Safecity is a crowd map
for sexual violence in public spaces

and this is collected 
as location based trends

visualised on a map, as hotspots

As you know, sexual violence 
is a global pandemic

we have received 
a lot of international recognition

for our work in crowdsourcing data 
and technology to address it

As a result, we've been invited 
to speak across the world

and share our work with several audiences

I speak in English, but my audiences 
may not know English

as their primary language

Therefore, translation is critical 
because it helps share my message

in the true context and meaning
that I intend it to be

For example, I'm in Argentina right now

and I've had several speaking assignments

with over five hundred people 
at each of these places

Without the help of translators,
these people

would not have understood 
a word of what I said

yet, they have appreciated my work 
and they've got the context and meaning

of what we are doing

So in this International Translator's Day

I would like to celebrate 
translators and translations

And thank you very much 
because language is so critical

we have to find the bridges 
to share our experiences with each other
