When you give an instrument to a young person that doesn't have any hope, you are giving a world of possibilities. GUSTAVO Musical Education In music, you have to listen to each others, you have to create harmony with other instruments you start to listen differently. When you apply that in the society, you become a different person you are a different human being. I was blessed to be born in a country where we have Maestro José Antonio Abreu and a program called El Sistema. We are all the time together playing and listening to each other, creating harmonies and understanding. YOLA (Youth Orchestra Los Angeles) is a program inspired by El Sistema. It is not just an orchestra. It is not just a music school. It is a program that provides hope and inspiration. Master Abreu always said: "Start small ... And from that, you get bigger and bigger. " It's incredible to see El Sistema in Japan. In Korea. In Sweden. And here in Los Angeles. It's all around the world! They are children... listening and seeing other children, all doing music. And a family is created where everyone trusts each other. I think that's the ideal. Music as a fundamental human right. That for me is the most important thing.
