Welcome back to make thrift buy, a show where you guys send me cool clothes and accessories from the internet and I try my best to recreate them. Today's suggestion was sent in by Vatoyyo, who sent me a link to this banana backpack. Now, I found this same item all over different store envy shops, so it does seem to be a cheap, mass-produced design and it's also something you could totally make for yourself. So I've been keeping an eye out for plain backpacks, at market stalls and thrift stores and I found this one the other day. I thought it looked pretty similar so now I'm going to begin. The first thing I did was to work out a good banana design on a piece of paper before trying it out on the bag itself. Next I mixed up some yellow and white acrylic paint to make a good banana colour and added some fabric medium to help the design stay permanent on the fabric. This isn't really needed if you're not going to be washing your backpack much but seeing as I had some lying around, I thought 'why not?' Then I laid the backpack flat and put a plastic bag inside to stop the paint from transferring through to the opposite side. Then I started painting banana shapes on to my bag. The first thing I did was to cover up this quite prominent stain with this strategically placed banana. Then I continued painting on bananas in a random fashion. Now, you can wait for your paint to dry naturally or you can get impatient like me and speed up the process with a hairdryer. Once I had covered my backpack with bananas , I ironed over them to set them into the fabric. Then, using a permanent black marker, I drew a couple of simple lines over the top of the paint to finish off the design and I repeated this for all of the bananas. Way too easy to make and I've given a new life to this old, stained backpack. If you have any suggestions for things for me to try out then leave a comment below. Thank you all so much for watching and I will see you guys in the next episode.
