0:00:00.000,0:00:03.629 Hello. Today we're going to be discussing[br]the different views available in 0:00:03.629,0:00:08.069 "Computer," and how to change among the views, and how to sort in the different 0:00:08.069,0:00:13.170 views. Now the view that we're in right[br]now is the small icon view. This view is 0:00:13.170,0:00:16.590 good if you have a lot of things in a[br]given folder that you'd like to be able 0:00:16.590,0:00:22.460 to see all at once and if you have very good eyesight and good hand-eye coordination. 0:00:22.460,0:00:28.470 You might decide however you'd like to[br]see things a little bit larger. If you 0:00:28.470,0:00:33.000 right-click on a blank part of the[br]pane, you can choose "View" 0:00:33.000,0:00:36.780 and instead of choosing "Small icons," I[br]might choose medium or large or even 0:00:36.780,0:00:43.680 extra large icons. In all of these views[br]you see an icon representing the object 0:00:43.680,0:00:49.469 as well as the object's name. Once I get[br]into the large icon view, I can actually 0:00:49.469,0:00:55.710 see a thumbnail of one of the pictures[br]in here. There's another way you can 0:00:55.710,0:01:00.300 change among views, but you need to be[br]able to see your menu bar to do that. You 0:01:00.300,0:01:04.199 might not see your menu bar, and if it's[br]hidden you can display it by going to 0:01:04.199,0:01:12.510 Organize-->Layout, and click on "Menu Bar." From here, you have a menu option and you 0:01:12.510,0:01:18.540 have the same views available here that[br]you had by right-clicking. You can go 0:01:18.540,0:01:21.840 through each of the views yourself and[br]see what's available. The one other view 0:01:21.840,0:01:25.799 that I'd really like to point out,[br]however, is the "Details" view. I really 0:01:25.799,0:01:29.310 like this view because it gives you not[br]just the information you had before in 0:01:29.310,0:01:33.360 those small and the large icons views,[br]but it gives you some additional 0:01:33.360,0:01:38.610 information as well: When was the file[br]last modified, what type of file it is, 0:01:38.610,0:01:45.600 what's its size, and if you right-click[br]on the field headings row, you could 0:01:45.600,0:01:54.479 choose to add even additional fields to[br]display. By default your files are 0:01:54.479,0:01:58.590 probably going to be organized[br]alphabetically a-z: first A through to Z 0:01:58.590,0:02:06.119 in the folders, and A to Z in the file[br]names. If you wish to change the order 0:02:06.119,0:02:10.800 when you're in the "Details" view, it's[br]really easy. Maybe I'd like to group all 0:02:10.800,0:02:13.860 of my bitmap images together. I'd like to[br]create a folder 0:02:13.860,0:02:19.830 and put all my bitmap images in. Well, I[br]can just click on the field heading for 0:02:19.830,0:02:24.510 "Type" and if I click on it once,[br]everything will be sorted in ascending 0:02:24.510,0:02:31.410 order by type -- folders first then files. If[br]I click on a type field heading again it 0:02:31.410,0:02:36.810 reverses the sort order so it's sorting[br]in descending order. I'm going to go back 0:02:36.810,0:02:43.410 to having things sorted alphabetically[br]by name. This method of sorting is only 0:02:43.410,0:02:50.310 available in the "Details" view. If I[br]switch to one of the other views -- maybe 0:02:50.310,0:02:58.380 the medium icons view -- I can still sort,[br]but to do so, I would right-click on a 0:02:58.380,0:03:03.450 blank part of the pan' and then choose[br]"Sort by," and select the field I'd like to 0:03:03.450,0:03:08.850 sort by -- again maybe "Date modified" -- maybe I'd like to have all the things that 0:03:08.850,0:03:14.100 were modified fairly recently close[br]together so I can see that I remember that I 0:03:14.100,0:03:19.110 wanted to work with a Word document that I worked with just last week but I don't 0:03:19.110,0:03:24.269 remember what the name of the document was. By sorting according to 0:03:24.269,0:03:28.860 "Last modified," I'd be able to see fairly[br]quickly which document was modified in 0:03:28.860,0:03:36.650 the past week. The sort order and the[br]view that you use do not change the 0:03:36.650,0:03:41.489 contents of the folder; neither one[br]changes the contents of the folder. You 0:03:41.489,0:03:48.000 may use any sort order and any view that you find useful. Sometimes you might want to 0:03:48.000,0:03:52.080 change back and forth between the views; that is entirely your choice. One of the 0:03:52.080,0:03:56.220 advantage of modern operating[br]systems is that you do have the 0:03:56.220,0:04:01.820 customization. So go and choose whatever you'd like to do
