0:03:19.108,0:03:22.244 so that's gad generalized anxiety disorder 0:03:23.135,0:03:26.906 and as with all of the things that i talk about 0:03:26.906,0:03:30.322 i mean anxiety disorders have at least like i don't know 0:03:30.337,0:03:34.916 like 50 pages in the dsm so this is a very succinct version 0:03:34.916,0:03:37.887 now the next thing i wanna talk about is social phobia 0:03:37.887,0:03:40.164 now many of you talk about having social anxiety 0:03:40.164,0:03:42.958 and from what i can read in the dsm 0:03:42.958,0:03:46.059 social anxieyt isn't actually a diagnosis 0:03:46.059,0:03:49.431 under the anxiety disorders it would be called social phobia 0:03:49.431,0:03:52.915 and they say that the essential feature of social phobia 0:03:52.915,0:03:56.485 is a marked and persistent fear of social or performance 0:03:56.485,0:04:00.842 situations in which embarrassment may occur 0:04:00.842,0:04:05.013 now i find this to be most prevalent with my teen clients 0:04:05.013,0:04:08.283 and my young adult clients the ones in college and stuff 0:04:08.283,0:04:11.854 because we're in social situations a lot and it can be very 0:04:11.854,0:04:14.265 like we may be in a new high school and we're already 0:04:14.265,0:04:16.592 nervous and so then we start to worry about what 0:04:16.592,0:04:18.093 everybody thinks and we don't want to be embarrassed 0:04:18.093,0:04:19.293 and we don't want to embarrass ourselves 0:04:19.293,0:04:22.430 and oh that person's giggling uh they're giggling about me 0:04:22.430,0:04:24.767 and that's kind of how this presents itself 0:04:24.767,0:04:28.701 we think that a lot of times anybody that's giggling 0:04:28.701,0:04:32.473 or looking or somebody is pointing we automatically 0:04:32.473,0:04:34.992 think that they're talking about us we're doing something 0:04:34.992,0:04:37.748 embarrassing and it's terrible so that's kind of what 0:04:37.748,0:04:40.948 social phobia is and under social phobia it says 0:04:40.948,0:04:45.220 social anxiety disorder so that's kind of 0:04:45.220,0:04:50.193 where that falls and that is something that i honestly 0:04:50.193,0:04:54.618 along with all the anxiety disorders it's really important 0:04:54.618,0:04:57.631 that we go to therapy and we talk about this with someone 0:04:57.631,0:05:00.403 and we kind of process it through and in my experience 0:05:00.403,0:05:03.837 CBT cognitive behavioral therapy is the best with this 0:05:03.837,0:05:07.543 because we'll do what we call downward i think it's actually 0:05:07.543,0:05:10.248 technically downward arrow questioning where 0:05:10.248,0:05:15.081 we try to logically talk ourselves out of these you know 0:05:15.081,0:05:18.487 kind of anxiety provoking situations like okay well 0:05:18.487,0:05:22.914 there are 700 people in the cafeteria today 0:05:22.914,0:05:24.760 what are the chances of that person laughing 0:05:24.760,0:05:28.996 is laughing about us, well 1 in 700, well is that really 0:05:28.996,0:05:33.414 you know a high risk situation?
