Hello and welcome to the 31C3 camera introduction. In this video I'll tell you, which tasks you'll have to fullfill, at the congress, as a camera angel. Your primary task will be operating the camera. This is the camera on its triod. Each camera has a number, which is also indicated on the tripod. In this case number "1". There is also a tally light somewhere - but more on that later. Additonally, there are headphones, with a box on the other end. When you arrive it is best to put them on first, they allow you to talk to the video-mixing angel. If they want to talk to you they will say something like "1 for direction", or "camera 1", just listen for your number at the beginning of a message. There is also a talk-button here, which you can press, it will latch, and you can answer. Depending on what works best for you. Concerning the camera itself: When you arrive at the camera, it usually has a fixed position, showing a total view, or a close up, or whatever. That means as such the camera setting is as intended. If in doubt ask the video-mixing angel whether everythings alright. There are multiple controls on the camera, of which only the zoom is releavant to you. With this type of camera it is located up here. If you press forwards the camera zooms in, If you press backwards it zooms out. Depending on how far down you push the speed will vary, however, most of the time the camera should not be live while you zoom, making this less relevant. As I said, you usually won't have to alter any settings, unless the video-mixing angel explicitly tells you to. There is also this button up here, with different settings, but I would recommend this one. Some cameras have a remote mounted to the tripod's handle, this also allows you to control the zoom, it all varies a bit. The camera is not recoding on its own, so you won't have to press the record-button. This time this is controlled centrally. Let me quickly demonstrate the tally light, it lights up red, whenever your camera is active. If this is the case pay attention and avoid sudden movements. If the speaker leaves the frame, slowly adjust the frame, the tripod will help you to avoid overly fast movements, when configured corretcly. Let's talk about the tripod: Everything should be in balance, meaning even if.. if this is opened up.. you have these locking screws: If it is pointing down it is locked, so don't apply force to it, but open the screw first. It should be steady like this. The camera should not drop towards either side, it should stay like this. It it does not, just talk to the hall engineering coordinator, they will make sure that the camera is balanced correctly again. What can you adjust on the tripod? The attenuation for tilting the camera, can be controlled using this wheel. As you can see it bounces slightly. The default setting is "2". You can control this bouncing by turning this wheel and resetting it to "0". The camera remains steady almost on its own. If you have the camera in a raised position and have to point it down all the time, you can use a loose setting to disable the suspension, which would make it tilt back completely. A medium setting is almost always correct. The same goes for the lower level. This is the wheel for the rotational axis, if I set it to "2" it is relatively stiff, if I set it to "0" it is relatively loose. After changing the setting you'll have to pivot back and forth a bit to make it latch, otherwise it is not current. I would recommend "1", which is quite alright. And again for this joint, if this is sticking out, do not apply force to the tripod, it will damage the tripod, instead swing this in, which makes the axis turn easily. Usually the lower axis should not be locked. The upper one might be sensible on occasion, but the lower one under no circumstances. Don't adjust the height of the tripod on the screws down there, one of us will make the adjustment if necessary. Another related topic is this: Never film the audience! Make sure that faces are visible under no circumstances! Of course, if someone runs in front of a camera it is their own fault, the video-mixing angel will also ensure to switch to another camera in this case. But when there is an audience question don't turn the camera around to film it. It is the usual policy at CCC events, particularly at the congress, not to show the audience. If you enter the hall for your shift, don't go straight for a camera. Instead meet at the video-mixing table. In hall 1 and 2 this is at the front, in hall 6 and G it is at the back, you'll see it immediately, there are many monitors and control panels. Wait there until all camera angels for the hall are present and then determine, who operates which camera. This way the video-mixing angel and the hall coordinator are aware everyone is present and doesn't have to call the heaven to organize new people. If you have any problems just talk to the hall engineering coordinator. Alright, that should be it, if there are any changes, they will be in the angelsystem, there is a "News" section, just check if we announced anything. Have fun!
