This April 1st, millions of people
won't be able to afford their rent.
Like the COVID-19 pandemic itself,
this is the predictable consequence
of a system that was never designed
to keep us safe in the first place.
We were already struggling to get by,
living from paycheck to paycheck.
Now we face illness,
unemployment,
and disaster.
But together, we can get through this.
From this April on, let's keep our rent
and mortgage payments
and defend everyone who can't pay.
Why should we keep fattening
the pockets of the rich
when so many of us are in need?
Banks and landlords should not be able
to go on profiting off our homes
when we have no way to earn money.
That's just common sense.
The government looks out for big business.
It's up to us to look out for each other.
Reach out to your neighbours.
Build defence groups.
Identify local pressure points.
Talk tactics.
Be creative.
Prepare to stop evictions.
The more people who participate
the safer all of us will be.
Together we can overwhelm
the courts and sheriffs
that enforce the special
privileges of the rich.
The virus threatens our lives.
But it also threatens the social order
that was already making
our lives impossible.
Together, we can
outline both of them.
This April
And tell your neighbours
to keep theirs too.
