-We're in Wayne County, Mississippi. We're
the only long term care facility in town
and the county, actually. Pine View Health
Care Center employs an average of 110
associates. Our staff is important to us
in maintaining good staff is very
important to us.
-I'm 71 years old. I've been in nursing
over 40. I've worked here at Pine View
about 10 years.
-We call our employees associates, not
employees. That's important. An employee
is somebody who works for you. An
associate is someone who works with you.
-We have an open door policy so they feel
free to come in and talk with us about
what's going on throughout their day.
-Where we're able to foster that feeling
of being an associate by things such as
team talk, where we gather information on
a daily basis that the staff out there
needs to know. They in turn have an
opportunity to give back information.
-Teamwork here is great. I can help you.
You can help me, and we can get more
accomplished working together.
-We all work together to get what we need
to get done.
-I would put them up against anybody, the
team at Pine View. Quality is a major focus
at Pine View Health Care Center.
-We realize we can't be perfect, but we
strive to be the best. And so that keeps
me motivated to do the very best job that
I can do.
-We are focused on the national quality
initiatives, as well as stuff that we
self-identify in house.
-When we started focusing on the
anti-psychotics in May of last year we
were around 21%. Today we're at 15.6%, and
hopefully to make another reduction to at
least 12% by the end of the year.
Re-hospitalization, we were able to go
from 12.5% in June to 0% in July of this
year by doing a lot of teaching and
training. Basically getting that
information out to the physicians so
they can make an informative decision on
how to treat, possibly in house versus
sending them out to the hospital.
-It's just improving the quality of life
of residents.
-Long-term care's not for everyone, and I
feel like our staff here walks through
these doors everyday, not because they
have to, but because they want to.
-If they have a resident that has needs,
that doesn't have family, our staff is
their family.
-When I went to nursing school my
instructor said to us, 'Now, when you go
in to attend to a resident you look at
that patient as if it's your mother, your
father, your sister, your brother.
-At the end of your day, whenever you
think you've had the worst work day that
you could ever have, and your walking out
that door and that resident holds out
their arms and goes to give you a hug and
says, 'See you tomorrow. Be careful going
home.' Then you think, 'That's why I'm
here. That's why we're here.'
-So that same work ethic that we apply
to our residents, we apply to our
associates. When one hurts, we all hurt.
When one celebrates, we all celebrate.
