The food-waste dilemma | Daniel Tay | TEDxNTU

Title:
The food-waste dilemma | Daniel Tay | TEDxNTU
Description:

Food waste is a global problem. In 2017, Singapore discarded 810,000 tonnes of food. Perfectly edible but abnormally sized or shaped foodstuffs are often thrown away by vendors in order to bypass the inconvenience of inefficient packaging and customer rejection. These food resources can be collected, recycled, and redistributed among the needy, solving two problems with one action.

Singaporean dumpster diver Daniel Tay was featured by The Straits Times, Channel News Asia, and more. He started SG Food Rescue with co-founder Judee Tan, leading a movement in combatting food waste in Singapore. The organisation conducts food rescue missions where vegetable and fruit suppliers are approached and asked to give away their unsellable produce. SG Food Rescue then distributes the produce to the needy.
