If I haven't been participating in link schemes, do I need to worry about my links?

  • 0:00 - 0:04
Today's question comes from Ryan, in Michigan.
  • 0:04 - 0:08
Ryan asks: "If I haven't bought links, participated in any linkwheels or schemes,
  • 0:08 - 0:12
or spammed links, should I spend time analyzing my links
  • 0:12 - 0:15
and trying to remove the ones I didn't create that look spammy?
  • 0:15 - 0:18
Great question! My simple answer is no.
  • 0:18 - 0:20
If you haven't been going way out there,
  • 0:20 - 0:22
playing toward the grey head, black head edge,
  • 0:22 - 0:26
if haven't been pushing the envelope, participating in ... all that sort of stuff
  • 0:26 - 0:29
and in general you know you get a mixe of links from all over the web
  • 0:29 - 0:32
some of them are gonna be higher quality, you know Chicago Tribune
  • 0:32 - 0:34
    Washintong Post, whatever
  • 0:34 - 0:35
and some of them are going to be lower quality
  • 0:35 - 0:40
includding some random people who happen to scrape other people who are linked to you
  • 0:40 - 0:44
so if you havent been pushing the envalope, it is not the kind of thing where I would worry about
  • 0:44 - 0:49
looking at your link profile, carefully pruning and trying to figure out each individual link
  • 0:49 - 0:50
    that you think should count
  • 0:50 - 0:54
Now, if for example you have got an unnatural links warning
  • 0:54 - 0:56
because maybe you were doing some paid links or
  • 0:56 - 0:59
you paid someone to build links on your behalf
  • 0:59 - 1:02
maybe they were pushing the envelope and you didn't realize it
  • 1:02 - 1:05
then you can download links sorted by date
  • 1:05 - 1:06
hopefully will give you some examples
  • 1:06 - 1:09
of the sorts of links to look at.then it might make sense to look into that
  • 1:09 - 1:13
but otherwise your average moment pop, in a normal bussiness
  • 1:13 - 1:18
someone who's not just trying to place number one for poker or online casinos
  • 1:18 - 1:21
is not the sort of situation where you need to worry about
  • 1:21 - 1:24
looking at your individual link profile, in my opinion.
