Icha: My concern for people with disabilities

Hello, my name is Icha

I work at the YAKKUM (Yayasan Kristen untuk Kesehatan Umum/Christian Foundation for Public Health) Rehabilitation Center

in Yogyakarta

YAKKUM Rehabilitation Center is

A social institution

Who is engaged in disability

In essence, we hold

Some activities agenda

And also trainings

So that children with disabilities can be independent

in economically

and in doing daily living activities

For me,

at the YAKKUM Rehabilitation Center

focus on education of children with disabilities

We currently accommodate children

with cerebral palsy

Many of which are still rejected in SLBs/Sekolah Luar Biasa (School for disabilities people)

for various reasons, so

Besides we provide education

For children with cerebral palsy

We are also fighting for it

Establishment of inclusive schools

In Yogyakarta

Because remembering the Law about

This inclusive education is very clear

But in reality

The implementation of inclusive education is still

very less

Where there are still many schools

Who rejects this child with disability

for various reasons

then, besides the teachers

in the inclusive school

also still very dependent

with special education teachers

So, our focus is

How to set up

teachers in public schools

to no longer depend on

special educators

and can provide services

That is adequate for ABK who attend there

My hope in the future

So that the community cares more

against children with disabilities

That children with disabilities

Can also be empowered

like children in general

They only need to be given a chance

So that they can develop

their potentials

then also for the government

I hope for the future

the government does not only produce laws

about inclusive education

but it also increases the capacity of teachers

How can they run

inclusion education itself
