This story of the Udego people 
is situated in a time
when people believed in nature-spirits:

they looked at a stone, and saw a stone man-spirit,
they looked at driftwood in a swamp
and saw a taiga man-spirit ....

There once lived two Udego brothers
- Indiga and Solomdiga
