[Applause.] [Speaking Welsh.] You should see the expressions on your faces. You haven't understood a word I've said. But don't worry about it. Very few people do. I was speaking my language: Welsh, because I was introducing a Welsh girl. A girl who went to number one all over the world, with her first record. What I said was, "Here is a lovely girl: a young singer from the land of song, and her name is Mary Hopkin." [Applause] [Lively music] [Bittersweet string music] Once upon a time, there was a tavern, where we used to raise a glass or two. Remember how we laughed away the hours. Think of all the great things we would do. Those were the days, my friend. We thought they'd never end. We'd sing and dance forever and a day. We'd live the life we choose, we'd fight and never lose, for we were young, and sure to have our way. Da da da di di di da da da di di di, da da da da, da da da da da da. [Sad string music] Just tonight, I stood before the tavern. Nothing seemed the way it used to be. In the glass, I saw a strange reflection. Was that lonely woman really me? Those were the days, my friend. [Lively music] We thought they'd never end. We'd sing and dance forever and a day. We'd live the life we choose, we'd fight and never lose. Those were the days, oh, yes, those were the days. Da da da di di di, da da da di di di. Da da da da, da da da da da da. Da da da di di di, da da da di di di. Da da da da, da da da, da da da. [Music swells.] [Bittersweet strings.] Through the door, there came familiar laughter. I saw your face, and heard you call my name. Oh, my friend, we're older, but no wiser. For, in our hearts, the dreams are still the same. [Tinkling piano] Those were the days, my friend. [Lively music] We thought they'd never end. We'd sing and dance forever and a day. We'd live the life we choose, we'd fight and never lose. Those were the days, oh yes, those were the days. Da, da da, di di di, da da da di di di. Da da da da, da da da, da da da. Da da da di di di, da da da di di di, da da da da, da da da, da da daaaaa. Daaaaahhhh.... Da, da, dahhhh! [Music crescendo.] [Applause.] Mary, that was lovely. Thank you, Tom. [Speaking Welsh.] No, can you slow down a little bit? It's a little too fast for me. Oh. Uh, well I was just going to say: It's been a great pleasure, being on your show, and thank you for inviting me. Thank you very much. [Kiss] Thank you. Ladies and gentlemen: Mary Hopkin. [Applause.]
