from the artist Nicki Minaj.

I don't know much about

- You know what it is?
- Yeah.
- Dan is obsessed with Nicki Minaj.

Nicki Minaj on Instagram?

- I need to get onto
this trend immediately.
- Yeah, I think I need to see Rob's
Nicki Minaj challenge for sure.
- Just start flipping
my hair around and doing some spins.
- (FBE) So this is something
that Nicki Minaj did not appear
to be planning to become a challenge.
- Welcome to the internet, Nicki.
- The word "challenge" has now
turned into a meme in itself,
where it's like not
just even celebrities' names.
I feel like you can put the word
"challenge" after anything.
- (FBE) So what do you think
about how social media
is something that,
you know, anything you post
can take on a life of its own?
- I think it's cool.
I mean, it's fun.
It adds fun to the internet.
- You can't stop it really.
- (chuckles)
- It's a machine.
- It's really funny
how memes start as well.
It's always the most random
thing you don't expect,
and it's a prime example of how
something just catches on.
- With the age of social media,
celebrities are sharing more of their--
I wouldn't say unedited,
but more of their personas.
So, you know, there's more things to meme.
- It's kind of interesting
that she did that
and probably didn't realize
it would take off that way,
and it just did.
So I think that's a pretty cool
thing about social media.
But at the same time, like I say,
it could also be horrendously bad.
- It's a little scary
honestly and exciting.
I think people are always chasing that,
"What can I do on the internet
that will become a trend?"
- Makes me never want to post anything
on social media ever again.
- (chuckles)
- The free flow of idea
is what makes YouTube great
and makes YouTube exciting.
- I think that one might've been her
just doing something funny.
But a lot of artists have coined the whole
"I'll make a meme and people will do it."
- Ooh. Skeptical Dan.
- But that video was funny,
and I love and support Nicki.
- (FBE) And obviously,
challenges and trend culture
have been a big part of YouTube
and social media for a while.
As an online personality,
how do you decide
which trends do to yourself
versus which ones to just say,
"Nope, not gonna get in on this one"?
- So-- (chuckles) oh God.
So I suppose my way of engaging
with challenges and trends is
I try to think, "Well, what's
the weirdest spin on it possible?"
- If something's past its prime
and then you do it,
I think the people get annoyed with you.
And I quite like that response.
Like with dabbing.
- Yeah.
- If you dab, people tell you off.
- If I was at the right place,
like if I was at an airport
about to get on a plane
and that just happened,
I would definitely do it.
But I don't think I'd make
an excuse just to make one
if it wasn't gonna be good.
- It's like how well that
particular challenge kind of
subsides with my values and morals.
For example, this one.
I think it's completely hilarious
and entertaining to watch.
But it's not really my thing.
- It depends on whether or not
it just falls in your purview.
For example, last year, there were
so many fun makeup challenges
that were like, "How I did
my makeup in high school."
So you have to survey
the scene and be like,
"Oh, would this apply
to my channel?" Maybe, yes.
- It's our internet duty.
- Yeah, I think Rob should definitely try
the Nicki Minaj Challenge.
- Uh, get me a phone.
Get me a--
- A private jet?
- And--
(both chuckle)
And we'll make it happen.
- (FBE) And finally, it's time to do
the Nicki Minaj Challenge.
- Let's do it. I love it.
