WEBVTT 00:00:00.329 --> 00:00:01.329 Hello! 00:00:01.329 --> 00:00:06.160 Welcome back - if you've missed the first three, this is a 4-part mini series within-a-series 00:00:06.160 --> 00:00:10.900 where I try and reuse a bunch of scrap fabrics that I have in my "Style Pile". 00:00:10.900 --> 00:00:16.431 In the last 3 episodes, we made a fox plushie, an eyemask, some embroidery hoop art, all 00:00:16.431 --> 00:00:21.100 out of scrap fabrics, and in this episode we'll be making a pincushion that sits on 00:00:21.100 --> 00:00:22.100 your wrist. 00:00:22.100 --> 00:00:23.720 So, let's get started! 00:00:23.720 --> 00:00:27.300 The fourth and final project is going to be a wrist pin-cushion! 00:00:27.300 --> 00:00:32.250 So to make this, I grabbed some of this brown, floral fabric, again – apparently I have 00:00:32.250 --> 00:00:36.140 a LOT of scraps of this fabric – and I traced out a circle on it, using the embroidery hoop 00:00:36.140 --> 00:00:38.230 from the previous tutorial. 00:00:38.230 --> 00:00:41.780 For reference, the diameter of the circle is about 5 inches. 00:00:41.780 --> 00:00:43.550 And then I cut this circle out. 00:00:43.550 --> 00:00:48.350 Now what I’m gunna do next is to do a long basting stitch around the edges of the circle, 00:00:48.350 --> 00:00:50.080 and for that I’m going to use a needle and thread. 00:00:50.080 --> 00:00:54.120 Now a basting stitch is a LONG running stitch, that looks like this. 00:00:54.120 --> 00:00:59.010 And after I stitched around the edges, I left my needle threaded, and I pulled on the thread 00:00:59.010 --> 00:01:01.320 carefully… so that this happened. 00:01:01.320 --> 00:01:05.230 I’ve ended up with a little round pouch, with an opening at the top. 00:01:05.230 --> 00:01:09.120 And into that opening, I’m going to be putting in small shredded fabric scraps as filling, 00:01:09.120 --> 00:01:12.850 just like I did for the plushie, until the pin "coshion"... coshion? 00:01:12.850 --> 00:01:15.180 Until the pin CUSHION feels nice and firm. 00:01:20.800 --> 00:01:24.360 And once it was, I pulled the thread tight to close up the hole, and I sewed it closed 00:01:24.360 --> 00:01:27.880 by doing some more stitches around the hole, like this. 00:01:37.880 --> 00:01:41.980 Annnnd when it was all closed, I tied off the thread with a few knots. 00:01:41.990 --> 00:01:43.729 And this is the main part of the pincushion! 00:01:43.729 --> 00:01:48.250 Now, I wanted to turn it into a wrist pin cushion, so, one that’ll sit on my wrist 00:01:48.250 --> 00:01:52.140 like a bracelet while I'm sewing – and because I don’t wanna stab myself with pins while 00:01:52.140 --> 00:01:56.530 I’m wearing it on my wrist, I need something in the way… this old jar lid should work 00:01:56.530 --> 00:01:57.530 well! 00:01:57.530 --> 00:02:01.420 I’ve also seen a tutorial where people can glue it to the top of a jar lid, and put sewing 00:02:01.420 --> 00:02:05.080 stuff inside, which is also a really cute thing you can do – but that’s not what 00:02:05.080 --> 00:02:06.080 I’m doing today. 00:02:06.080 --> 00:02:10.260 So next I spray-painted the lid black, so that it looked less like an old pesto lid, 00:02:13.950 --> 00:02:17.760 and then I measured a piece of elastic around my wrist, added an extra inch to this, so 00:02:17.760 --> 00:02:22.069 it would be comfortable, and then I sewed this elastic piece into a loop. 00:02:22.069 --> 00:02:26.260 Then I put the elastic around the lid like so, and I got a hot glue gun, and I put a 00:02:26.260 --> 00:02:28.800 big glob of glue into the centre... 