why didn't you tell me something like, "Let's film together"?
-I mean, that's something that you shouldn't show on camera!
-What are you talking about?!
This is a place where I have complete freedom!
It's a playground.
But it's your own place!
Nah, nah.
I didn't think that the members would want to appear in my videos,
and I felt guilty asking you guys.
That was an incident of me caring too much.
You've done well to keep things up.
For YouTube?
-No, I mean the band.
-Oh, the band?
But I think that's very important.
We can talk about anything,
And we really understand each other,
but we also feel tension and we're considerate towards each other.
I think that's really important.
-I think that's the trick to staying together for a long time.
-Yeah.
Feeling tension sure is something.
-You feel it?
-Yeah.
I totally get that too.
It's because we truly respect each other as people.
What we talk about and how we talk to each other,
I think we do it all properly.
When I ask for questions for a Q&A,
I get a lot of them asking how long we think we'll be a band for.
-We have no idea.
-We don't.
-Honestly speaking.
-Yeah.
We don't know.
We can't promise anything.
This is going to make them really nervous!
But yeah, to be completely honest...
Simply continuing to be a band--and an all-girl band at that,
a lot of energy is needed,
and it can really wear you down.
