(cough) It's flu season! What do we do? Stay tuned. So it's the winter time. Everybody's getting sick. I was watching on the news. It was like, in the States obviously, 43 states are calling this a - I don't even know - national disaster, or some ridiculous news-like term. But it is the flu season and every year, 5-20 percent of the population gets the flu. And obviously these are state statistics, so I'm sorry for those of you who aren't in the States but that gives you a rough idea. I'm sure it's very similar everywhere. But that means that a lot of us are getting sick. And if we're not getting sick, a lot of people around us are getting sick. Aghh. For germophobes it's like the worst time of the year. But anyway, so what do we do? We have to prepare because the thing is, every year over 200,000 people have hospital - bleh, sometimes I can't talk - hospitalizations due to flu complications. And you know who those people are? That end up in there? The elderly, children, and people who are already sick. And guess what? We sometimes fall in that category. Right? Because we're not eating properly, we're not really taking care of ourselves, and so our immune system is really depressed and we don't really have anything to fight it off. We don't have any of those good bugs that fight off the bad bugs. Right? I think that's what they call them. But anyway, like I said, I'm not a doctor. But we need to prepare. And something I always do every year in preparation, so that I am strong and I can fight, is I get the flu shot. And you know now - like okay, one of my best friends, and I'm not gonna call her out by name but I hope she watches this and she laughs to herself, she's deathly afraid of needles. I mean, one year, cause she works in HR, they gave shots, flu shots, in the office (ah!) she couldn't even handle it - so now it's like a tenth of the size of the needle it used to be. You don't even see it. It's like the smallest needle ever. So for those of you who are afraid, just like look over to the side and like talk to somebody 'cause it will be done before you know it and the needle is not even - I don't even know how it gets in to do what it needs to do - so, flu shot. What else do we do? We hydrate. Now I hear from a lot of you, and I hear from a lot of my clients, "I don't drink water because I'll gain water weight..." No. Not now. Not now. Water is good. Our body needs water and I know, if anything, if you're eating disorder is like a calorie counting, then that doesn't even count. So please fight back against that voice. Do my first task in my workbook. Fight back, because you need to stay hydrated. That's like my number one most scary thing that I hear from my clients is, "I don't drink water." Because we can go longer without food that we can water. So please drink water. Okay. So we're gonna stay hydrated. And we're gonna get our flu shots. Yes, yes, yes. And then, take preventative measures. Take vitamin C. Drink some orange juice in the morning. I'm a huge fan of Emergen-C. And no this is not a plug. If they were paying me that would be awesome, but they're not. But Emergen-C is great. You can throw it in your water. You shake it up. I have like little water bottles that I take with me to work every day and I drink and fill and drink and fill. Right? 'Cause I'm talking all the time. La-La-La. I get really dry. Water. And I just fill it with Emergen-C. Ta-da! I think it has like a thousand-whatever milligrams of Vitamin C to make us strong, so we can fight. Right? Because the flu can really take us out. And the thing that's the worst is because we are already immune system depressed, right? Our immune system is like, "I just can't! I don't have it in me! I'm gonna take a nap!" instead. But, because that's already happening and we are already weak, and we may not be eating enough, the flu really takes us out. And then, guess what? Our little eating disorder is like, "ha ha! I'm gonna take advantage of this and I'm gonna make you do this" and no more! Now you've been feeling sick, you've been throwing up, you've had a fever, no appetite, 'cause that's a bad side effect of getting sick, right? It's like, "ha ha! We win!" No! Bad! Bad eating disorder! No more! Right? 'Cause it kind of takes advantage of when we're down and out and it's like "I'm gonna get you." So, we need to protect ourselves. So make sure you're doing those things. Go get the flu shot. CVS, Walgreens - I want to say it's like $10. I think I paid $10. Plus tax or whatever else they want to charge you for. It probably cost me 15 by the time I was out of there. But, do that. Get that. Get some Emergen-C. They come in a box for like $14, although I live in L.A. so I'm probably getting screwed. It's probably like $9.99 somewhere where you guys are. But, get it. Pick it up. There's Zicam.
