99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Sure 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 User freedom is predicated, it's based on the idea 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 we first need to understand and appreciate that we have digital rights. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 We're extending our rights that exist in physical spaces to digital spaces. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 And once we understand that, we can then think about and talk about 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 "Well, there is this software and these technologies that we're using 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 and we also have rights specifically relevant to those" 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 So user freedom is the freedom that we have relating to technology and software. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 User freedom is a really important part of our digital right, it's… 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 the slide is not… oh there it is 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Oops, now I have gone too far. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Software freedom is an important piece of user freedom. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 User freedom, I think, it's very difficult for user freedom to exist 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 without software freedom. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 So, software freedom, should I just… Yeah. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Software freedom is a software that you can… 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 I love this picture, ??? for the FSF 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 You can buy this on a t-shirt from them. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 But it's software with 4 freedoms. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 The ability to run a software, to make modifications to the software, 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 to contribute back those changes and to share the software generally. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 There's different licenses that help accomplish this. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Free and Open Source Software is predicated on a legal construct 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 and there's this really special idea called Copyleft where 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 we use copyright, which creates effectively a monopoly, but in order to 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 keep software free and to share it.
