KERMIT: Hello.
This is Kermit the
Frog, and I am here
today to offer to you the
first in a series of lectures
about the different ways
that people can feel.
Now today I am going to talk
to you about being happy.
And right over here, this is
a picture of a happy face.
Now you can tell that
because the face is smiling,
and you know that someone
who looks this way
feels very, very good.
You feel happy when nice
things happen to you.
And as a matter of fact,
I'm very happy right now
because I am here
talking to you and that
is a very nice thing to do.
Now let's talk about
some of the things that
might make you feel happy.
COOKIE MONSTER: Nom!
KERMIT: That is not
the kind of thing
that makes you feel happy.
Anyway--
COOKIE MONSTER: Yum!
KERMIT: That's the kind of
thing that makes you feel mad!
COOKIE MONSTER: Nom!
KERMIT: I think I better
talk about being mad.
Now I get mad when people
do things that I don't like.
Like when a monster
eats something
he's not supposed to eat.
Now you can tell I'm mad
by the kind of things
that I say to the monster.
Like this.
[YELLING] You big, dumb--
COOKIE MONSTER: Oh!
KERMIT: Rotten monster!
You make me so mad
I don't believe it!
You are, without a doubt,
one of the nastiest monsters
I've ever seen!
And I'm so mad I'm gonna tell
all my friends how rotten you
are!
COOKIE MONSTER: Oh!
KERMIT: And nobody's gonna
ever play with you anymore!
Nobody's gonna even
talk to you anymore!
That's how mad I am!
COOKIE MONSTER: Oh Froggy!
KERMIT: And furthermore, I'm
gonna tell your mother on you!
COOKIE MONSTER:
Oh, not my mommy!
KERMIT: Your mother!
COOKIE MONSTER: Oh!
KERMIT: And your mother's
not gonna let you come here
anymore!
COOKIE MONSTER: Froggy!
Please Froggy, not my mommy!
KERMIT: I'm gonna
tell your mommy.
COOKIE MONSTER:
Oh, I'd be so sad.
KERMIT: You're gonna be sad?
COOKIE MONSTER: So sad
if you tell my mommy!
So sad!
KERMIT: You'll
really be sad, huh?
COOKIE MONSTER: Oh, so sad!
KERMIT: Wow.
COOKIE MONSTER: Oh! [SOBS]
KERMIT: Look at that!
COOKIE MONSTER: Oh so sad!
KERMIT: Yes.
COOKIE MONSTER: Oh!
KERMIT: Do you know what?
COOKIE MONSTER: Oh!
KERMIT: Now we can
talk about being sad.
COOKIE MONSTER: So sad.
So sad.
KERMIT: Hey listen, if you
want to see what sad is,
look at the monster.
COOKIE MONSTER: [SOBBING]
KERMIT: Yes!
See the monster?
He's crying because he's so sad.
COOKIE MONSTER: So sad!
Oh, I am, I am!
KERMIT: You see?
Yes, indeed.
And he's sad because
he feels bad.
COOKIE MONSTER: I feel bad!
KERMIT: Right.
COOKIE MONSTER: And sad!
KERMIT: Hey, listen you.
Listen you.
COOKIE MONSTER: What?
KERMIT: Don't feel so bad.
COOKIE MONSTER: Why?
KERMIT: Don't feel so bad,
because I forgive you.
COOKIE MONSTER: You do?
KERMIT: I certainly do.
Because you just now helped
me show everyone what sad is.
Hey now, hand me that
thing down there.
COOKIE MONSTER:
Oh, this over here?
KERMIT: Yes.
Hand me that.
Now look at that.
See, that's a sad face.
COOKIE MONSTER: Yeah.
KERMIT: Now I had
this sad face drawn
so I could tell everybody
about feeling sad.
But you see, now
they just now saw you
and you just saved
me the trouble
of showing them the sad face.
COOKIE MONSTER: I help you.
KERMIT: Yes!
So now I don't even need it.
And now I am happy again.
COOKIE MONSTER: You
don't need sad face?
KERMIT: No, I don't need it.
COOKIE MONSTER: You sure?
KERMIT: Sure I'm sure.
Because you just now helped me--
COOKIE MONSTER: Nom!
KERMIT: I think I am going to
have to talk about being mad
again.
[YELLING] Listen, you dumb,
stupid, rotten monster!
How dare you--
ERNIE: I don't know.
I just feel terrible, Bert.
I don't know.
It's--
BERT: Well, why do
you feel terrible?
ERNIE: Well because there's
nothing special about me, Bert.
It's just that I'm plain
ordinary Ernie or something.
I don't know.
It's just nothing special.
BERT: Hey Ernie.
Hey, come on.
Turn around.
Ernie, look at me.
