WEBVTT 00:00:02.117 --> 00:00:02.547 Hey everybody! Happy Thursday 00:00:02.547 --> 00:00:04.534 and since it's Thursday here I actually 00:00:04.534 --> 00:00:06.663 have a bunch of different things to 00:00:06.663 --> 00:00:07.391 talk about today. 00:00:07.391 --> 00:00:08.987 So let's get going! Right? 00:00:08.987 --> 00:00:11.306 The first thing is I'm starting to think 00:00:11.306 --> 00:00:12.978 that our community is growing and I 00:00:12.978 --> 00:00:14.714 know that a lot of you help each other 00:00:14.714 --> 00:00:16.948 like in the comments. You talk amongst 00:00:16.948 --> 00:00:20.244 yourselves on katimorton.com, my website, 00:00:20.244 --> 00:00:21.344 you do the same. 00:00:21.344 --> 00:00:22.725 You really help each other and I was 00:00:22.725 --> 00:00:25.172 thinking, what should we call ourselves 00:00:25.172 --> 00:00:26.333 as a community? 00:00:26.333 --> 00:00:29.310 You know, like uhh Miranda Sings has the 00:00:29.310 --> 00:00:31.318 Mirfandas and PewDiePie has the Bros. 00:00:31.318 --> 00:00:34.797 And uhh, you know Hannah Hart has the 00:00:34.797 --> 00:00:37.718 hartosexuals. Hart-o-sexuals. 00:00:37.718 --> 00:00:40.051 Um, so what should we call ourselves? 00:00:40.051 --> 00:00:42.427 I don't know. 00:00:42.427 --> 00:00:43.713 I wish minions wasn't copyrighted. 00:00:43.713 --> 00:00:45.283 I was talking to Carly about this on 00:00:45.283 --> 00:00:47.886 Twitter and I wish minions had not been 00:00:47.886 --> 00:00:49.845 so popular. But then maybe we wouldn't 00:00:49.845 --> 00:00:52.138 have talked about minions anyways, 00:00:52.138 --> 00:00:52.872 I don't know. 00:00:52.872 --> 00:00:54.660 But, let me know. Leave it in the comments 00:00:54.660 --> 00:00:56.656 Are there any ideas, any cute catchy 00:00:56.656 --> 00:00:58.166 things that we think will be cool as a 00:00:58.166 --> 00:00:59.685 community to call ourselves? 00:00:59.685 --> 00:01:02.381 Because I think it would be cool to have 00:01:02.381 --> 00:01:04.323 that and then when we do meet ups, we get 00:01:04.323 --> 00:01:06.178 together, we do things we have a name for 00:01:06.178 --> 00:01:08.000 it. Maybe I'll make tee shirts. Hey! 00:01:08.000 --> 00:01:09.697 And there are new t-shirts on my 00:01:09.697 --> 00:01:11.328 spread shirt thing. 00:01:11.328 --> 00:01:12.524 I haven't put the ones up for the men yet 00:01:12.524 --> 00:01:13.410 so stay tuned for that. 00:01:13.410 --> 00:01:14.509 But I'm putting those together as well. 00:01:14.509 --> 00:01:16.172 I'm trying to make them a little more 00:01:16.172 --> 00:01:17.877 something that I would want to wear 00:01:17.877 --> 00:01:21.113 that's not just a tree, with fun sayings 00:01:21.113 --> 00:01:22.344 and things like that. So check them out! 00:01:22.344 --> 00:01:24.181 And let me know what you think. 00:01:24.181 --> 00:01:25.712 Okay, so that was my first thing. 00:01:25.712 --> 00:01:27.043 Now the question that I'm going to answer 00:01:27.043 --> 00:01:28.606 today, and I kind of like doing 00:01:28.606 --> 00:01:30.586 one question each because then I get to 00:01:30.586 --> 00:01:32.033 really talk about it. Kind of like the 00:01:32.033 --> 00:01:34.135 olden days, when I just rambled on and on 00:01:34.135 --> 00:01:37.017 and on and on and on, you get the idea. 00:01:37.017 --> 00:01:38.425 Okay, so the first question and only 00:01:38.425 --> 00:01:41.441 question is "Hey Kati, is it normal for 00:01:41.441 --> 00:01:44.294 things such as depression, anxiety, etc. 00:01:44.294 --> 00:01:46.677 to sort of come and go, like sometimes 00:01:46.677 --> 00:01:48.495 they're so bad you really can't function 00:01:48.495 --> 00:01:49.912 at all and other times it's like they 00:01:49.912 --> 00:01:52.128 barely exist? Also, is it normal for my 00:01:52.128 --> 00:01:55.420 self harm to improve my mood so that I 00:01:55.420 --> 00:01:58.250 can't even really remember the issue? 