9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 MATHEW RITCHIE: Modern art is a gift. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Take it or leave it, you know. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 It's like nobody's forcing it down your [br]throat. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 All anyone is trying to do is try out some[br]new ideas, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 something different, something, you know.. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 just ringing the changes a little while. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 And I think there's something [br]enormously ambitious 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 about that idea, that we're all trying [br]to advance 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 or at least question what's going on, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 and I just think that's great. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Drawing is very, very central to the way [br]that I work 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 because it can be blown up, taken apart, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 given to another person to execute, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 put into a computer, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 redrawn as if the computer had thought of [br]your drawing 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 in the first place, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 shrunk back down to a tiny sketch, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 turned into a digital game. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 You can just keep on pushing it. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 It's like this infinite machine, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 which is very hard to do with almost [br]anything else. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 Like even with a painting-- 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 a painting becomes a very static, fixed [br]thing, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 but a drawing, you can make it three-[br]dimensional, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 you can make it flat, you can turn it into[br]a sphere. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 You can just keep pushing it and pushing [br]it and pushing it, 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 because all it is, is information. 9:59:59.000,9:59:59.000 It's just a bunch of marks.
