Everyone loves Youtube
-
An endless library of great videos
you can watch for free
-
But we don't all love
Youtube's recommendations
-
And seventy percent of viewing time
on the platform, is driven by
-
videos they suggest. Sometimes the videos
Youtube recommends are weird or off-topic.
-
But sometimes, they are downright harmful.
Mozilla has heard from people
-
who were recommended anti-LGBT content,
videos that encourage eating disorders,
-
fake claims about fraudelent elections,
and much more. Youtube says
-
it has improved its algorithm,
but Mozilla's latest research finds
-
it still suggests videos that are racist,
misogynistic, conspiratorial,
-
or misinformation. Sometimes
it even suggests videos that breach
-
Youtube's very own content guidelines,
videos that Youtube later removed
-
for being harmful, dangerous,
or deceptive.
-
It's got to stop.
-
It's up to us to get Youtube to change.
