Multi-process Firefox
is an architectural change that sets us up
for some exciting changes
coming in the future
with Project Quantum.
It makes everything faster,
less likely to crash
and when it does crash
recovery is much easier
and lays the foundation
for security improvements
coming with sandboxing.
Right right right.
If you think about
the children's Goldilocks story,
you can be too cool,
you can be too hot
or you can be just right.
The porridge is too hot.
For example, Chrome uses a process
for every site you visit,
which can use too much
of your system resources
bringing your computer to a crawl.
If you're using too few processes,
the porridge is cold.
Firefox started off
with one content process
and that was a little bit cool.
it didn't give us the performance
and the isolation we were looking for.
We've balanced with four processes
that we think is just right,
which uses more memory than one process
but not so much as to get out of control
and slow down your entire system.
Project Quantum is going to make Firefox
silky smooth and super fast.
I'm done.
