Down Syndrome - Ability Awareness PSA Video
My name is Chris Burke,
and I work at the National
Down Syndrome Society,
and I am the Good Will Ambassador,
and I go around doing
my public speaking
and try to promote awareness
of people with Down Syndrome,
which is really important
because October is
Down Syndrome Awareness Month,
which is very important to us because they were trying to spread awareness
of people like us with Down Syndrome,
you know, because it's not
about our disability awareness.
It's about our ability awareness
that we're trying to come across.
I'm hoping to see other people
with Down Syndrome
just to do everything and
what they really want to do.
It's about their passion.
It's about what they really good at.
I want them to have the same abilities.
Like, if I can do it, so can they, you know?
And because public speaking
is very important, too,
because there are other people
who are true inspirations, you know,
who we can look up to
with a lot of admiration
which is one of the important
things in life, you know?
And I have very important motto,
which I have as a picture frame,
you know, in my room
here in New York City,
it says, “Obstacles are what you see
when you took your eyes off the goal.
Never take your eyes off the goal
and make your dreams come true,”
which is really important.
We should always believe in yourselves,
work hard, and you should never give up.
In the future, I'm still
working for the NDSS
(for the National Down Syndrome Society).
I still want to stay involved with show
business because that's my passion,
and that's what I’m really good at.
And I'm very proud of that experience,
you know, and it gives me a chance
to do other things besides acting.
You know, who knows
what's going to happen?
Thank you, Regal Cinemas,
for giving us the opportunities
to do something like this, you know,
and it gives us a chance
to be out there in the theaters
that needs to show
people with disabilities
and to think about our abilities.
