Hi! My name is Zach, I'm 12 years old and this is the story of the time I walked to cure diabetes. Cheering
I have Type 1 diabetes. My parents first found out about it when I was two.
Even though I have diabetes, I can still do everything my friends can do. I go to school, hang out with my friends, and play with my dog, Sandy.
Of course there's some things I do that most kids don't have to do. I take medicine every day called "insulin."
Insulin helps regulate my blood sugar so I stay healthy.
When I was six I decided I really wanted to make a difference. My Dad said I should go to Congress. So I did!
Patriotic flute music
Congressman Van Hollen, "Hi, you must be Zack."
I shared my story with a member of Congress. He promised to help get more funding for research.
Congressman Van Hollen, "Keep up the good work."
I'm also part of this great team called Zack's Attack.
*Loud cheer from crowd
For the past nine years, Zack's Attack has been part of the JDRF Walk to cure diabetes.
What's really awesome is that the walk takes place at Nationals Park.
Amplified loud speaker Home field of the Washington Nationals.
How many kids can say they've walked on a professional baseball field. I can!
This year there were over 4500 people walking and we raised over $1.4 million dollars for research
Chanting: Zack Attack! Zack Attack!
We want to find a cure for juvenile diabetes
And I'm just doing what I can to make that happen. Uplifiting music
