New year, new privacy laws.

Starting January 1st,

the California Consumer Privacy Act

otherwise known as the CCPA
goes into effect.

By the way,

the law doesn't only affect companies
based in California.

What exactly does that mean for you?

First, if you're a Californian, you now have
the right to see information

companies have saved from you.

From your buying habits, images,
and even where you've been.

You can ask for it all to be deleted

or you can choose to download it.

Second,

you can opt out
of having your information sold.

That means businesses
that want to target you

can no longer buy your information

from companies that sell data

Third,

Teens between the ages of 13 and 15

will have to opt IN
for any sale of their data.

Companies are affected if they:

serve California residents AND

make more than $25 million
in annual revenue OR

make most of their profit from
selling personal information.

Congress is taking notice,

so even if you're not in California

privacy laws could be
protecting your information

sooner than you think
