In time, Solanna the seal maiden
got used to her new world.
Slowly, she learned
how to walk like a girl
and how to talk, though her voice
remained uncommonly high.
The fisherman taught her how to cook,
though she still preferred to
eat her fish raw,
and loved to each bowl
after bowl of seagrass,
and would sometimes eat a wriggling eel
by biting its head off first,
and then swallowing it down whole.
You could see it rolling around
in her belly for ages after.
Because of these tricks, though
to Solanna they weren't tricks,
only the proper way to eat, the
children around were fascinated by her.