00:01:58.250 --> 00:01:59.731 I've found that sometimes I have a week 00:01:59.731 --> 00:02:01.800 that I feel okay, but then I look back 00:02:01.800 --> 00:02:03.611 and I have self harmed every day that week 00:02:03.611 --> 00:02:05.723 and I think that's why my week was okay. 00:02:05.723 --> 00:02:06.851 Does that make sense? Thanks." 00:02:06.851 --> 00:02:08.716 And I wanna talk about this for two 00:02:08.716 --> 00:02:10.291 reasons because it touches on two 00:02:10.291 --> 00:02:12.094 different things that a lot of people 00:02:12.094 --> 00:02:12.967 struggle with. 00:02:12.967 --> 00:02:16.073 Number one being depression, anxiety for 00:02:16.073 --> 00:02:18.399 those things to come and go. 00:02:18.399 --> 00:02:19.680 And I think I may have talked about this 00:02:19.680 --> 00:02:21.063 in the past. I've talked about a lot of 00:02:21.063 --> 00:02:23.257 things you guys but it's definitely 00:02:23.257 --> 00:02:26.041 normal. That's honestly why depression, 00:02:26.041 --> 00:02:27.296 anxiety, all that stuff. 00:02:27.296 --> 00:02:29.181 Well I guess mainly depression, but all of 00:02:29.181 --> 00:02:30.438 those feelings that come along with 00:02:30.438 --> 00:02:32.321 depression which can be even like an 00:02:32.321 --> 00:02:36.650 anxious feeling is under mood disorders. 00:02:36.650 --> 00:02:38.856 And our mood can shift and our mood can 00:02:38.856 --> 00:02:41.370 change and some days we feel better than 00:02:41.370 --> 00:02:43.510 others and worse and so on. . . 00:02:43.510 --> 00:02:45.521 Because different things are going on at 00:02:45.521 --> 00:02:48.500 different times, and everyone experiences 00:02:48.500 --> 00:02:49.389 that. 00:02:49.389 --> 00:02:51.367 I even, as a person who doesn't struggle 00:02:51.367 --> 00:02:53.946 with depression, have good days and bad 00:02:53.946 --> 00:02:56.076 days. And so you have to always, 00:02:56.076 --> 00:02:58.266 I find this is always the issue is that 00:02:58.266 --> 00:03:01.220 people think that okay well this person or 00:03:01.220 --> 00:03:03.543 if you're talking to yourself, I, have a 00:03:03.543 --> 00:03:06.235 mental illness therefore I have no other 00:03:06.235 --> 00:03:08.870 normal baseline. 00:03:08.870 --> 00:03:10.660 But that's wrong, because even though you 00:03:10.660 --> 00:03:12.243 have a mental illness, let's say you 00:03:12.243 --> 00:03:13.690 struggle with depression, you're still 00:03:13.690 --> 00:03:15.555 going to have the normal person ups and 00:03:15.555 --> 00:03:16.848 downs and good days and bad days. 00:03:16.848 --> 00:03:18.757 Yours may just be amplified by the fact 00:03:18.757 --> 00:03:20.298 that you struggle with depression. 00:03:20.298 --> 00:03:22.623 And so taking that into consideration and 00:03:22.623 --> 00:03:24.757 thinking, well do other people have this 00:03:24.757 --> 00:03:26.647 and like, do they talk about it coming 00:03:26.647 --> 00:03:29.092 and going? Does my best friend have good 00:03:29.092 --> 00:03:31.361 days and bad days? Or is it normal for 00:03:31.361 --> 00:03:32.757 some people to feel really good, then 00:03:32.757 --> 00:03:34.139 feel really bad? 00:03:34.139 --> 00:03:37.177 The answer is yes. It varies day to day, 00:03:37.177 --> 00:03:38.839 moment to moment. Okay. 00:03:38.839 --> 00:03:40.672 Second part of this question and another 00:03:40.672 --> 00:03:41.901 reason I thought it was really cool to 00:03:41.901 --> 00:03:44.910 answer it "is it normal for my self harm 00:03:44.910 --> 00:03:46.661 to improve my mood, so I can barely 00:03:46.661 --> 00:03:49.763 remember the issue?" Uh, ya! Hello! It's a 00:03:49.763 --> 00:03:53.185 coping skill. I don't mean that like duh, 00:03:53.185 --> 00:03:56.438 but that's the truth. That's what we talk 00:03:56.438 --> 00:03:58.165 about all the time. 00:03:58.165 --> 00:04:00.111 I think often people forget that we use 00:04:00.111 --> 00:04:02.116 things that are unhealthy, like drugs, 00:04:02.116 --> 00:04:04.191 alcohol, self harm, eating disorders, 00:04:04.191 --> 00:04:07.671 exercise to the max like over exercise, 00:04:07.671 --> 00:04:09.563 obviously some exercise is good, but 00:04:09.563 --> 00:04:12.600 we use those things as coping skills and 00:04:12.600 --> 00:04:16.024 they're detrimental to us but they help 00:04:16.024 --> 00:04:17.471 in the moment. 