what's the rarest species in the
tarantula hobby
we're going to count down the top 10
today so stick around
welcome back to the tarantula collective
my name is richard and today we are
counting down the top 10 most expensive
or rare tarantulas in the hobby what
makes a tarantula rare or expensive
essentially is its availability to be a
very cool tarantula that
a lot of people want so the demand is
high or it could be a species
that's very new or very difficult to
breed in captivity so the supply is very
low and the rarity and prices will
depend a lot on what country you're in
but for the sake of this video i've been
looking at the prices and availability
here in the united states
so let's jump right into the list with
number 10 and that is the homo ioma
chileanus with a chilean flame dwarf
tarantula
[Music]
this new world terrestrial dwarf
tarantula comes from
chile and is a highly sought after
species in the hobby
[Music]
their rarity is due in part to their
slow growth
and the difficulty of breeding in
captivity they're not really an
expensive tarantula so much as they are
just hard
to find but when an egg sac is produced
and is out on the market this tarantula
can cost you anywhere from 65 to 100
for a spider lane
there's even people that have purchased
this spider link for much less than that
they may not be the most expensive
species out there but they can
definitely be hard to find so if you see
a dealer with some chilean flames on
sale you better take advantage of it
while you can
now number nine is a facorial old world
tarantula from thailand that's fairly
new to the hobby it's been around for a
couple of years and not too long ago the
first sack produced here in the united
states was
made available and that is the
chilebrochi species electric blue
[Music]
now this gorgeous festorial tarantula is
unique
due to the bright blue coloring on the
inside of its lakes
and though you don't see this species a
whole lot it will spend some time at the
mouth of its burrow showing off those
bright blue lakes
typically a spiderling is going to cost
you around 75
but the larger the specimen the more
expensive it's going to be
now i have a few of these in my
collection and i'm a big fan of them so
if you're into fasorial tarantulas and
you don't have this species you may want
to keep an eye out for one
[Music]
now the number eight tarantula on this
list is the syria pogopous species
valhalla
this old world tarantula is also from
thailand but it is arboreal meaning they
live in the trees
they're sporadically available here in
the us and spiderlings can cost you
anywhere from 150 to 200
apiece again these prices may vary
depending on what country you're in but
this reclusive arboreal tarantula
is very gorgeous i have a spiderling
here in my collection and i'm
very excited to watch him grow number
seven is the zenethisis
[Music]
[Applause]
[Music]
intermediate
commonly known as the venezuelan blue
bloom this new world terrestrial
tarantula
obviously comes from venezuela most
species of zenethisis is gonna cost you
quite a bit it's a fairly new genus to
the hobby and they're highly sought
after both because of their large size
insane feeding response and the
beautiful colors the males get when they
mature here in the united states
spiderling is gonna cost you about 175
but i've seen him go for even more and
though i'm focusing just on the
intermediate
there are a lot of others and
netherlands species that are going to be
just as much number six is the by rupees
samurai zigorum
[Music]
[Applause]
also known as the bornean neon blue leg
tarantula this fossorial species can be
found in the forests of borneo there is
some controversy surrounding how this
species was discovered
studied and eventually introduced into
the hobby as the malaysian government
claims that no permits allowing their
export from the country were ever
awarded
despite that black staying this species
has captured the attention of scientists
and hobbyists alike with their
cream-colored body and neon blue legs
this species has become
very popular and highly sought after
though more spiderlings are available
every week it seems they can still be a
species that's hard to find and when you
do
they can cost you hundreds of dollars
this species is one a lot of you got
upset that i left off
my last rarish tarantula video and
coming in between 200 to 250 dollars per
spiderling this is definitely one of the
rare species of the year now number five
is a tarantula that definitely was on
the list last time but it's just as rare
today
as it was back then and that is the
efonipelma moire
or the mexican jade fuego tarantula
this species was named after one of the
co-founders of the american tarantula
society
and her name is barbara moore the
efonipel memoire comes from the mexican
state of sonora
and has the appearance of a woolly green
bottle blue tarantula but with a thicker
body and legs
most of the species available not just
here in the united states but in other
countries as well
are just spiderlings afauna pellets are
