welcome to the largest study on climbing falls for the last 2 years we have measured and analyzed hundreds of Falls big small with heavy and light climbers and one of the main questions I had is how does extra slack affect the fall or more precisely does falling more reduce the pendulum into the wall and how hard the climber is going to hit the wall so long story short yes it does but not always if the catch is soft like in this case we can see the correlation how falling more reduces the horizontal speed however in the case of a hard catch the fall exceeds rope's ability to absorb the impact and the climber is pulled back up and into the wall even harder and then we had some more peculiar discoveries so if you're curious check out the full video