00:04:17.471 --> 00:04:19.416 And sometimes they don't even help any 00:04:19.416 --> 00:04:21.139 more and they're still hanging around. 00:04:21.139 --> 00:04:23.207 And we're like why the fuck are you still 00:04:23.207 --> 00:04:25.585 here? But it's definitely there for a 00:04:25.585 --> 00:04:26.872 reason. It serves a purpose. 00:04:26.872 --> 00:04:30.319 And for you, whoever asks this question it 00:04:30.319 --> 00:04:31.962 improves your mood and makes it so you 00:04:31.962 --> 00:04:33.422 don't even remember the issue. 00:04:33.422 --> 00:04:36.433 Ta da! Coping skill is working, but you 00:04:36.433 --> 00:04:37.790 really don't like it. 00:04:37.790 --> 00:04:40.147 And that's why we have to replace our 00:04:40.147 --> 00:04:41.458 eating disorders, our self harm, 00:04:41.458 --> 00:04:43.783 our alcoholism, whatever it is, why it's 00:04:43.783 --> 00:04:46.040 so important to replace it with a 00:04:46.040 --> 00:04:46.980 healthy one. 00:04:46.980 --> 00:04:48.635 And yes it may take like ten healthy ones 00:04:48.635 --> 00:04:51.067 to even barely get to the point where 00:04:51.067 --> 00:04:53.438 you're like okay I can tolerate it. 00:04:53.438 --> 00:04:55.415 I can tolerate the feelings, the emotions 00:04:55.415 --> 00:04:58.618 the issue where it only takes cutting once 00:04:58.618 --> 00:05:01.818 I know it doesn't always equate, like one 00:05:01.818 --> 00:05:04.629 to one, but know that it's worth the fight 00:05:04.629 --> 00:05:06.955 Do you want to be self harming your whole 00:05:06.955 --> 00:05:07.929 life? Trying to hide your scars, 00:05:07.929 --> 00:05:09.495 trying to hide it from people. 00:05:09.495 --> 00:05:11.783 It ends up not really being a good thing 00:05:11.783 --> 00:05:13.513 for us. And so, of course it can help in 00:05:13.513 --> 00:05:15.032 the moment, but let's think long term. 00:05:15.032 --> 00:05:16.901 Let's try to replace it with other 00:05:16.901 --> 00:05:18.554 healthy coping skills, 00:05:18.554 --> 00:05:20.786 and if you haven't checked it out on my 00:05:20.786 --> 00:05:21.911 website katimorton.com I have a 00:05:21.911 --> 00:05:23.544 free self harm workbook. 00:05:23.544 --> 00:05:25.049 And if any of you have had trouble 00:05:25.049 --> 00:05:26.303 downloading it, I know a lot of times it 00:05:26.303 --> 00:05:28.409 gets in into junk folders or doesn't come 00:05:28.409 --> 00:05:30.556 through. I'm not sure why some of you 00:05:30.556 --> 00:05:31.759 have trouble and others don't. 00:05:31.759 --> 00:05:33.612 But you can always let me know in the 00:05:33.612 --> 00:05:35.656 comments, and I will correct it on my 00:05:35.656 --> 00:05:38.103 side and shoot it back out to you. 00:05:38.103 --> 00:05:39.481 Okay. I love you all. 00:05:39.481 --> 00:05:41.833 I will see you on Saturday with 00:05:41.833 --> 00:05:42.867 a journal topic. 00:05:42.867 --> 00:05:44.211 And thanks for everybody sending those to 00:05:44.211 --> 00:05:46.534 me. And then I'm on my way, well I'll see 00:05:46.534 --> 00:05:48.602 you Monday, but then I'm heading up north 00:05:48.602 --> 00:05:49.866 to the northwest. 00:05:49.866 --> 00:05:51.494 So if you're going to be at VloggerFair, 00:05:51.494 --> 00:05:52.625 I can't wait to meet you. 99:59:59.999 --> 99:59:59.999 Talk to you soon. Bye!
