0:00:03.610,0:00:06.990 Hello! Welcome back to another episode of[br]Make, Thrift, Buy – the show where you send 0:00:06.990,0:00:10.889 in accessories or clothing that you’ve seen[br]on the internet, and then I try and recreate 0:00:10.889,0:00:14.209 it, through a combination of crafting or thrifting[br]or sometimes – both! 0:00:14.209,0:00:18.900 Today’s challenge is this super cute fluffy[br]purse/clutch thing, suggested by Anonymous. 0:00:18.900,0:00:22.700 Now I don’t know why Anonymous didn’t[br]want to leave their name, but you did direct 0:00:22.700,0:00:27.300 me straight to the German Asos website so[br]I know that you are at least from Germany 0:00:27.300,0:00:32.140 or speak German! Detective skills.[br]Also ASOS is where the original purse can 0:00:32.140,0:00:34.960 be found, but it seems to be perpetually out[br]of stock. 0:00:34.960,0:00:37.650 So I thought that I would try and recreate[br]it for myself. 0:00:37.650,0:00:39.150 So, let’s begin! 0:00:39.150,0:00:44.690 So – fluffy fabric. My old arch nemesis.[br]I bought this fake fur fabric for new, from 0:00:44.690,0:00:48.090 spotlight, because I didn’t want to chance[br]another fluffy blue shorts incident by using 0:00:48.090,0:00:52.460 some unknown thrifted material.[br]But, it does appear that any fluffy fabric 0:00:52.460,0:00:53.920 just… goes everywhere . 0:00:53.920,0:00:55.920 DID YOU SEE THAT?! 0:00:55.920,0:00:58.820 Seriously?? Come on.[br]Before I've even started, I’ve pulled off 0:00:58.820,0:01:00.690 enough fluff to make a small animal. 0:01:00.690,0:01:04.379 ANYWAY – once I got over that, I started[br]actually thinking about the project. I decided 0:01:04.379,0:01:08.420 that I wanted to make a clutch, rather than[br]a purse like the ASOS one. I also decided 0:01:08.420,0:01:12.490 that I wanted both sides of the clutch to[br]be furry, unlike the ASOS purse where one 0:01:12.490,0:01:14.350 side is this leathery material. 0:01:14.350,0:01:18.700 So, turning the fake fur over to the wrong[br]side, I drew out two identical rectangles 0:01:18.700,0:01:21.390 with the dimensions 12 inches by 10 inches. 0:01:21.390,0:01:25.180 Then I cut them out – and check it out,[br]my mum got me this rotary cutter for Christmas 0:01:25.180,0:01:32.390 which OH MY GOD makes cutting things SO much[br]easier. LOOK. AT. THAT. So easy. Of course, 0:01:32.390,0:01:35.830 scissors will work just fine if you don’t[br]have a rotary cutter yourself. 0:01:35.830,0:01:39.090 And there’s my two rectangles that will[br]make up the outer part of the clutch. 0:01:39.090,0:01:43.729 Now, for the inner lining. I also cut out[br]2 identical-sized rectangles with some lining 0:01:43.729,0:01:47.729 fabric.[br]And these are the 4 pieces that I will need. 0:01:47.729,0:01:51.700 The next thing that I did was to sew on some[br]googly eyes. I found these googly eyes that 0:01:51.700,0:01:55.710 have this plastic loop on the back so that[br]I can handsew them on instead of just gluing 0:01:55.710,0:01:59.840 them, which wouldn’t be as durable.[br]So, on one piece of outer fabric, I figure 0:01:59.840,0:02:04.250 out where I want the eyes to go and then I[br]sew them on by hand, using a needle and a 0:02:04.250,0:02:08.170 thread. To sew them on I go up through the[br]back of the fabric, through the loop at the 0:02:08.170,0:02:13.410 back of the googly eye and back down, and[br]then up and down a couple more times to secure 0:02:13.410,0:02:19.200 the eye in place, and then I tie a couple[br]of knots in the back to make one big knot 0:02:19.200,0:02:22.319 so that it’s really secure, and then cut[br]off the excess thread. 0:02:22.319,0:02:26.500 Then, I grabbed a zipper. And this zipper[br]is thrifted. The most important thing about 0:02:26.500,0:02:29.970 this zipper, though, is that it needs to be[br]longer than the side of the clutch where you’re 0:02:29.970,0:02:34.300 inserting it. So, my zipper needed to be longer[br]than 12 inches. It’s actually way longer 0:02:34.300,0:02:38.040 than that, but that doesn’t matter because[br]I’ll be cutting it shorter later on. 0:02:38.040,0:02:43.060 Now, to sew the clutch together, first I lay[br]down the lining fabric, then the zipper - right 0:02:43.060,0:02:46.150 side up, and then the fake fur, right side[br]DOWN. 0:02:46.150,0:02:49.500 And I make sure that the top edges of all[br]three are aligned. 