WEBVTT 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 ♪ [music] ♪ 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 - [Tyler] Now what are the key macro ideas? 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 We're still on like two words so the biggie here, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 "prosperity matters." 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Sounds trivial, but a lot of people actually deny it, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 though I'm not sure they really mean what they're saying. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 They'll say something like, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 "Oh, you know, life was much better back in 1910," or back whenever. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 But I think there's a lot of evidence from economics. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 It can't tell you ethically that a wealthier country 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 is better than a poorer country, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 but it can tell you that most of the things people want, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 they get more of it in wealthier countries. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 And I don't just mean money -- if you look at health, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 infant mortality, the ability to choose a career you want, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 women's rights, minority rights, political liberty, democracy, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 civil liberties... air conditioning!
