for something slightly different.
I am a tea lover,
I drink tea at breakfast,
in the afternoon,
and herbal tea before I got to bed.
And even if I already have
my favourite blends
and my go-to teas
I wanted to try to make
a few blends of my own
each of them with a different purpose.
So I hope you'll enjoy this tea tasting session.
Here I've gathered about 20-25
different plants, herbs, dry fruits,
flowers and spices,
all of them perfectly edible of course.
I'm going to make 3 different herbal teas.
And even if I don't know exactly
what I'm going to use yet,
I thought I would make
a kind of of medicinal tea first.
Nothing better than a sleeping blend.
Then I will try floral tea and finally
something fruity and spicy.
I will take notes every time
just to see what I could improve
or to keep track of my recipes
if they are actually worth it.
So let me show you a few of the plants
and herbs I have here.
So this is lemon balm.
A very relaxing plant,
also known to help with melancholy
and depression.
This is one of my favourites.
Here we have lemon,
dry of course.
Orange here.
These are raspberry leaves,
very helpful for women with period cramps.
And it's full of vitamins as well.
Here we have blueberries.
This is eucalyptus.
Very fragrant.
What else...
Cocoa beans.
I love to eat them just like this,
it's not for everyone but
it's full of benefits
and I love cocoa.
This is chamomile.
One of my favourites.
Verbena,
very relaxing as well.
These are violets.
Cinnamon.
I also have dry apple,
calendula.
And on the other side...
Lavender.
Sage.
Sage is good everything.
Goji berries.
Elderflowers, vanilla and
yes,
rosebuds.
And of course I'm going to need
hot water, cups, teapots,
and I will probably fill a few tea bags as well.
Here I have paper tea bags.
I love this sound.
It always reminds me of Gentle Whispering
and her tea box.
I have a few cotton bags as well.
So let's start with the first blend.
So as I said I want something
that wil help me sleep.
And for sleeping I have about
6 or 7 plants here that would great.
And since chamomile is one of my favourites
I will definitely start with this one as the base.
Here we go.
One spoon of chamomile.
And then...
I'm going to use lemon balm.
Yes, same quantity.
Then...
Of course, lavender.
One of the most relaxing plants.
But I'm going to grind this one.
I'm going to take my trusty mortar.
And put about half of a teaspoon.
And here we go.
Alright.
It smells so good.
Maybe it's a bit too much.
So just a pinch of it.
Alright.
So here we have 3 different ingredients...
What else could I add?
Even if it's not specifically relaxing,
I'd like to try elderflowers.
This one smells good as well.
So just a bit.
Alright.
Maybe I could also add verbena,
but I already have lemon balm
which has this lemon flavour
so it might be too much.
Alright, time to brew this blend.
I'm going to use this glass cup.
And put a pinch of the herbs in the filter.
A bit more...
Alright.
Here we go.
And now let's wait about 5 minutes.
I'm going to put the lid back
so it will keep all the flavours.
Alright, let's taste it.
This is a very light color.
It smells good.
The strongest flavour is clearly
the chamomile.
This is quite good,
not bad for a first one.
Maybe I could have brewed it
a little bit longer.
It's not very strong.
Or maybe I should have put
more of the blend in the filter.
It's very light, but quite good.
So I'm going to take some notes
and write suggestions about
how I could improve this.
I'm going to use the small one.
So...
Sleeping blend...
Chamomile...
Lemon balm...
Elderflowers and lavender.
I think there is too much lavender as well.
So, next time I will try with
more chamomile, less lavender.
And...
Yes, I will add lime tree leaves as well.
Alright.
Next, something floral.
Spring is upon us and
I want to greet it with a scented tea.
And the first ingredient coming to my mind
is rose.
So I'm going to use this
as a very classic base.
This is heaven.
So,
let's use one.
And next...
Jasmine flowers of course.
Maybe...
Yes, it should be fine.
Rose and jasmine...
sound like a good base.
Lavender could be great as well
but I want to try something else.
Maybe violets.
A bit more...
This is pretty.
I'm just going to add one calendula flower.
Just because of the color.
Let's add a bit of sunshine
in this blend.
Alright, I don't know if
it's going to be good.
But at least,
it's pretty.
Alright,
same, time to brew this blend.
And this time I'll put this in a tea bag.
I'm going to use...
a reusable cotton bag.
Good.
Let's take a teapot.
And I don't need this.
Here we go.
It already smells so good.
Let's wait about 5 to 10 minutes again.
Alright, time for tasting.
Again, the color seems very light
but here it's not surprising.
It's even lighter.
We can definitely smell the rose.
Let's see.
It's very good.
Jasmine brings some kind of earthy taste
I don't know if it makes sense but
it's very well balanced,
I will definitely make this one again.
Maybe I could add a second rosebud.
Yes.
So, floral tea...
So I put one rosebud,
and then,
jasmine flowers.
I can smell the violets but it's very
very light.
But there is enough.
So maybe just one more rosebud.
For one cup, 2 rosebuds.
And next time, I will add a bit of honey.
It will be perfect.
Alright.
Final blend.
And I want a fruity, and maybe slightly spicy blend
for any moment of the day
including breakfast.
Starting with...
Orange.
That's enough, it may be a bit strong.
And then...
Let's try apple.
Just one slice.
I'm going to try cinnamon.
I'm going to grind it.
Alright.
Just a little bit...
It makes a lovely sound,
like dry leaves.
Alright.
So 3 ingredients...
I'd like to try... blueberries.
This will probably give a strong color
to the tea.
And finally,
I could try cocoa,
or maybe Goji berries,
or ginger,
but I'm going to choose vanilla.
Just a few bits.
3, 4, and 5.
And I think it's enough.
We don't to put everything we like
in one blend.
It would be too much
and probably disappointing.
And for this one I'm going to use
a glass infuser.
Just like this.
Here we go.
Alright, perfect.
All I can smell for now is
cinnamon.
it's alright.
Hot water and...
Directly in the infuser.
This time I'm going to wait 10 minutes.
Since this infuser has no lid
I hope it won't get too cold.
Maybe I can add a bit of water.
Alright.
Let's wait.
It's been 10 minutes.
It doesn't seem too cold.
This is a very light color again,
but this is a nice golden color.
And the main smell is apple here.
I thought the bluberries would give
some kind of purple color
but it doesn't really matter.
Let's see.
It's really good.
Blueberries are not present at all but
I can taste vanilla and cinnamon of course.
It makes me think of Christmas teas,
very very good.
And it's already sweet so it wouldn't require
any honey or sugar in my opinion.
Next time I might add more of orange,
there is enough apple clearly but
yes, orange.
And I love cinnamon.
Alright it might be the best of the 3.
So, orange, vanilla...
I think I can skip the blueberries.
And maybe try cocoa next time.
No blueberry.
And,
adding cocoa.
And this could definitely make
the perfect Christmas blend.
Alright, so now I'm going to make
more of this last blend
and fill a few tea bags
so I can enjoy it for the days to come.
