Real-time documentation of product transfused is a crucial step in the blood administration process. your inufusion pump is the most accurate methods of determining the volume of product transfused that is if the pump is cleared correctly. If you are using one of your modules that is currently in the patient room, you will need to start by clearning out the current voluem that has been stranfused ont he pump and documenting that. So let's start by pausing our pump, going to the volume infused and you will notice that the blue banner reads: "Select Channels to Clear or Press CLEAR ALL" If you select the A channel, where I have my maintenance IV running currently. I can now clear just that channel. Now that I have cleared out my maintenance IV channel, I'll document that amount in MeriterCare and proceed to change my IV pump to Maintenance IV plain to blodd product. In this case lets do packed red blood cells. I will do that by channeling off this module, hitting one of the numbers on the keypad to stop the shut down process. Press CHANNEL SELECT. Choose Guardrail IV fluids. I can scroll down to blood, and I will select packed red blood cells. I will select that and confirm that it is the correct option. Press CONFIRM. And now I am going to start my tranfusion, if I am doing Packed Red Blood cells on an adult patient. I will start at a rate of 50 mL per hour. Select my Rate. Dial in 50. I can estimate my volume to be infused to be about 300 mL. After entering 300 mL, I will start my pump. Now that about 15 minutes has ellaped and I have complete my second set of vitals at 15 minutes. I am going to increase my rate given the that patient hasn't had any signs of a transfusion reaction. The provider had indicated a 2 hour duration fo this, so I need to increase my rate based on that order. So to do I will press channel select, and I can actually use my Alris pump to calculate my new rate. Now that about 12 mL have gone in, I can change duration by pressing the Duration button. And then just changing that to an hour and 45 minutes. Which will, after hitting start, recalculate my rate for me. Confirm "Yes". Now I can see that my rate is 164 and I can let that run for the duration of the transfusion. Now that my infusion is complete, I wil just want to clear my pump so thatI am ready for the next go around. So to do that I will press volume infused, there is my volume that has been infused on the patient: 291 mL. I will select that channel and just clear out that singular channel.