0:02:49.500,0:02:54.489 Then, I pin the fabrics and the zip to hold[br]them in place, and I’m going to sew across 0:02:54.489,0:02:56.690 here.[br]However, when I'm sewing I’m going to flip 0:02:56.690,0:03:00.910 it over so that the foot of the sewing machine[br]will be gliding along the lining, rather than 0:03:00.910,0:03:03.099 the rough underside of the fake fur. 0:03:03.099,0:03:07.349 While sewing, I use a straight stitch and[br]a zipper foot. A zipper foot isn’t necessary 0:03:07.349,0:03:12.400 in this step, but it will make life easier![br]Then, going really slowly so my sewing machine 0:03:12.400,0:03:15.379 doesn’t freak out, I sew all three layers[br]together. 0:03:15.379,0:03:19.030 When I’m done with that, I flip everything[br]over so that the right side - the fluffy side 0:03:19.030,0:03:23.580 - of the outer fabric is facing outwards.[br]I also temporarily pin the lining to the outer 0:03:23.580,0:03:26.349 fabric just to keep them out of the way in[br]the next step. 0:03:26.349,0:03:29.159 And the next step is to: repeat the same thing[br]again! 0:03:29.159,0:03:34.180 I lay down the lining fabric, then the zipper[br](with everything attached to it) right side 0:03:34.180,0:03:40.420 up, and the last fake fur piece right side[br]DOWN. I make sure that they're all lined up 0:03:40.420,0:03:45.260 at the top edge, and then I pin them together,[br]and sew across the top like this, but along 0:03:45.260,0:03:46.700 the lining side again. 0:03:51.040,0:03:55.220 At this point, the clutch is looking like[br]this! 0:03:55.220,0:04:00.019 Then I half unzip the zipper, and then I fold[br]the fabrics over so that the two lining pieces 0:04:00.019,0:04:05.690 are on one side, and the two fake fur pieces[br]are on the other side, both right-sides together. 0:04:05.690,0:04:11.680 Then, I pin the zipper so that it’s folded[br]towards the fake fur pieces, cut off the excess 0:04:11.680,0:04:18.609 zipper pieces, and THEN, I sew using a straight[br]stitch around most of the outsides like THIS. 0:04:18.609,0:04:22.689 Make sure that you take extra care while sewing[br]over the zipper. When I got up to the zip, 0:04:22.689,0:04:27.330 I took my foot off the pedal and I used the[br]handwheel instead, to make sure that my needle 0:04:27.330,0:04:30.839 wouldn’t hit the zip and snap. 0:04:30.839,0:04:34.360 Make sure you're leaving a gap in the lining[br]fabric - you don't want to sew it totally 0:04:34.360,0:04:35.849 closed at this point. 0:04:35.849,0:04:39.550 When I had done that, I pulled everything[br]through the hole in the lining, and then 0:04:39.550,0:04:41.550 through the open zipper! 0:04:43.700,0:04:46.920 I also pushed out the corners[br]of the outer fabric, and then I pulled the 0:04:46.930,0:04:52.809 lining out one last time so that I could sew[br]the gap closed, like this. 0:04:52.809,0:04:55.080 And – that’s it you guys! I'm done! 0:04:55.080,0:04:56.900 So - How Did I Gooooo? 0:04:58.800,0:05:02.500 [music plays] 0:05:32.599,0:05:35.430 So can you make this for yourself?[br][scissors snipping sound effect] 0:05:35.430,0:05:39.669 Yes you can! Now obviously you don't have[br]to make it as big and, like, clutch-sized 0:05:39.669,0:05:44.099 as I did, you can make it smaller and more[br]purse-sized like the one on ASOS. All you 0:05:44.099,0:05:47.509 have to do is adjust your measurements according[br]to how big you want it to be, just remembering 0:05:47.509,0:05:51.889 to leave about an inch or so for seam allowance.[br]And, as worried as I was about the fluffy 0:05:51.889,0:05:57.509 fabric going everywhere, once it's all sewed[br]together and there's no raw edges, the fluff 0:05:57.509,0:06:02.479 actually stays on the bag, and it doesn't[br]go everywhere, so, that's a good thing! And 0:06:02.479,0:06:06.669 it's super snuggly and nice and I really like[br]it. I also discovered that if you turn it 0:06:06.669,0:06:10.849 upside down and unzip it, it looks like it[br]has a mouth! Which is another great thing 0:06:10.849,0:06:15.740 about it. As always, if you attempt to make[br]this, or you try out any of my other tutorials, 0:06:15.740,0:06:19.860 then please tag me on instagram with the hashtag[br]#diyannika, because I really love seeing what 0:06:19.860,0:06:22.939 you guys come up with - it makes me really[br]happy! I hope you're all having a good day, 0:06:22.939,0:06:25.009 and I'll see you all for my next video. Bye!