00:02:30.420 --> 00:02:35.020 …and I used way too much hot glue gun because I don’t know what I'm doing. 00:02:35.020 --> 00:02:36.280 I have a confession to make. 00:02:36.280 --> 00:02:38.330 I have never used a hot glue gun before. 00:02:38.330 --> 00:02:40.150 This is my first time ever using a hot glue gun. 00:02:40.150 --> 00:02:41.150 I know, right?! 00:02:41.150 --> 00:02:44.280 What kind of DIY channel even is this? 00:02:44.280 --> 00:02:45.440 YEAH, okay. 00:02:45.440 --> 00:02:46.580 Slap it on in there. 00:02:46.580 --> 00:02:47.580 This will work. 00:02:47.580 --> 00:02:51.600 I made sure the elastic got glued down in the middle, with the pin cushion on top. 00:02:51.600 --> 00:02:57.110 Then I pressed it down hard and I prayed to the hot glue gun gods, and.. it worked - all 00:02:57.110 --> 00:02:58.110 good! 00:02:58.110 --> 00:03:01.260 Everything is glued into place, and this is what it looks like finished! 00:03:01.260 --> 00:03:05.310 So yeah - I find wrist pin cushions really useful because they move with me when I move 00:03:05.310 --> 00:03:08.400 around my sewing room, because they're literally... stuck on my wrist. 00:03:08.400 --> 00:03:10.910 And it means I don’t forget where I left my pins! 00:03:10.910 --> 00:03:14.280 I also glued a smaller version to the top of my sewing machine, because I’m always 00:03:14.280 --> 00:03:18.210 wishing that I had somewhere to put pins while at my machine… well, now I do! 00:03:18.210 --> 00:03:22.840 Anyway, I hope this mini series gave you all a little bit of inspiration for making something 00:03:22.840 --> 00:03:28.020 out of scrap fabric pieces, or super old worn out clothes, instead of just throwing those 00:03:28.020 --> 00:03:31.280 things all away and adding more unnecessary waste to our landfills. 00:03:31.280 --> 00:03:35.341 Also, these 4 projects make great gifts, they are simple and easy to do, and they'll make 00:03:35.341 --> 00:03:37.319 you feel like you've done something good for the world. 00:03:37.319 --> 00:03:41.690 Also, I found through making this mini-series that working with a limited amount of fabric 00:03:41.690 --> 00:03:46.270 really pushes you to be more creative with what you've got, and I really enjoyed making 00:03:46.270 --> 00:03:48.239 all these projects for that reason. 00:03:48.239 --> 00:03:50.410 It really kicked my sewing brain back into gear! 00:03:50.410 --> 00:03:53.770 And I really think I'd like to try and do more scrap fabric tutorials in the future 00:03:53.770 --> 00:03:58.060 - especially as my scrap fabric pile... well... 00:03:58.060 --> 00:04:01.640 I mean, even after 4 episodes, it still - it still looks like this! 00:04:01.640 --> 00:04:05.090 I hardly even made a dent in it. 00:04:05.090 --> 00:04:06.090 *sigh laugh* So... 00:04:06.090 --> 00:04:08.530 I guess that means plenty more tutorials to come. 00:04:08.530 --> 00:04:11.879 Make sure you're subscribed to my channel to catch all of my future videos, and thank 00:04:11.879 --> 00:04:15.690 you all so much for watching, and if you haven't done it yet go and check out the other 3 episodes. 00:04:15.690 --> 00:04:20.919 I hope you're all having a great day and I'll see you all next time - bye! 00:04:20.919 --> 00:04:24.219 Thank you to all of my supporters on Patreon who help to keep this channel running and 00:04:24.219 --> 00:04:26.530 allow me to continue making videos for you all. 00:04:26.530 --> 00:04:33.520 To become a supporter - and seriously, even $1 a month helps out SO much - go to patreon.com/annikavictoria!
