atlanta is a city in a forest
we have uh the largest tree canopy of
any major city in america you can find
hiking trails wherever you are there's
wildness growing in your backyard and it
really creates a kind of magic of living
in a big city and being able to be close
to nature
so the backdrop to this is that the
atlanta police foundation city council
blackwall studios want to level 400
acres of this forest destroy the tree
canopy and accelerate development
accelerate gentrification and they want
to replace this with a mock city for
cops to be able to practice their
particular brand of urban terrorism so
that what happened in the george floyd
rebellion in 2020 never happens again
to that end the atlanta city council has
created the biggest increase in police
budget
of any city in america and we're just
not going to let that happen defend the
forest is an autonomous grassroots
movement
it is a kind of struggle that's blending
the really smart
techniques that land defense struggles
have
discovered and refined in recent years
to actually win environmental movements
and we're taking those techniques and
we're mixing it with the sort of mass
dynamic participatory possibilities of
city-based struggles we will make it
take as long as possible and make it as
expensive as possible for them to copy
and paste their dead world onto a zone
of life
if you hate the fugly ass condos
everywhere you should be out here in the
forest if
sitting in traffic for an hour every day
is killing your soul come spend time in
the forest
basically if you hate the police and you
love atlanta come out here and defend
the forest