notoriously slow growing so even though
there are a lot of pictures out there
of the more in the wild or ones that
have been captured and used for breeding
there are not many people out there with
full-grown mexican jade fuegos in their
collection i couldn't currently
find any for sale right now through your
major dealers but you may be able to
find someone selling theirs from their
personal collection but when they
are available for sale this species can
cost you anywhere between 250
to 300 for a small spider length number
four
is one of my personal favorite spiders
and it also made the list of rare
tarantulas last time i made a video like
this
and that is the thera-fosinized species
panama more commonly known as the lava
[Music]
spider
[Music]
this new world terrestrial tarantula is
a dwarf species from panama
famous for its bright red and deep black
coloration
and very cool tiger stripe pattern on
the abdomen this unique specimen
is as rare today as it was a couple
years ago even with a lot of captive
breeding going on
here in the united states it seems as
soon as an egg sac is produced
and the slings are posted for sale they
sell out within a week or two
[Music]
which is impressive because a spiderling
can cost you anywhere from 200
to 450 a piece really just depends on
the supply and demand at that moment so
again this is another species if you see
for sale and you've got the extra cash
you may want to jump on the opportunity
while you have it now number three is a
species that i've never even seen in
person
though i do know that there have been a
few sold here in the united states it
seems when the species is imported into
the country there are
very limited number available so i
assume that that's
probably the same no matter what country
you're in and that is the ornithoctin in
a species
honsesh i don't quote me on that
pronunciation because i have no idea if
it's anywhere close
but the common name is much easier which
is the honsej orange earth tiger
tarantula now this old world species
comes from vietnam
and was introduced into the u.s in very
limited quantities
they are very difficult to come across
due to the low number available and the
high demand this gorgeous
asian facorial tarantula is highly
sought after for its unique gold and
blue coloration
and would easily be a jewel in anyone's
collection
number two isn't so much an expensive
tarantula as it is just one that's very
hard to come by i found a few videos on
youtube
of people here in the united states that
had them but finding one for sale seems
to be extremely difficult and that
species
is the theraposine species colombia
[Music]
hit
i was able to find one adult female that
was available for sale for eleven
hundred dollars
and mentions of spiderlings that were
available years ago
ranging anywhere from 50 to 400 apiece
so nailing down the price at this point
is very difficult this tarantula is
commonly known as the colombian
bumblebee dwarf tarantula obviously from
columbia and has a similar look to the
green bottle blue spider links
but mostly their colors are just black
and gold and i guarantee
if i can ever find this species
available for sale i'm gonna pick one up
myself
now number one is a species of tarantula
that a lot of you were very upset i
didn't
include in my last rare and expensive
tarantula video and there were many
reasons for that
mainly i just didn't have any footage of
one but also the legal status of this
species seems to
kind of be up in the air and for the
most part it still kinda is but they are
highly available
around the world and there are a lot of
people in the u.s that have them already
so the number one most rare and
expensive tarantula is the type of
chelana celedonia with a brazilian jewel
tarantula
this species can cost you anywhere from
450 to 650
for a spiderling here in the united
states that is if you can even find
anyone selling them in addition to being
called a brazilian jewel tarantula you
can also find them referred to as candy
shop spiders
and jeweled pink toes this new world
arboreal dwarf
trapdoor spider is very elusive but also
very beautiful
they're native to brazil and spend the
majority of their time hidden behind
their trap door
in their web tunnel up off the ground
being a dwarf species
they don't get very large at all in fact
most don't get over two inches in leg
span
for the most part they're a docile
species but they can be quick to flee or
even
jump to escape any perceived danger and
while filming this little sling
it was quick to give me a tiny little
threat pose this species is very
expensive in most countries and even
entangled in some legal battles here in
the united states they're also
very fragile when they're young and can
easily die if not kept correctly all
which plays into the fact that they are
still considered
very rare without a doubt this is one of
the most iridescent and colorful
tarantulas on this planet now if there's
an extremely rare tarantula that i left
off this list
make sure you tell me about it down
